On May 6, 2011 (11 days before the final release), a pre-alpha version of Terraria leaked.

Differences

Unlike subsequent versions, only the simplest elements were implemented in the pre-release version:

  • There was no parallax background - only the sky.
  • The lighting was rough.
  • The only enemies were slimes - blue, green and red.
  • The character's standard clothing was listed as armor and could be taken off.
  • Upon startup, the game starts immediately.
  • There is no game menu.
  • There are no background blocks.
  • Fall damage is absent.
  • When hit, there is no indication of damage being done.
  • When the character dies, the death message reads: "Some n00b was slain".
  • The character is generated automatically from two simple templates.
  • Items are dropped from the player, like in Mediumcore mode. Items in the belt remain at death.
  • This uses an older world generation method, very different from the release version. It also lacks the generation of chests, biomes (except for forest), mines, dungeons, and other objects.
  • There are no debuffs or buffs, and healing is possible only by eating mushrooms.
  • Enemies do not despawn when offscreen, which increases slowdown.
  • The Work Bench and Furnace are not used for crafting, so items normally made using them (Doors, Ingots, Weaponry, etc.) can be crafted in your inventory.
  • Earlier versions of textures, animations, doors, and armor are used.
  • Music is absent from this build.
