This is a sub-page of A Hat in Time (Windows, Mac OS X)/Modding Tools Content/Unused Particles.

Each particle in the game is constructed from multiple different components to make the complete effect. Some particles have components that are disabled, however, some of which reveal early designs for the particle.

Contents

General

Brewing Hat Explosion

Probably the particle with the most unused components is the particle used by the explosion for a flask thrown by the Brewing Hat. Hidden inside of it is the entire older version of the particle from the Beta builds of the game!

Ice Hat Break Effect

The Ice Hat particle used when reverting back to normal from statue form has a couple unused components for sparkle effects.

Time Stop Clocks

An unused component in the original particle used for the Time Stop Hat before the black and green fire effect took its place. This generates spinning clocks all around the player instead of strictly in front of the camera. They also spawn with random rotations.

Electric Effects

Three electric particles have unused components that add even more intense electricity to the effect.

Boss Effects

Two common boss particles, for exploding and a little effect after exploding have unused component parts and components. The purple explosion has an unused component part that makes some of the pink goo more dense at the core of the explosion instead of it flying outwards. The post explosion particle has two unused components: one for little stars appearing, and another for a broken manga zoom effect, indicating an old leftover.

Butt Slams Effect

Both butt slam particles, the generic one and the one used by the Mad Crow stomp attack (Which saw use elsewhere in the final game) have an unused component for a bright light in the effect.

Water Effects

Three water particles, including the unused one that lacks a ring effect, have an unused component for a bubble effect.

Online Party Effects

Two particles used by features in Online Party. The first one is used by the crown that the player can wear in Online Party. It has a unused component that displays very tiny light rays at the center, which would normally be impossible to see because it renders behind the other light effects and because the crown model would obscure it. The second one is for gaining points in Online Versus. It just has some components leftover from whatever other particle it was based off of.

Hat Swap Effect

The particle used when changing Hats has a couple unused components for a spinning pink star effect.

Time Piece Gleam Effect

A minor particle used by Time Pieces, has an unused component for a spinning star effect. As the particle normally only lasts for a fraction of a second, a version is provided below that has the effect extended by a few seconds for ease of viewing the effect.

Time Piece Trail

This Time Piece particle has an unused component part for adding individual velocity to the yellow aura effect.

Scooter Honk

The particle used when honking the scooter has two unused components for additional effects.

Faster Water Drops

This water dripping particle has an unused component part that makes the water drops speed up as they fall.

Gold Sparkly Particle

A sparkly particle has two unused components for a yellow aura effect and a sparkly particle that only appears when at a far distance from it.

Spaceship Appear Twinkle

The particle effect used on the title screen right before the spaceship appears has an unused component for little yellow stars.

Streamers Test

This unused particle has a couple unused components for more streamers and small effects.

Velocity Test

The particle used to test the velocity of components has an unused component for arrows that point upwards and float upwards, as well as an unused component part in that component that makes them fall like the other arrows.

Mafia Town

Repair Dust Extra Dust

The unused particle that was used for the scrapped Repairing the Cannon mission in Mafia Town has an unused component for additional, smaller dust clouds appearing around the effect.

Angry Mafia Fire Effect

The fiery effect for when Mafia start blocking your umbrella attacks have an unused component for a red orb at the center.

Mafia Boss Effects

Several particles used in Mafia Boss's fight have unused components, some strange, some interesting.

A particle for the water geyser in the center of Mafia Town has a couple unused components for a lot of dust effects.

Vault Code Collected

The particle used when collecting a Vault Code in Mafia Town has a couple unused components for a slightly fancier effect.

Battle of the Birds

Sawblade

The particle used by the sawblade hazard has an unused component that enables another spinning effect in addition to the ones already present in the particle.

All three basement light variants have an unused component that enables a circular light effect at the top of the particle.

Deadbird Back Bomb

The particles used by the bomb that gets placed on Hat Kid's back halfway into the Deadbird Basement boss fight have a couple unused components and parts that...actually rather change the appearance of them a lot. The red sparks particle has an unused pulsing effect, and an unused component part in the radio effect cuts out light behind the center of the effect.

Wall Hog Dive

The particle used by the Deadbird Basement boss when jumping off a wall at a player has an unused component part that makes the red effect much bigger.

Front Stab Effect

The particle used by the Deadbird Basement boss has an unused component for a spinning effect, adding further evidence that the attack originally had the boss spinning a knife in front of them instead of rapidly stabbing.

