Likewise, on Route 2, the exit to Silent Hills is also denoted by grass patches.

The house on the route west of Old has been replaced by a tall grass patch. The sign closest to Old was also made part of the fencing, and a new sign has been added by the gate.

The route west of Font. Two signs placed, one near South's eastern gate, and another right near the entrance from Font. The former also has a bit of fence with it, whereas the latter is bizarre. Either more land was planned to extend from Font, or this sign was only temporary.

The route between New Type and Sugar. Two signs were added, one on the southern side and another on the northern side. Likely placeholders, as both signs create little islands around them.

A building has been added atop the cave entrance on Route 18 (the route northeast of New Type). This building is very likely the Power Plant, one of the unused dungeons in the Spaceworld '97 demo. Regardless, a sign now replaces the Cut tree in front of the entrance.

The route which leads to Prince, north of Silent Hill, has been changed slightly, making the rock formation smaller and adding fencing, in turn making it more similar to Route 30, which connects Prince to Mt. Fuji. Interestingly, it seems as though this might have been the original map, as in MAPLINK.DMG, the second map is commented out in favor of the map used in the Spaceworld '97. This could suggest that it might have been changed for the sake of the demo, as to keep the route hidden from players.

Removed Routes

VANISH.DMG, found in the BACKUP folder, used to define NPC vanish flags, has a few commented out vanish flags for routes that do not have any map data. It's unknown if these maps were completely cut, or if they simply hadn't been worked on yet. Interestingly, Routes 5 and 8 are actually shown on the prototype's Pokégear map, and even have defined landmarks.

  • R05 (Route 5): Originally, Route 5 was paired with Route 4 and linked High-Tech with West. This idea was scrapped in favor of a ferry port, as seen in the backup overworld. In both versions of Nihon, Route 4 is the desert road connecting West with Birdon.
  • R08 (Route 8): Route 8 was another sea route that got scrapped prior to Spaceworld '97. It was supposed to connect High-Tech with Font, as shown on the prototype Poké Gear map. Like Route 5, it was scrapped in favor of a ferry taking you to Font.
  • R27 (Route 27) and R28 (Route 28): Unlike Routes 5 and 8, these areas are not present on the prototype Pokegear map. It is hard to say where these two routes would've been located. According to MAPLINK.DMG, also found within the backup folder, R26 is the sea route that links Blue Forest with North, while R29 connects Silent with Prince.
