깰 수 없는 게임
제작상 실수로 인해, 모든 버전의 레드·블루(적·녹·청) 모든 버전에서 깰 수 없는 게임이 만들어질 수 있다. 게임 중간에, 비전머신 03 파도타기와 금 이빨(바오바에게 비전머신 04 괴력을 받기 위한 아이템)을 찾기 위해 사파리존에 들어가야 하며, 이 때 게임을 진행하기 위해 필수적으로 500원을 내야하는 부분이 있다. 만약 모든 아이템을 팔아버리고, 트레이너한테 500원을 미처 얻을 수 없는 상황이며, 고양이돈받기를 쓸 수 있는 나옹이 없다면, 게임을 깰 수 없게 된다.
이 버그는 옐로에서 수정되었으며, 500원이 없어도 사파리존으로 들어갈 수 있게 수정되었다:
- 만약 돈이 조금 있다면, 적게 낸 돈 만큼 사파리 볼을 얻게 된다.
- 만약 돈이 아예 없을 때는, 경비원에게 계속 집적대면 사파리 볼 1개로 입장할 수 있게 해준다.
Man on the Roof Glitch
On Cinnabar Island, if the player doesn't have the Secret Key in the Bag and uses a Pokémon with Surf to surf on the east coast, returns to the shore while near the Gym and walks in front of the Gym's door, a sprite of an old man will appear on the roof of the Cinnabar Gym while the text box saying "The door is locked..." appears. After the text box disappears, the sprite will vanish.
There are other variations of this glitch, such as when pressing Start as soon as the player enters Nugget Bridge or Route 6. All variations were fixed in the European releases.
Escape Rope bug
In all versions of Red, Green, and Blue, you can use Escape Rope to escape the Pokémon Fan Club in Vermilion City as if it were a cave. This was patched in Yellow.
