Miscellaneous bits of data, be it related to moves, internal names, trainer rosters, or even items.

Move Lists

Proper list of moves exist in two files within the leaked data. The first one is known as WAZA_TBL.SAV, and consists of a list of both stats and move names, though as it turns out the name of these moves is reused from an earlier iteration of the move roster, as it is full of scrapped/duplicate moves and blank entries. The second file, EFF_TBL.DMG, meanwhile, only contains move names, but this selection is already much closer to the final one, aside from a few outliers.

A third file also exists, this one known as WAZA_SE.DAT and documenting move sound effects. It is virtually identical to EFF_TBL.DMG, aside from Upper Cut being replaced with Pay Day, there referred to as "Okane", which literally translates to "Money". However, Upper Cut is still referenced, albeit in a commented-out form. Interestingly enough, there, entry 165 and 166 are occupied by seemingly placeholder moves known only as "Seikou" (Success) and "Sippai" (Failure) respectively, with the former also being mentioned in EFFECTED.DAT. In comparison, in the final games entry 165 was overwritten by Struggle, and entry 166 doesn't even exist as the move list stops at Struggle.

Overworld Sprites Internal Names

A file found which documents internal names for an earlier iteration of the overworld spriteset. While at first glance identical to the early "V2" overworld spritesheet, it actually contains enough differences to prove that it corresponds to a later version of it, with the changes listed in bold in the table for the sake of clarity:

  • Spot 14 is labeled as "Morimori" (Bulging Muscles), but V2 instead uses a scrapped alternate design for the little girl NPC. This is likely the "burly man" spriteset used by Hikers, one of the few missing from V2.
  • Spot 17 is labeled as "Ane" (Big Sister), but V2 instead uses the sprite for the Bike Shop owner. This is likely the spriteset used by Daisy Oak, one of the few missing from V2. The Bike Shop owner was later relocated to spot 21.
  • Spot 51 is labeled as "Okaasan" (Mother), but V2 instead uses an earlier version of "Otousan" (Father) which lacks shading, the player's mother instead found at spot 58.
  • All the sprites from slots 59 to 71 are missing in V2. Meanwhile, there, spot 56 is instead occupied by a scrapped alternate design for the gamer boy (here seen playing a Virtual Boy), 57 is some sort of whirlpool (perhaps a precursor to the warp pad), and 58 is the player's mother (moved to spot 51).

27 Sylph Chief Trainer class goes unused in the final games. Uses what would later become Blaine's sprite.

Another entry was added in the final games, and the Pokémon were beefed-up overall. Moreover, the Pokémon selection was tweaked across the board, with the rival namely using a high-leveled Magikarp that is nowhere to seen in the final games (though there he still ends up using a Gyarados). The inclusion of Magikarp is interesting, as Sugimori later revealed that at one point the rival was supposed to be a "Gyarados trainer" named "Gyarao". While this idea was likely short-lived, it's interesting to see how early on in development your rival was already planned to have a Gyarados.

Not only were all his Pokémon beefed-up, but it appears that your rival was originally intended to have the final evolution of all three starters for this fight, instead of the one that is strong against the one you chose at the start of the game. Moreover, Alakzam and Rhydon were added to his team.

Items

An early iteration of the item list, featuring some interesting changes here and there:

Decimal Item (Early) Item (Final) Notes
(PowerFeed) Master Ball Completely different item. May have been able to strengthen the user when consumed.
(Sleep Powder) Ultra Ball Completely different item. May have been able to put the enemy to sleep.
(Great Ball) Great Ball Same as final.
(Poké Ball) Poké Ball Same as final.
(Town Map) Town Map Same as final.
(Bicycle) Bicycle Same as final.
(Lapras) ????? An "item version" of the Pokémon Lapras. This item still exists in the final game, though goes unused and had its name dummied out. When used, it allows the player to surf without requiring a Pokémon or the necessary badge. May have much later been reworked into the idea of Poké Rides in Sun and Moon, with Lapras actually being one of the available Pokémon Rides.
008 ??? (???) Safari Ball Not yet implemented.
(Pokémon File) Pokédex An earlier name for the Pokédex, which in the final game is known as ポケモンずかん (Pokémon Encyclopedia). This item still exists in the final game, though goes unused. When used, it allows the player to open the Pokédex, both in and out of battle, though doing it while in a battle will mess up the VRAM and cause graphical issues. It's possible the devs may onceintended for the player to be able to use the Pokédex even in battle, possibly to see the description of new Pokémon, like in the anime.
(Moon Stone) Moon Stone Same as final.
(Antidote) Antidote Same as final.
(Burn Heal) Burn Heal Same as final.

