So very stubbly.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?
Hmmm...
To do:
A lot to cover.
  • Some limited developer instructions (complete with very out of place profanity),
  • An unused guidebook logo for Dragon Shores.
  • Dialogue and guidebook data corresponding to an unused orb mission in Shady Oasis (a harder variant of the "save the hippo's siblings" orb with 15 instead of 8)
  • There's an early trailer of the game that contains A LOT of content which was changed or removed in development
  • There's also a demo of the game that differs slightly from the final game
  • Also the demo of the game in Crash Team Racing
  • Thoughts about the original level design which detailed the factions and the worlds split into two (Breeze Harbor / Zephyr)?
  • The possibility of a fourth homeworld (Autumn Plains is the only homeworld in the trilogy to have 2 speedways and the worlds go by seasons)?

Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! is the second Spyro game where Spyro is tricked into saving the world of Avalar from, you guessed it, Ripto's Rage.

Developer Message

The following text can be found in the game's files:

Now is the winter of our discontent...
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...
Call me Ishmael...
Stately, plump Buck Mulligan...
Call me Jonah. My parents did...
Gaily bedight a gallant knight...
Beware the ides of March...
Tyger tyger burning bright...
...
I always get the Shemp...

This also appears in the first game and the third game. "I always get the Shemp..." was a joke among the developers, in that whenever they messed up, they "got the Shemp". Dr. Shemp is also the name of a boss in the first game.

Unused Dialogue

There are parts of the game where the dialogue didn't get a chance to be used.

Dialogue for Power-Ups That Aren't Activated

There are a couple of places in the game where a power-up for a minigame that is found later in the level has been set to a low enemies-defeated counter so that it will be activated once Spyro reaches that point. Getting to these points without defeating any enemies is very difficult, if not impossible during normal game play. Through the use of cheats, the player can get to these points without defeating any enemies. Aside from the player not getting to see the inactive power-ups, there are NPCs nearby that have dialogue for the inactive power-up that don't get to be heard/read. These two such instances are in the Metropolis and Magma Cone levels. The number of enemies they need to activate the power-up are 1 and 2 respectively.

It's a first for Avalar! A combination powerup!

Thank goodness you're here to test it out...

these invading sheep in their spaceships must be

stopped!

Inventor Droid

I've successfully developed a super powerup here

Spyro... knock off just a few more enemies and

you can be the first ever to use it!

Chedda the Faun

Hey Spyro! You're just in time for the party.

Well, you would be if those nasty Lava

Monsters hadn't stolen our hats. It just won't

be the same without party hats.

Chedda the Faun

Here we are on the night of the big party, and

we don't have anything to celebrate with. If

you could fly, maybe you could do something

about it.

A clip of the above:

Hockey Player Room

In Colossus, there is a hockey mini-game that Spyro can play to get two orbs. When a match starts, goalie(s) and/or the opponent will come out of a room that Spyro can't normally access. However, through the use of glitches, the room can be accessed. It is a simple room that contains the models for the goalies and opponent, as expected, with full collision and everything.

Unused Music

This track is unused, but is present in the game's files. The clipping is part of a bad master, not a bad recording or rip.

Ripto Area early entrance

it seems the cutscene model was copied before the final entrance was chosen.

Demo

A demo of Spyro 2 that contains the levels Sunny Beach and Skelos Badlands exists which contains some differences from the final game. Most notably, Sparx still has his character model from Spyro the Dragon, and Spyro still has the roll ability from the first game. The sound effect when Spyro obtains an orb is also different.