Intensive Camera Flashes

The particle used by camera crowds has a disabled component for another layer of camera flashes. Might've gone unused to try to prevent people who are sensitive to flashing lights from being at risk.

Fireworks Effects

Two firework particles have unused components for a more intensive appearance.

Parade Cannon Fire

The particle used by the parade floats when firing rockets has an unused component part for making the circular light effect scale differently. In-game, when it appears, it's already at its max size. With the component enabled, it scales up from 0, then goes back down to disappear.

Penguins Car Spin Effect

The Moon Penguin car attack for the Deadbird Basement boss has an unused component for an inner circle effect.

Subcon Forest

Snatcher Chemical Explosion

The explosion particle used when hitting Snatcher with a blue potion has an unused component that makes pink dust clouds appear in the effect.

The particle used for summing Dweller cages has an unused component part that makes the line effects rise up more instead of just moving outwards from the center, while the particle used for it teleporting around the arena has an unused bubble effect component.

Rough Patch Warning

The particle used by the scrapped Rough Patch enemy has an unused component part to make the pulse effect appear within a small area instead of always in the same spot.

Snatcher Curse Hit

The curse effect used in the cutscene for the initial meeting with Snatcher has a couple unused components for additional lightning effects.

Dweller Bell Shine

The particle used by the Dweller Bell objects have an unused component part that makes the lines effect move more upwards rather than just straight out from the center.

Candle Fire

A basic candle fire particle from Subcon Forest has a couple unused components for an ember effect and a red light effect.

Dweller Fruit Effects

The particles used for activating a Dweller Fruit and for a Dweller Fruit Exploding. The activation one has a minor unused component for small red wisps that appear near the center of the effect. The explosion particle has an unused component for smoke residue.

Forest Fire Smoke Particle

The particle for smoke in the fiery area of Subcon Forest has an unused component part that makes the smoke rise up off the ground and appear more as a wall instead of just a grounded effect.

Locked Snatcher Teleporter

The unused particle effect for the unused Snatcher Teleporters has an unused component for another pulsing effect that overlaps the center of the teleporter.

Spider Mouth Poison Drip

The particle used by the spider enemies. This particle was actually developed live in a developer stream from February 27 2016, and thus the two unused components leftover in it can be seen being created in-action in that footage.

Snatcher Room Fill

The unused Snatcher-related particle meant for the scrapped third floor has an unused component part that makes the circle effect not rise as high as normal.

Water Gushing Small

This unused water gushing particle has an unused component for a green dust effect at the base.

Alpine Skyline

Alpine Skyline Night Lightning

A lightning particle used in Alpine Skyline's finale has an unused component for sideways lightning.

Toxic Seed Bomb Trail

An unused component part in the trail particle for the toxic seed bombs that the large Corruption Flowers shoot out that gives the shadow-y aura trail its own velocity.

Time's End

Flamethrower Effects

The unused pulse flamethrower particle has an unused component part that makes its flames move in more of an oval shape than a circle. The second one here is used for the tops of the flamethrower traps in Mustache Girl's castle, and has an unused component for a more intensive and bright fire effect.

Hyper Zone Falling Time Pieces

A particle used just before and during the Hyper Zone part of the Mustache Girl boss fight has a disabled component part that would've limited how far down the Time Pieces and other effect could move down. In-game, they only disappear after a set amount of time instead. There's also another variant of this used during an earthquake effect that has a disabled collision component part for the Time Pieces, meaning that they could originally collide with the floor as they fell. It was likely disabled for performance issues.

Mustache Girl Shadow Aura

The shadow-y aura particle used by Mustache Girl in the Hyper Zone part of her boss fight has an unused component for a dark orb in the center.

Power Pon Field Break

The particle used when the Power Pon barrier is broken in Pink Paw Manhole has an unused component for balloon fragments, suggesting it was built off of the balloon popping particle.

Enemy Rumbi Wake Up Sparks

The particle used by the enemy Rumbis in the Rumbi Factory Rift for activating has a couple unused components for red sparks that appear right at the start of the particle's effect.

Black Smoke

The particle used when successfully assembling a relic has a couple unused components for dust effects.

Spaceship Powerpanel Activated

The particle used when a Powerpanel is activated on the Spaceship has two unused components for little effects that linger after the main effect triggers.