(Super Potion) Super Potion Same as final.
(Potion) Potion Same as final.
021 ??? (???) BoulderBadge Not yet implemented. This item still exists in the final game, though goes unused, had its name replaced with that of a badge, and had its behavior overwritten with that of the Safari Zone's "Throw Bait" function.
022 ??? (???) CascadeBadge Not yet implemented. This item still exists in the final game, though goes unused, had its name replaced with that of a badge, and had its behavior overwritten with that of the Safari Zone's "Throw Rock" function.
023 ??? (???) ThunderBadge This item still exists in the final game, though goes unused and had its name replaced with that of a badge.
024 ??? (???) RainbowBadge This item still exists in the final game, though goes unused and had its name replaced with that of a badge.
025 ??? (???) SoulBadge This item still exists in the final game, though goes unused and had its name replaced with that of a badge.
026 ??? (???) MarshBadge This item still exists in the final game, though goes unused and had its name replaced with that of a badge.
027 ??? (???) VolcanoBadge This item still exists in the final game, though goes unused and had its name replaced with that of a badge.
028 ??? (???) EarthBadge This item still exists in the final game, though goes unused and had its name replaced with that of a badge.
(Escape Rope) Escape Rope Same as final.

(Iron) Iron Same as final.
(Carbos) Carbos Same as final.
(Calcium) Calcium Same as final.
(Rare Candy) Rare Candy Same as final.
(Dome Fossil) Dome Fossil Same as final.
(Helix Fossil) Helix Fossil Same as final.
(Wing Fossil) Secret Key Completely different item. Rather intriguing as the Old Amber already exists, as seen earlier in the list. Possibly an earlier version of Aerodactyl's fossil which was later overwritten.
044 ??? (???) ????? Same as final.
(Dummy Bomber) Bike Voucher Completely different item. May have later been reworked into the Smoke Bomb item introduced in Generation II, with the idea of a potentially distracting lure becoming that of a smoke bomb.
(100P Power) X Accuracy Completely different item. Unknown what use it may have had originally.
(Leaf Stone) Leaf Stone Same as final.
(Card Key) Card Key Same as final.
(Nugget) Nugget Same as final.
050 ??? (???) PP Up Not yet implemented. This item still exists in the final game, though goes unused and had its behavior overwritten with an alternate version of the PP Up item.
(Poké Doll) Poké Doll Same as final.
(Full Heal) Full Heal Same as final.
(Revive) Revive Same as final.
(Max Revive) Max Revive Same as final.
(Guard Spec.) Guard Spec. Same as final.
(Strong Hand) Super Repel Completely different item. May have been able to give the holder a physical boost, as seen by its name, which references the Pokémon Machoke, whose Japanese name comes from the term "superhuman strength". Thus, this item's name could be read as either "Strong Hand" or "Machoke Hand".
(Secret Book) Max Repel Completely different item. Unknown what use it may have had originally. Might have been a key item.
(Dire Hit) Dire Hit Same as final.
(PachinkoBall) Coin This item still exists in the final game, though goes unused. Can be stacked in the inventory, but cannot be stored in a Coin Case, and attempting to use it displays Professor Oak's "This isn't the time to use that!" message. An earlier version of the Celadon City casino coins, which as seen by the unused behavior would have seemingly not required a Coin Case (an item which is missing from this item list). Interestingly, this item's early name refers to pachinko balls, while the final one refers to slot machine tokens, which may infer that Celadon City's casino once hosted pachinko machines instead of slot machines.
(Fresh Water) Fresh Water Same as final.
(Hot Soup) Soda Pop An earlier version of the Soda Pop item.
(Orange Juice) Lemonade An earlier version of the Lemonade item, which in Japan is actually an orange drink, called "Mix Au Lait".
(Fuji Letter) S.S. Ticket Completely different item. May have once been a key item, given its association with Mr. Fuji. It's unclear if it was intended to be delivered to him, or if he was the one handing us the letter. Regardless, the only delivery mission in the final games consists of delivering Oak's Parcel, an item which is missing from this list.
(Gold Teeth) Gold Teeth Same as final.
(X Speed) X Attack Was shifted around during development.
(X Attack) X Defend Was shifted around during development.
(X Defend) X Speed Was shifted around during development.
