And you were just a scroll away from being fired too...
Oh dear, I do believe I have the vapors.
This page contains content that is not safe for work or other locations with the potential for personal embarrassment.
Such as: Scantily-clad women (and to an extent, a barely dressed man as well) in mildly-suggestive poses.

Dance Dance Revolution 3rdMIX introduced many new features and quality-of-life changes to the main games: Double Maniac charts (which were exclusive to the new songs), the Vivid noteskin, which separates arrows by rhythm placement, and nonstop courses of four songs each.

While the main gameplay mode only features the new songs in the Basic and Another difficulties, the older songs, as well as the Maniac difficulty for the new ones, can each be accessed with separate title screen codes.

NOTE: All of the downloadable step data has been converted in order for it to be readable by programs like Stepmania and ArrowVortex.

Unused Song

The game's filesystem contains referenced files for an unused song: CAN'T TAKE MY EYES OFF YOU (70's Remix) by BEAT BOX, from the album Dancemania X2. This applies to all of the game's releases.

Upon the filesystem extraction, they can be found in the folder data\mdb\cant, and contains graphics, steps, background animation data, and lyrics.

Lyrics (from cant.per)

B.Crewe/B.Guedio
I love you baby
and if it's quite all right
I need you baby
to warm a lonely night
trust in me when I say
Oh, pretty baby
don't bring me down, I pray
now that I found you, stay
And let me love you, baby
let me love you
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off of you
You'd be like heaven to touch
Oh, I want to hold you so much
At long last love has arrived
And I thank God I'm alive
You're just too good to be ture
I can't take my eyes off of you

Steps (from cant.cms)
Since no music data is available, a custom cut is used.

Overdump Data

The original Japanese release's CARD.DAT contains many unreferenced song files within its data; they're leftovers from Dance Dance Revolution 2ndMIX CLUB VERSiON 2 and Dance Dance Revolution Solo Bass Mix. While the former seems to match the final data, the latter likely come from a prototype version, as the six available songs have some level of differences between the overdump and the final game.

Regional Differences

Not counting the 3rdMIX PLUS update, Dance Dance Revolution 3rdMIX has a grand total of four known different versions, labeled on MAME as follows:

  • ddr3mj - The game's original Japanese release.
  • ddr3ma - A version of the game released for the Asian market.
  • ddr3mka - The game's first South Korean release, labeled as VER.KOREA.
  • ddr3mk - The game's second South Korean release, labeled as Ver.KOREA2.

The differences between them are as follows:

Overall

  • The "Another" difficulty was renamed to "Trick" in all of the game's Asian releases.
  • The Konami Original/Dancemania labels in the song selection screen are missing from all of the Asian releases.
Japan Asia
DDR3rd-selectJAPAN.png DDR3rd-selectASIA.png

Characters

  • The character Charmy was given tights in the Asian releases of the game. Notably, this modesty change actually stuck with her for her official design for the 4thMIX games, which gave her a matching metallic top.

DDR3rd-charmyJAPAN2.png DDR3rd-charmyASIA2.png
  • The character Devil-Zukin was renamed to Black-Zukin in the Asian releases.

Songlist

The songlist was slightly altered between the four versions of the game.

  • The Asian releases lack the following songs:
    • Stomp to my beat / JS16
    • LOVE / SONIC DREAM
    • TUBTHUMPING / CHUMBAWAMBA
    • GET UP (BEFORE THE NIGHT IS OVER) / TECHNOTRONIC feat.YA KID K
    • GET UP AND DANCE / FREEDOM
    • IF YOU CAN SAY GOODBYE / KATE PROJECT
    • XANADU / THE OLIVIA PROJECT
  • The VER.KOREA release adds 7 Korean licenses:
    • BA KKWO / LEE JUNG HYUN
    • BU DAM / BACK JI YOUNG
    • BYUL / TEAM
    • FACE / N.R.G
    • SUNG SUK / SPACE A
    • TELL ME TELL ME / s#arp
    • WA / LEE JUNG HYUN
  • The Ver.KOREA2 release kept the aforementioned Korean licenses, and added 9 more:
    • AROMDAON 21C / 2000 Daehanmingug
    • GAGGAI / s#arp
    • GAMYEONUI SIGAN / FIN.K.L
    • GIMME GIMME / Country Kko Kko
    • GYOUNG GO / Tashannie
    • HOGISIM / Hans Band
    • ROSE / FIN.K.L
    • SHOCK / GOOFY
    • Starian / DUKE

Due to these changes, the default songs in each version are different:

  • Japan: XANADU
  • Asia: UPSIDE DOWN
  • VER.KOREA: BA KKWO
  • Ver.KOREA2: SHOCK

Courses

  • The CLASSICS course was slightly altered between the original Japanese and regular Asian versions of the game, with the songs UPSIDE DOWN being moved as the first in the course, IT ONLY TAKES A MINUTE (Extended Remix) also deslocated to being the second in the order, and I believe in miracles replacing GET UP (BEFORE THE NIGHT IS OVER).
    • The VER.KOREA release, however, replaced this course with two: KOREAN MUSICS 1 and KOREAN MUSICS 2, both featuring songs exclusive from this version of the game.
  • The Ver.KOREA2 release replaced the SMiLE.dk and CAPTAIN courses with two more KOREAN MUSICS courses, which are now labeled from A to D.
    • The first two aforementioned KOREAN MUSICS courses were also slightly altered to fit the inclusion of the release's 9 new songs.

Graphics

  • In the original Japanese release, the song OPERATOR was erroneously labeled as OPERATOR (Two Gees Mix). This was fixed in all of the Asian releases, and later in 3rdMIX PLUS.

Steps

  • The song UPSIDE DOWN has a different Single Basic chart in all of the Asian releases. It is noticeably easier, being rated 1 foot in contrast to the original's 3 foot rating. Curiously, this new chart is also used in Dance Dance Revolution 4thMIX PLUS.

  • The songs BA KKWO and WA, which debuted in the VER.KOREA release, received new Basic and Trick charts in Ver.KOREA2. Most of them have different ratings as well. These newer charts are also used from Dance Dance Revolution 3rdMIX PLUS.
