General's Challenge

SoundIcon.png
General's Challenge
Cut quotes of some of Generals, and even cut Generals with all their quotes.

EVA unused sounds

As well as the original, Zero Hour sound banks store plenty of EVA unused sound files for used and unused features, including a fully unused introduction to new content in the ZH expansion.

SoundIcon.png
Introductions
Unused valuable, though slightly outdated, information about new units and upgrades.

Funds transfer feature

Supposed to be a funds transfer system from your allies to you and vice versa. What's left from this feature are only these sound files.

Transctiption USA China GLA
You have requested funds from your ally.
We have transfered funds to our ally.
We have received funds from our ally.
Your ally is requesting funds.

Upgrade annoucements

For some reason, ZH addon developers decided to leave all voice lines from EVAs about new upgrades unused. There are also some quotes for upgrades that already existed in the original game and were left unused as well.

USA

Sentry drone upgrade complete.

Control Rod upgrade complete.

Advanced Control Rod upgrade complete.

GLA

Reinforced Buildings upgrade was supposed to be Elite Guard upgrade and would place four RPG Troops on the buildings instead of decreasing vulnerability multipliers.

Sound file Transcription
The Elite Guard are protecting our buildings now.
Our structures will be guarded now.
We are upgraded to Elite Guard.

China

Neutron Shell upgrade is complete.

EMP Mines upgrade is complete.

Internation Opinion

One of the China campaign missions involves the international opinion feature, which serves as some kind of timer, decreasing over time, and the player has to replenish this value by destroying GLA statues. This feature is not used anywhere else. However, an identical and complete set of USA and even GLA EVAs exists.

Transcription USA GLA China
"Our international opinion is becoming low.
-
Our international opinion is very low.
[1]
-
Our international opinion is rising.
-
Protect civilian holdings from harm.
-
Our international opinion is falling.
-
Destroy more enemy troops to increase international opinion.
-
Sir\General, destroying enemy structures will increase international opinion of us.
-
Destroy GLA statues to increase international opinion, sir.
[2]
-
Destroying civilian structures will adversely affect our international opinion.
Doesn't exist. -
Our international opinion is critically low.
-
General, be careful that the civilian structures are not destroyed.

Other

USA

One of our heroes has been discovered.

This voice line is unique for USA; neither China nor GLA have identical soundfiles. All factions use separate voice lines for all three faction heroes: Colonel Burton, Black Lotus, and Jarmen Kell. So this may be a leftover from a simpler announcement system when EVA just told you about discovering your heroes unit without mentioning their exact name, or it could be meant for when you have multiple heroes.

Upgrade Announcements

These unused announcements are voiced by the same voice actors who voiced units, which usually corresponded to this upgrade.

USA

Bunker Buster

Two unused sound files for this Stealth Fighter upgrade exist, and just like the used one, they are voiced by Aurora Bomber, the initial owner of this upgrade.

Sound file Transcription
Upgraded all bombs to Bunker Buster.
The Bunker Buster bombs are now installed.

Advanced Training

One more sound file for this upgrade is unused.

Sound file Transcription
We have completed the Advanced Training.

Capture Building

For some reason there's a voice set for this upgrade completion, voiced by Ranger (so presumably it's for USA). Neither China or GLA have similar voice sets.

Sound file Transcription
We can now take control of the enemy structures!
Let's go capture some buildings!
We can capture the enemy buildings now.

Chemical Suits

Two more quotes for this upgrade from Ranger.

Sound file Transcription
These chemical suits are going to help!
Upgrading to chemical suits.

Supply Lines

Two more unused quotes for this upgrade from the Chinook.

Sound file Transcription
The supply lines are more efficient now!
New supply lines will help.

Drone Armor

There are two unused quotes for this upgrade from the Crusader.

Sound file Transcription
Drone Armor upgrade installed, sir.
Upgrading drones with armour protection.

Hellfire Drone

It seems that the player would need to research Hellfire Drone before using it, while the release version doesn't have this limitation. Voiced by the Crusader.

Sound file Transcription
Hellfire Drones upgrade is ready.
The new Hellfire Drones are ready.
We can use Hellfire Drones now, sir!

Counter-measures

Two more quotes for this upgrade went unused. Voiced by the Raptor.

