Beyond Good & Evil is a 2003 action-adventure video game developed and published by Ubisoft. The story follows the adventures of Jade, an investigative reporter and martial artist, who works with a resistance movement to reveal a planet-wide alien conspiracy. The player controls Jade and allies, solving puzzles, fighting enemies, and obtaining photographic evidence.
Michel Ancel, creator of the Rayman series, envisioned the game as the first part of a trilogy. The game was developed under the codename Project BG&E

Unused objects/models
Some unused objects can be accessed through cheating:
Carlson-Peeters
The book ported by Double H is a fixed object that you can't use, transfer, or access to it's
description. If you try to access to the item description through cheating, you can see a very
basic and unused model of a book, and no text for the description.
Unused object 1
This object has no icon, name, or description text. It's model is similar to a taser.
Unused object 2
This object has no icon, name, or description text. It has two different animated textures.
Unused music
There's a unused alternative version of the Akuda Bar music in the game files.
Unused sounds
| To do: There might be more unused sounds, but it's hard to know without mistakes. |
Unused checkpoint sound
This unused sound might be used as checkpoint/new lap sound for the races early in
development.
Unused need AF1 sample
Unused sample of Pey'j asking for an AF1 in GpeyjX_124.wad.
No turbo sample
It seems that early in development you couldn't use turbo when the boat was damaged as it's said
in GsalyX_118.wad.
Longer spanish samples
Some of the samples from the spanish dialogues are larger than they should be, beeing cropped
later by the game. At the end of these samples we can hear the sound of paper pages.
Unused videos
There's an unused propaganda video with an early General Kehck model
| Unused | Used |
|---|---|
![]() |
![]() |
There's a pre-rendered video with one of the ending cutscenes. The video is shorter than the
cutscene, and it has some differences from the final cutscene.
Unused textures
| To do: find a way to properly dump the game textures |
Certain beta creatures that were not seen in the game still had their texture come up in certain levels.
Crab creature
The crab creature, as seen in the picture, was a creature in an earlier iterations of Beyond Good & Evil, but was never seen in the game. It may have had similar features to the Alpha Mini Spider. This means that the creature, or atleast the creature, is placed somewhere within the game but outside the perimeters of the game world (void) and thus never encountered.
Unused code functionalities
Infinite items
If you set the quantity of any item (like turbo) to a extremely high value throw cheating, the
item counter will dissapear from the HUD, and every time you use the item, its quantity value
won't decrease. This infinite item functionality is never used in normal gameplay, and seems to
be unfinished as the quantity value still decreases when you transfer the item to your partner.
Command line BIG file path
On the Windows version of the game, you can specify the path and name of the BIG packed file with
the game resources passing it as parameter on the command line. If no parameter is passed, it
defaults to BGE.exe /B sally_clean.bf.
Talk
It seems that not many people tried to extract game resources from BG&E as is not really easy (like other UbiSoft games). The game resources are all packed in a BIG format file sally_clean.bf that fortunately has a tool to extract it's content called bfextractor that also converts the *.waa audio clips to *.wav. Game resources have the following extensions:
| Extension | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| WAA | audio | Music and sounds. Can be converted to WAV with bfextractor |
| BIK | video | Bink video. Can be played with VLC. |
| MTX | unknown | Very big files. Their filenames suggest them to be video files. In that case they could be unused |
| BIN | packed/binary files | These files have strings, maps, models and graphics. The map scene format seems similar from the one of Rayman 2. There's an open source tool called bgaetool for extracting the content of these files, but it didn't worked for me with the GOG version of the game. |
| WOL | pointers | Very tiny files with very descriptive names. They have most of its data zeroed. |
| OFC,OIN,OMD | unknown | Very tiny files. They have most of its data zeroed. |
Photos taken from the game camera are stored in JPEG format.
