Counter-Strike: Global Offensive/Unused Models

From The Cutting Room Floor

This is a sub-page of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Hmmm...
To do:
What real-life LAV is the ingame model based on?

Characters

Old Hostages

In the "characters" folder are four old-style hostages in the based on the predecessor's. These were replaced over time with the current hostages who eventually became liftable in March 21, 2013, however, they still show up in the Hammer Editor when you place a hostage.

SAS Variant

The perfect look for taking out that snowman in cs_office!

The ctm_sas_variante player model is an SAS unit in white and gray camouflage. The hood of this variant's gas mask is black instead of white, and their visors are pink. This variant was completely removed when the SAS models were reworked.

Georgian Riot Police

CSGO-GRP.png

This is an unused Counter-Terrorist model titled "Georgian Riot Police". It was created by Greg Onychuk from Hidden Path Entertainment and was uploaded by him onto CGHub (now ArtStation) under the alias "Ony". The unused model can be found in the pre-alpha.

SEAL Team 6

In the models\player folder, there are three odd models for the SEAL Team 6: a "base" model, the helmet and vest. The base model is in an... odd position.

Old Playermodels

All of the old FBI, SAS, Phoenix Connexion and Leet Krew models are still left in the files, even after those models were remade.

Zombie

An unused model of a zombie is present in the models\player directory. This Zombie model was part of Valve's plans to officially support the Zombie Escape and Zombie Survival modes, but ultimately never came to pass.

MP5

Can be found in the public beta of CS:GO as v_smg_mp5.mdl and w_smg_mp5.mdl in folder '.../models/weapons' , the model was later removed. The MP5SD released in August 2018 uses a different model and completely reworked animations.

Map Props

de_alleyway

Some models meant to be used in a cut Demolition mode map called de_alleyway. Like many other maps for this mode, it was based on a Left 4 Dead map, more specifically, No Mercy's 1st map. Most of the models (except for the basketball hoop model) seem to miss their textures, which can be found in beta versions of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, except for the water treatment facility model!

LAV

An untextured model of a LAV (Light Armoured Vehicle). Interestingly, the textures for this model can be found in beta versions of the game!

Payday 2 Character Masks

These masks were added to the de_bank map as part of the cross-promotion between CS:GO and Payday 2, but were removed on May 2017.

de_aztec

Ever since this map got completely removed from the game on 13 November 2017, all unique assets made for it go unused.

de_cbble

Assets for an earlier remake of de_cbble can be found within the game files. These files suggest that this cancelled de_cbble remake was set around a medieval fair inside a castle instead of the castle undergoing renovations. The flagpole models are animated.

de_depot

A single model is found in this folder. Although this model was meant for the cut Depot map, it was eventually repurposed for Overpass until it was replaced by generic crates.

de_mirage

Props from older revisions of the popular Dust 2's equally-as-popular cousin, Mirage.

de_nuke

All (or almost all) assets made for the original version of Nuke now go unused after the remake released with Operation Wildfire.

hr_nuke

de_train

All (or almost all) assets made for the original version of Train now go unused after the remake released with Operation Vanguard.

de_tvstation

Two models for a cut map named de_tvstation. From the name, you can guess that the map was set in a TV station.

de_vostok

In game files there's unused models for a cut map called de_balkan, which was a re-made version of the map Vostok from Counter-Strike: Condition Zero. This remake is set on Romania instead of the original's Latvia, however, most signs are written in Russian. It was supposed to have the SAS and Balkans as its factions. Some props from this map are reused in other maps.

gg_tibet

A copy of stovelarge named stove_large with an underscore. This copy seems to be missing its textures.

Scaleform UI Models

Pedestals

These pedestals were used in the Scaleform UI for inspecting various in-game items, such as pins and weapon skins.

StatTrak™ advert

This logo showed up on the pedestal when you inspected any StatTrak™ weapon skin.

Early Weapon Case

A model for an early version of the CS:GO Weapon Case 1 can be found as "weapon_crate_a.mdl". This model has red stripes and a red logo compared to the used model's yellow stripes and logo.