Sound file Transcription
Our jets are upgraded with counter-measures.
These counter-measures will keep us in the skies longer.
Counter-measures installed, sir.

China

Weapons Grade Uranium Shells

This cut upgrade for Nuke General was supposed to be a Depleted Uranium Shells upgrade continuation (this upgrade is granted to him from the start). Voiced by the Battlemaster.

Sound file Transcription
Weapons Grade Uranium Shells are now available, sir!
The Weapons Grade Uranium Shells will destroy the enemy!

Fusion Reactor

As well as Weapons Grade Uranium Shells, this would be further improvement of the nuclear tank upgrade for Nuke General. Voiced by the Battlemaster.

Sound file Transcription
Fusion Reactor will make us faster!
The Fusion Reactor upgrade is complete.
Make room for the new Fusion Reactor!

Autoloader

Two unused voice lines for this upgrade exist, voiced by the Battlemaster as well.

Sound file Transcription
We will fire much faster with the new Autoloaders.
The Autoloaders will ensure our victory!

Chemical Suit

It is unclear which exact general would receive this upgrade, though Infantry General fits this more than the others. Voiced by the Red Guard\Minigunner.

Sound file Transcritption
Thank you, sir, for the Chemical Suits!
These new Chemical Suits will keep us alive!
General, the new Chemical Suits have just arrived!

Elite Training

These soundfiles are clearly connected with Elite Training General's Power for Infantry General (Fai), but are internally named just as they would be upgrades. Most likely, they were used in the early stages of development, when Red Guards, that trained in groups of three, were still as Fai's possession, and Elite Training was an upgrade for the Red Guard Training General's Power, but later was repurposed for the Minigunner unit.

Sound file Transcription
General, we have completed our Elite Training!
Our Elite Training is complete, sir!
We have completed our Elite Training!

Patriotism

Two more quotes are buried in the game files, voiced by the Red Guard\Minigunner.

Sound file Transcription
Patriotism will lead us to more victories!
Our Patriotism will overwhelm the enemy!

GLA

Camo Netting

Two more unused quotes for the Camo Netting upgrade exist. Voiced by the RPG Trooper.

Sound file Transcription
We can hide our defenses with Camo Netting!
Our defenses will be hidden from the enemy!

Demo Grenades

Voiced by the RPG Trooper. Most probably was supposed to be used manually, as here are 3 quotes for ability selection and 3 after target selection. It might be Demolition General-exclusive due to his relation with explosives, but it might not be—there are also toxic grenades, and the base game already provided the choice between explosives and toxins for a single unit (SCUD Launcher, Bomb Truck).

Sound file Transcription
High-explosives are ready!
It will be a big explosion!
Demo Grenades loaded!
Blow up the area!
Destroy them all!
There may be some collateral damage.

Toxic Grenades

Same as above, but as a toxic variant.

Sound file Transcription
Launch the Toxic Grenade!
Toxicate them!
Poison the enemy!
Toxic Grenades primed!
They cannot escape our toxin.
We must use toxin to defeat them!

Cash Bounty

Cash Bounty is the General's Power from the original game without any related sound files; however, the ZH add-on contains 3 quotes for it. Either the developers initially wanted to remake it as an upgrade but rejected this idea, or they recorded these sounds just to play them when this ability was purchased (there are unused scripts in WorldBuilder that allow this). Voiced by the Rebel.

Sound file Transcription
Our victories will earn us more money!
The Cash Bounty will help out cause!
We will gain wealth from destroying the enemy!

Booby Trap

Two more unused quotes for this upgrade, voiced by the Rebel.

Sound file Transcription
The enemy won't be ready for these Booby Traps!
Our Booby Traps will surprise the enemy!

Units

USA

Mechanic

Voicelines for a vehicle-repairing version of Ambulance for Superweapon General. Supposedly, it wouldn't heal troops anymore, giving this function to Support Stealth. The unit with associated soundfiles was cut, but the concept survived; the 1.01 patch of ZH add-on made all ambulances able to repair vehicles.

Sound file Transcription
Need some repairs?
Repair vehicle, ready for service.
Engineering here.
Let's getcha back out of there.
We have all the right tools.
We can fix this.
There's repairs to be made.
Mechanic on the move.

