UFO Mini-Game

Unmarked Helicopters! Anyone remember the X-Files?

At the password screen enter HIDE. The gameplay is basically a cross between Space Invaders and Centipede — the player must shoot UFOs while avoiding the blue enemy which will home in on him.

Present at 0x5E8E amongst the title graphics are additional title graphics for II' TURBO as well. These had been used in the same game found in From TV Animation Slam Dunk 2: Zenkoku e no Tip Off.

Unused Game Handlers

There are a couple of the game evens/handlers unused in this game.

Character Viewer

GameShark code 01028BFF or Game Genie code 02F-E3A-F76 will replace the main menu with a character viewer offering a dozen hilarious expressions.

CHR Viewer

GameShark code 010B8BFF or Game Genie code 0BF-E3A-F76 will replace the main menu with a semi-broken CHR viewer.

Sound Test

O_O

GameShark code 011E8BFF or Game Genie code 1EF-E3A-F76 will replace the main menu with Sound Test. You can test all the music and sounds in the game using Up / Down and Left / Right respectively.

Animation Viewer

Striker!

GameShark code 01FE8BFF or Game Genie code 1FF-E3A-F76 will replace the main menu with test of all animations out in the field.

Development Flags

There are two development flags in ROM, which may be either 0 or 1 to disable or enable the according features. In the released version of this game, both flags are set to 0.

Debug Mode

Captain Tsubasa J - Zenkoku Seiha heno Chousen (Game Boy)-debug.png

Use the Game Genie code 622-08F-6EF to switch the game to Development mode. The screen is similar to Animation Viewer, but has only 20 options. Each option represents one of the game events/handlers in no particular order, including some of mentioned unused material above, i.e. the Sound Test and Character Viewer. Surprisingly, this menu has no UFO game included.

It is worth nothing that the Debug Mode handler (index $00) in released version is actually used to jump directly into the Intro mode.

Demo Mode

Use the Game Genie code 642-0EF-6E7 to switch game to Demo mode. However, there is only one difference between the Demo and the Release versions. Instead of continuing the game after the first match is over in any game mode, the game will show you the advertising screen, with "SGB版キャプテン翼J乞うご期待" (Stay tuned for the SGB version of Captain Tsubasa J.) written on it. Afterward, it will return back to the title screen.
