Super Mario Sunshine/Oddities and Oversights
This is a sub-page of Super Mario Sunshine.
| This article is a work in progress. ...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes. |
Delfino Plaza
Bell Tower Nozzle Box
Inside the bell tower is a Rocket Nozzle Box. For some reason, FLUDD does not tell you that it is a hologram when you touch it in its hologram form.
Misplaced Yellow Toad
A yellow Toad can be seen out of bounds near the Blue Coin Hut after you've unlocked Pinna Park. This is most likely a simple misplacement issue from the developers forgetting to place him completely above the ground.
Bianco Hills
Misplaced Tree
A hidden tree in episode 7 and 8 was misplaced out-of-bounds. It is unknown why this tree was there or was forgotten by the developers. It is possible to get there by using rocket storage to get enough height and by diving into the out-of-bounds water.
Ricco Harbor
Invisible Barrel
An invisible barrel can be found in the beginning of episode 1 after triggering the Gooper Blooper battle. Strangely, the invisible barrel has no collision on the side but has collision on top.
Pinna Park
Pinna Park Ferris Wheel
Viewing the Park from Pinna Beach in 'Episode 3 - Red Coins of The Pirate Ships,' the Ferris Wheel should be rotating at its regular pace, but rather the Ferris Wheel is rotating quickly. The only mission where the Ferris Wheel rotates quick is in 'Episode 5 - The Runaway Ferris Wheel,' but in Episode 5, the Ferris Wheel seen from the beach is rotating at its regular pace. This suggests that 'Episode 3 - Red Coins of The Pirate Ship' and 'Episode 5 - The Runaway Ferris Wheel' may have switched places during development, or this was just a simple oversight from the developers.
Unobtainable Bananas in the Sky
High above Pinna Park's beach in episode 3 is a bunch of bananas that are reachable using. It is likely an oversight the developers forgot to remove.
Misplaced Water Bottle
In pinnaBoss1 (the Mecha-Bowser fight in Pinna Park's first episode) there's a misplaced water bottle on top of the first roller coaster loop. This bottle doesn't disappear like normal bottles and is unobtainable by normal standards.
Misplaced Trees
Also in pinnaBoss1; all but one tree are either misplaced, or missing from the map. Since the tree shadows are not objects, but rather textured parts of the map, each tree's shadow still remains where the tree's suppose to be.
| 2 Misplaced Trees | 3 Misplaced Trees | 1 Misplaced Tree | 1 Misplaced Tree | 1 Misplaced Tree | 4 Missing Trees | 1 Missing Tree |

Sirena Beach
Metal Palm Tree Climbing
In the Casino in Episode 4, there is a metal palm tree that one climb if they jump high enough thanks to an invisible pole within the decoration. If Mario reaches the top, he will jump up instead behaving like he does when he reaches the top of a living tree. The other three palm trees lack the invisible pole object and all four metal palm trees cannot be climbed at all in the Casino in Episode 5. It's possible that this feature was removed due to being glitchy and the developers simply forgot to remove it from one of the trees.
King Boo's Goodies
Out of Bounds in the King Boo boss arena are 10 peppers, 10 coins, and 2 Bloopers.
Noki Bay
Unlayered Goop
In Noki Bay Episode 1, the effect layers are missing from the goop making it a static image. The goop on the walls are unaffected by this oversight.
Misplaced Shine Spawn
Noki Bay's 100 coin shine always lands on top of the tallest shell tower, but in Episode 8 the spawn was accidentally placed at around the curvature of the shell instead.