Aurora Alpha

This Aurora variation for Superweapon General has its own voice set, which is sadly unused. It seems like the initial name of this variation was a more straight forward 'Fuel Air Aurora' or so.

Sound File Transcription
Fuel Air Aurora.
Fuel Air Bombs, armed and ready.
Fuel weapon, ready for deployment.
Ready to Fuel Air Bomb.
Dropping off the Fuel Air Bomb.
The Fuel Air Bomb should be enough.

Hypersonic Aurora

Seems to be the Air Force General's own variant of the Aurora. Judging by one of its responses, it wouldn't slow down (presumably after bomb dropping).

Sound file Transcription
Let's make this quick.
We won't slow down.
It'll be a clean delivery!
Hypersonic Aurora.
Hypersonic aircraft.
Hypersonic, ready to takeoff.

Laser Ranger

Cut Laser General version of Ranger.

Sound file Transcription
Laser scope's clean.
Laser Ranger, ready for combat.
Ranger here, equipped with laser rifle.
Got my laser with me.
Light'em up!
We'll cut through.

Laser Burton

Laser General's Colonel Burton would've been equipped with a laser rifle as well.

Sound file Transcription
I have a new toy I'd like to share.
You want the best - here I am. With laser!
Turn on the light!
Like ants under a magnifying glass.
Take your last breath.

Laser Stealth Fighter

Another laser unit for Laser General. Supposedly, lasers would be his main weapon, and if that's true, it's unclear how lasers would clear garrisoned buildings with the Bunker Busters upgrade.

Sound file Transcription
Laser Stealth Fighter, ready to takeoff.
Laser systems online.
Stealth Fighter, ready for laser combat.
Fill 'em with holes!
Blast them!
Heat 'em up!

Laser Comanche

Another scrapped Laser General unit, this time a Comanche variation. Judging by one of these quotes, it would be armed with lasers instead of rockets, which raises the question of how the Rocket Pod ability would be changed.

Sound file Trapscription
Who needs rockets when we have lasers?
Laser Comanche, ready to strike.
Comanche laser systems online.
Light'em up!
Poke some holes through them!

Laser Humvee

Yet another scrapped laser-equipped variation of this unit.

Sound file Transcription
Always wanted a laser gun.
These lasers can shoot anything down.
I love this new technology.
Burn a hole through them!
Time for some laser shootin'!

Laser Paladin

Like there weren't enough cut laser-equipped units for Laser General, this would've been a Paladin armed with lasers. Eventually it was so brutally cut that the standard variant of Paladin became unavailable for this general as well.

Sound file Transcription
Lasers will keep it clean.
keep those reactors save back there.
Setting our goals high.
Laser Paladin.
Punch 'em through.
Bringing home the bacon.

Support Stealth

This is a scrapped Stealth Fighter variation for Superweapon General, which apparently would heal friendly nearby troops like the Ambulance, working in a pair with the vehicle-repairing Mechanic.

Sound file Transcription
Supporting our troops.
Support Stealth here.
Health from above.
Let's get out of there and support our troops.
Give 'em some health.

Stealth Comanche

Unused quote for the Air Force Comanche variant. It seems that his stealth ability was supposed to be an innate ability of his rather than an upgrade. Since the release version of Comanche isn't always stealthed, it would be inappropriate to use these quotes for him.

Sound file Transcription
Stealth Comanche here.
They won't see this Comanche.
Gunship, ready for covered ops.
Looking out for enemy scouts.

China

Super Lotus

Unique selection sounds for Infantry General Super Lotus hero. One of these quotes says "I'm quick", which could be a hint to the initial Super Lotus advantages. The final game gives her only a veteran promotion (which doesn't include speed increases) and increased range for Vehicle Hack ability.

Sound file Transcription
Super Lotus here, give me an update.
Super Lotus.
I'm quick.

Super Hacker

A special version of Hacker for Infantry General would appear to be able to capture buildings, just like Black Lotus.

Sound file Transcription
I will get control of that building!
Their building will be under our control.
I'll get control of it.
General, i have captured their building!
He-he! We have control of their building.
Enemy building captured, General.

Radiation Rocket (Nuclear Red Guard)

Apparently it was supposed to be an ability for Nuke General Red Guard, judging by the internal names of the files and voice actor (Red Guard).

