Sometimes, Midway makes an average N64 port of an average arcade game that doesn't really have anything odd in it. And sometimes...just sometimes...

it's California Speed.

Unused Weather Setting

CalSpeedN64-weathersetting.png

An unused weather setting can be accessed by using the following GameShark code and pressing L at the track selection. It has two settings: Sunny and Rainy. Setting it to Rainy has no effect.

Hmmm...
To do:
Fog appears with the value 0x05.

Placeholder Texture

The message in-game.

Maybe if they made it bright green...

In the track Mojave Desert, there is a "hidden message" on a billboard very close to the starting line that reads

SoMETIMES...
God TAkES MOMMIES
ANd PuPPIES AWAY...
And SoMETIMES...
JuST SoMETIMES...

I do

According to developer Morgan Godat, this was simply a placeholder texture that someone forgot to replace.
