Different setup logos
As far as I know the setup screens, splash screens and load screens are identical, with the exception of the image size (the splashes are smallest while there is a loadscreen available in 1024x768 if I am remembering correctly) Does anyone know better? --

1.0 Version?
How would one know if they have a 1.0 version of the game? — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sindle (talk) • (contribs)
- They'd check the registry entry by using regedit on Windows machines. -Blayer98
Use, Use, Use!
I realized that I have been fuzzy with my use of use. I have been using the definition that an official (Maxis) object must actually run the primitive in a Tree. There's some "unused" ones that are in BHAVs but the game will never, under any circumstance actually run them-- either because that node is never called or because the condition pointing to it will never happen-- thus they are never used. --

Easter Egg
There is an easter egg where if a household reaches 100 in-game days played, you'll recieve a pop-up letting you opt-in to getting an info pop-up about one of the game's developers every in-game day over the next 26 days. Would this be worth documenting? -TheKins (talk) 23:56, 4 December 2015 (EST)
Localization differences
Honestly it should probably be added as it's own section, but I don't have the game files available so i can't check right now. As far I remember the main two differences between US and non-US versions is the neighborhood screens (including the subneighborhoods such as downtown) where the US style roads are replaced with a more generic asphalt. This is already covered in the article. The other thing is the music for the neighborhood screens, where the US and non-US versions uses a different music tracks for the neighborhood screens. nhood1.mp3, nhood2.mp3 and nhood3.mp3 wind up being unused in the non-US versions where it uses the latin tracks for some reason. Why those changes were done is beyond me, as rest of the game is very 'american' in style otherwise, just like how most Maxis games were (like how Simcity 2000 only had raised highways). Regarding the To Do on the Wiki Page
So, where exactly is the Shared/Sys/ directory?--Tin Soldier (talk) 19:21, 18 January 2019 (EST)
- This. I wonder if it might be in a .far but I can't even determine the first place to look... - Purplewowies (talk) 20:15, 28 June 2019 (EDT)
- D'oh. It's probably in the folder in UIGraphics but only in certain releases or with certain expansions or something. - Purplewowies (talk) 20:56, 28 June 2019 (EDT)
- Hrm. Well, it doesn't exist on either a full game with a Deluxe base or a vanilla 1.0! 0_o - Purplewowies (talk) 23:12, 28 June 2019 (EDT)
- So it turns out everything is right and I'm just woefully inattentive because it's almost surely referring to the directory inside the .far file in the UIGraphics folder. Some but not all of the images in the folder are already in the article. - Purplewowies (talk) 16:33, 29 June 2019 (EDT)

The Sims Steering Committee
The Sims Steering Committee, a intresting video by Don Hopkins one of the devolopers of The sims showcasing a alpha build of the game that was shown to EA executives. While I hadn't had the time to take a closer look at the video the very first lot seen in the video is the unused lot 11 that is basically identical to the final version, the other intresting thing is that scenarios was in the game early on but was scrapped in favor of just having a tutorial.Ailure (talk) 07:09, 18 July 2019 (EDT)
"You probably want me to unlock the neighborhood files" prompt
I have a vivid memory of messing around with the neighborhood files back in the day (I'm pretty sure I was changing lot numbers around and exploring the lots that aren't normally available - for example; going into The Sims/UserData/Houses and renaming House00.iff to House01.iff, making it possible to enter the lot by clicking on lot #1 - which is the top left one in the "original" neighborhood view ingame) and getting a message that said "Development time message - You probably want me to unlock the neighborhood files", followed by two options of yes or no. Would this be worth documenting if someone can recreate it? If you google "You probably want me to unlock the neighborhood files" you'll get a few (but very few) results of people getting them too. If my memory doesn't fail me, I didn't notice any difference depending on if I pressed yes or no to the prompt. Maybe someone else can look into it. Eitherway it's a prompt you wouldn't see ingame under normal circumstances. --Titowam (talk) 22:19, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
