Monsters Options

AAAHH!!! Real Monsters Genesis Monsters Options.png

While the game is paused, enter this code to open the Monsters Options menu:

BAAA BAAA BAAA AAAC BAAA BAAA BAAA CCCA

The button sequence check for this is located at address $0033CA-003433. Button presses are stored to memory range $FFE852-FFE871, with the oldest stored first.

Memory address FFE784 is set to 0001 if the code was entered correctly. You can also use Game Genie code HNBT-AACN or Action Replay code 00034C:003B to access the menu directly after the Sega logo.

When CHEAT is set to ON, invincibility is enabled as well as infinite mid-air jumps. Also, debug X Y coords are displayed in the upper right corner of the screen during gameplay. Once you warp to a level, you can return to Monsters Options by pausing the game and pressing A.

Unused Level Mission Screen

Genesisaaahhhrealmonstersunusedscreena.png

This screen is used in the SNES version when starting up Assignment 2 (screen 28). However, in the Genesis version, the boss fight is in a different level and doesn't have the assignment screen transition. Essentially, this screen is left unused. After picking this screen, it simply loads the Score screen, just as if you just defeated her. And since the level wasn't played, the game gives you a perfect score by default.

Secret Screen

AAAHH!!! Real Monsters Genesis Dump Bonus.png

After the dump bonus level is completed, code at address $024B70-024B91 executes. First, it checks to see if you collected all the gold skulls in exactly 4 bounces (FFE850:0004). Next, it checks if the button code BBBA BAAC was entered while the game was paused (yes, it's possible to pause the game during the bonus round).

If all that matches, the secret screen below opens. Or, at least, it's supposed to. Some kind of bug prevents this from working correctly - check the Talk page to help solve the mystery:

Elementary, my dear Cactus.
This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.

For now, use Game Genie code GTBT-AACN or Action Replay code 00034C:0034 to view the secret screen after the Sega logo.