Sound file Transcription
Radiation rockets, ready for launching.
Nuclear energy will destroy them!
The radiation will flow!
They won't be able to take it!
Fry them!
Melt the enemy!!

Nuclear Hacker

The developers had plans for another variant of the Hacker for Nuke General. Apparently, he would just deploy his nuclear suitcase to blow it up. One of the reasons why this idea was scrapped might be the inability to combine this and the obligatory Internet Hack ability (which would be hardly performed on a nuclear suitcase) as an inexhaustible Chinese funds source.

Sound file Transcription
This briefcase if heavy.
Where should I deploy it?
I'll start a chain reaction.
I'll be careful not to trip.
This is expensive equipment!
Hmm, what's this button do?
Inputting detonation codes.
I hope I have time to get away...
Preparing activation sequence.

Listening Outpost

Unused quotes for deploying and packing suggest these actions were to be performed manually.

Sound file Transcription
Setting up the dish.
Deploy the radar.
Preparing observation equipment.
Let's listen in.
Packing up.
Shutting down scanners.
Turning off taping devices.
Take this operation elsewhere.

Helix

A single unused attack quote.

Sound file Transcription
Load the guns, now!

GLA

Combat Cycle

An unused Move quote.

Sound file Transcription
Push it!

Battle Bus

Ramming attack quotes. Apparently this attack would be available after the salvage upgrades - they add spiky bumper in front of the bus.

Sound file Transcription
We will not be stopped!
Ayiaaaa!
Ram them!
Hold on, everybody!

Demo Saboteur

Cut Saboteur version with explosives for Demolition General. Presumably, it was they who were meant as "agents sneaking into your base and planting explosives" in one of the Demolition General quotes.

Sound file Transcription
Saboteur here, armed with demolitions.
Demo Saboteur.
I'll sneak in and blow them up.
I will keep this charge safe.
Demo charge in hand.
Readying the demo pack.
Preparing demo charge.
It will crumble!
I'll put the demo charge there.
They will not notice this trap.

Demolition Battle Bus

Quotes for the cut Demolition General Battle Bus variant that would be able to drop Demo Traps. The Cut General's Challenge map for the Demo General contains waypoints and scripts for Battle Bus routes and Demo Trap dropping points. Note that Demolition General uses Advanced Demo Traps instead of their usual version, but it is not mentioned in these quotes.

Sound file Transcription
We have many Demo Traps to spare.
We will sabotage the enemy with traps!
Release a Demo Traps!
Quickly, before they see us!
Drop a Demo Trap! Do it, now!

Demolition Rebel

Unused Rebel quotes for Demolition General's own version of the Rebel. According to them, he would've been able to place demolition charges in a manner similar to Tank Hunters.

Sound file Transcription
Demolitions will bring us victory.
They won't escape my Demo Charge!
Let's get closer to the enemy.
I will use the Demo Charge.
Arming Demo Charge.
I have the Demo Charge.
Blow them to pieces!
Place a charge there.
They will not know who did it!

Quad Sniper

Cut Quad Cannon variant, supposedly for Stealth General.

Sound file Transcription
Line them up.
Quad Sniper.
I'll put them to rest
Petty insects!
Put them out of their misery.
Mow the lawn.
Mow them down.
Turn them into mud!

Unknown

Unknown where this is meant to be used. The file name points to Hijacker and his "ej"-indexed action, ability, or something else. Possibly could've been used when the hijacker spawns out of his destroyed vehicle.

Sound file Transcription
Ah, well, who's next?
That was a fun ride, huh?

Other

Radio Station

A sound set that presumably is related to the cut radio station tech building. Consists of gibberish radio transmissions that can't be transcribed. Two of them seem to be identical but still have different file sizes.

Sound file
  1. Despite having the file name suffix "verl" that points to a "very low" quote, EVA says "critically low". This doesn't happen with China and GLA quotes.
  2. This quote is the most strange of everything unused. A member of GLA merely says "destroy GLA statues for good", and while the other quotes, with the fact that GLA suddenly cares about international opinion, could be justified with a stretch in campaigns (for example, to show UN pressure on GLA, which could depend on international opinion, or to present GLA had grown into full-fledged country), this one can't be explained at all.
