Debug mode

The "Stage Select", "Test", and "Exit" options don't seem to work. Selecting them just takes you back to the menu. I was going to mention this on the page but I'm unsure whether it's the code doing this or the game itself. The stage select kind of works if you turn the code on while in a level, highlight the stage number and turn the code off.

If you reset the game and the menu is the first thing that pops up, turning the code off makes the menu scroll to the right and do a nice fade-out and goes back to the opening cinematic ... probably the proper "Exit" animation. I dunno. --Rabidabid 17:05, 12 April 2011 (EDT)

If you disable the code after the menu opens you will be able properly use the menu's selections. Selecting "TEST" showed the ending of the game, after selecting a stage in the "STAGE SELECT' it will then bring you to the character screen followed by starting the stage you selected. I did not test the "EXIT" however so I am unsure if it works properly.--Abystus 17:17, 12 April 2011 (EDT)

Disabling the code after the menu opens automatically exits the menu for me. I tried it in bsnes, snes9x, and ZSNES and they all do the same thing. Weird. Are you using an actual cartridge or something? --Rabidabid 17:52, 12 April 2011 (EDT)

So I just got home and tried it out and what do you know you were correct. Apparently when disabling a cheat it reverts the value to the previous screen used which is why it doesn't stay on the screen. I have made a new code for you to test, this should replace the loading of the title screen with the Debug Mode Screen (01843A07). From there you should be able to properly use the menu as intended. I will update this on the main page as soon as possible. Also thanks for uploading the pics as I posted this at work and did not have a chance to do so.--Abystus 18:48, 12 April 2011 (EDT)

Hmm. Well, it works in snes9x and ZSNES. It doesn't work in bsnes though. Pressing Start to skip past the intro cinematic resets the game back to the Taito screen (but the music continues to play). And the title screen pops up normally when you wait through the intro. But I got it to work in older versions of bsnes so I dunno what's going on there. Also, exiting in the other emulators doesn't do that fade-out animation I mentioned with the other code. I wonder what that's about. --Rabidabid 20:19, 12 April 2011 (EDT)

I hacked the code on Snes9x so it should fade out fine there. There are slight differences in emulation between the major ones which could account for the differences. Emulator compatibility isn't that high on my list so 2 out of 3 compatible emulators is fine by me. And you are correct on it replacing it while only skipping the Taito screen and going straight to the title screen. I wanted to make it to where it would allow access to the debug menu, but not completely block the use of the title screen so I went that route. Unfortunately I have not found a button combination for this menu so it rules that option out. I have revised this one more time for the easiest non-intrusive display possible (01812B07) will allow the debug menu to load after the Taito screen fades (when not skipped). This leaves the intro and title screen accessible to the user if they choose to skip the Taito screen or leave the debug menu. --Abystus 21:03, 12 April 2011 (EDT)

Now the Taito screen just repeats infinitely. :P Still works fine in snes9x and ZSNES though. People are more likely to use those anyway so no biggie I guess. Nice find by the way. --Rabidabid 21:32, 12 April 2011 (EDT)
