Proto:Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!/Crash Team Racing Demo
This is a sub-page of Proto:Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!.
| This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion. Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article? |

This demo is bundled with Crash Team Racing and can be accessed from its main menu by holding R1+L1 and pressing Down, Circle, Triangle and Right (on NTSC-U/PAL). On this demo you can only access the levels "Magma Cone" and "Colossus". On the Pause menu you can't access the "Guidebook" and the "Save Game" function. Oddly, on the Options menu shows that the screen is centered at Horizontal -16 and Vertical -16, where it should be zeroed. After you finish a level you are taken back to the level select menu.

Differences from Early Demo
Here the "Orbs" term is used as in the final, even though none of the characters mentions this word, aside from Hunter in Magma Cone.
Colossus Level
Zoe's voice pitch
Zoe's voice clips where she reminds the player of Hunter's advice regarding Gliding uses a more standard voice tone/pitch as opposed to the one inconsistently used in the final game.
Magma Cone
Hunter Dialogue
On the crystal minigame with Hunter, if you can't beat him on collecting said number of crystals, when you get back to talk to him he'll say "The first to collect 10 crystals wins", even when the objective is 15. Also you can't do this minigame again once you completed it, unless you exit the level and load it again.
Regional Differences
Three variants of the demo exist based on the region of the CTR disc that is used to access the demo - an NTSC-U version, a PAL version and an NTSC-J version.
Differences between NTSC-U/PAL and NTSC-J versions
Unlike the NTSC-U/PAL versions where the demo is accessed with a cheat code in the main menu, the demo is accessed by holding Left and Circle on the screen with the PlayStation logo.
Being a demo of the Japanese version of Spyro 2, the demo is substantially different from the other versions. One particularly noticeable change is that Magma Cone has been replaced with Sunny Beach in this demo.
Most of the changes that first appeared in the retail Japanese version of Spyro 2 are present in the demo.
Differences between the NTSC-J demo and the retail Japanese version
The game uses a different logo as the game was simply known as "Spyro The Dragon 2" at this point during localisation (the game wouldn't be released in Japan for another 3 months).
The double jump exploit which was fixed in the retail version can still be performed.
