This page details bugs of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

PlayStation 2

The original PlayStation 2 version (v1.40) contains a few bugs that were fixed in later revisions.

Detonator Glitch

If you have unlimited ammo for your weapons (obtained by completing the game 100%) and use either a car bomb or remote grenades, you will be stuck with "unlimited ammo" for the detonator. You are not able to switch back to other weapons without reloading the game.

Cherry Poppers Save Glitch

Saving at the Cherry Poppers Ice Cream factory can corrupt your save file. Easily avoided by saving elsewhere.

"Trial By Dirt" Stat Glitch

The stats for the "Trial By Dirt" side mission would not show up until you beat the "Test Drive" side mission with the same time as "Trial By Dirt". A minor problem, since it doesn't affect getting a 100% status.

This was fixed in v2.01, but rebroken in v3.00.

Windows

"Love Juice" Bug

Attempting to pick up Mercedes with a single-seat vehicle in the mission Love Juice causes the game to softlock in the cutscene.

This was fixed in the Japanese release and the German "Green Pepper" release, which was based on the former, by checking if the player is maneouvering a Pizzaboy, Baggage Handler, an aircraft, or a boat; prompting the RBM1_14 text ("You need a car or a motorcycle!") upon trying to pick Mercedes up with either.

Single-frame Animations

When Tommy is carrying a large weapon such as the M4, chainsaw, or minigun his animation consists only of a single, static frame when they were properly animated on PlayStation 2.

Custom Skins Corrupt cPlane Function

Also present in Grand Theft Auto III, giving your player a custom skin with the letter e as the 21st character its the file name will cause the game to read it as an exponential function, and corrupt the CPlane function; in this game, this not only corrupts aircraft (causing them to fly in or below the ground), but also the Colonel's Yatch (which also makes the mission impossible to complete).

Similarly, having a number in the 22nd character will cause further corruptions; note that the Colonel's Yatch is only affected when starting a new game.
