Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Windows)/Unused Audio

From The Cutting Room Floor
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This is a sub-page of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Windows).

There's a fair amount of unused voice-overs in the game files, mostly relating to cut game modes.

Multiplayer

Hmmm...
To do:
Upload the ripped audio. Additionally, there are more files in the announcer directories which I believe are unused but haven't been able to confirm. If anyone wants to lend a hand, the voice files can be found in the game's directory in the /main/ folder distributed through the localized_english_iw.iwd files, in sound/voiceovers/XX/mpvoice and /XX/mp, where XX is RU, UK, US, or AB
  • Add quick message voice lines.

Announcer

Hardcore and Old School

Unique lines exist for each faction's announcer for Hardcore Free-for-all, Hardcore Team Deathmatch, "Team Hardcore", as well as Old School. In the final game, hardcore and old school are not separate game modes, but rather a server setting that can be applied to any game mode. Thus, these are unused in the final, as the announcer will simply state whichever mode is being played paying no heed to the server's hardcore/old school settings' status.

Cut Gametypes

Announcers also have match-start dialogue for a few gametypes cut from the final game, such as King of the Hill, Gridiron, Tactical, Highspeed, Capture and Hold, and Capture the Flag (somewhat surprisingly, as almost all other main-series games feature this gametype). King of the Hill may have been reworked into Headquarters, as the in-game console codename for Headquarters is koth.

Other Dialogue

Capture the Flag in particular has many recorded lines for picking up, capturing, and returning enemy and friendly flags. There are also a great deal of generic attack/defense lines for an unknown mode or modes (probably King of the Hill, Gridiron, or Capture and Hold), mostly involving the announcer discussing control of the battle, securing objectives, regrouping, changing positions, or telling the team to keep fighting, etc. Some of these are much like the lines used for Domination (though far less specific in nature).

Apparently, at one point they planned to have the announcer congratulate you when you completed a challenge or leveled up.

Only friendly airstrikes are announced in the final. Enemy airstrikes are only indicated aurally by the sound of approaching aircraft.

Battle Chatter

Unused radio dialogue from the Airstrike and Helicopter killstreaks.

Singleplayer

Mile High Club

The bonus "Mile High Club" stage contains unused dialogue of Gaz referencing Soap. This is because Mile High Club was originally intended for earlier in the game but couldn't be fit into the story, hence why it was altered to use generic versions of the SAS members and became a post-credits bonus.

Heat

Unused sound files inside the file Villagedef_SAS_ indicate that Mac was intended to be rescued in this mission.

  • Gaz: "We got a man down! He's still alive! And he just activated his transponder!"
  • Mac: "I owe you one mate. Thanks for coming back for me."

F.N.G.

  1. Strangely enough, all of Mac's dialogue is located in voiceovers/US and not voiceovers/UK.
