Final Fantasy VII/Debug Room

From The Cutting Room Floor
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This is a sub-page of Final Fantasy VII.

Hmmm...
To do:
A full description of what all can be done in the debug room (and it is one seriously massive place) can be found here. Commentary on various debug text found in the game and within these rooms can be found here.

There exists, hidden deep within FF7, a very detailed debug room. It is not only very significant to FF7 itself, but its existence led to the discovery of many, many more debug rooms in other games!

To enter it, first input one of the following GameShark codes, then either start a new game, or load a save and enter any area except the world map (which causes serious glitches). Once inside, make sure to turn off the cheat device, or you'll keep returning to the main room each time you try to change screens.

The Lobby

FF7Debug-Lobby.png

This is the first area of the Debug Room, and it primarily acts as a means to access the other rooms. There is, however, one NPC here.

Yuffie

Yuffie has quick access to various test and game functions.

Page 1:

  • NEXT (Opens the next page.)
  • MENU ON (Enables all menu commands.)
  • BATTLE LOCK (Turns off battles. Handy!)
  • BATTLE UNLOCK (Re-enables battles.)
  • MOVIE LOCK (Turns off FMV sequences.)
  • MOVIE UNLOCK (Re-enables FMV sequences.)
  • GLOBAL RESET (Removes all your party members and resets the game clock.)
  • FULL NAME (Changes all your party members' names to test maximum width on message boxes. However, this has the side effect of making your characters near-invincible! It's either making the name too wide or tacking garbage characters from what used to be the kanji table, as it works properly as just a width test in the Japanese versions.)
  • NEW START (Starts a new game with your current stats.)
  • EXIT

Page 2:

  • BACK (Go back a page.)
  • SOUND RESET (Turns the music off.)
  • FULL MATERIA (Gives you every Materia in the game, even unused ones. See the Notes page for a list, and how to manipulate this.)
  • BATTLE999 (Launches a test battle against a group of harmless pyramids that give loads of XP.)
  • EXIT

Room One (北 kita) - Yoshinori Kitase's Room

FF7Debug-Room1.png

This is the first room, at the 12-o-clock point of the Lobby. It forcibly adds Cloud to the party if he isn't already, and makes him leader. This room is fairly buggy, but it lets you go to some of the cooler parts of the game, and even lets you re-add Aeris to the party!

Mr. Kitase, by the way, was the game's director.

Flashing Aeris

A big list of misc. options, usually related to Aeris' death. SPOILER ALERT!

  • cancel (Cancels out.)
  • bone after arma (Bone Village, after Meteor has been summoned.)
  • san dun (First area of the Corral Valley cave.)
  • sleep forest (The Sleeping Forest.)
  • ancent forest (The Ancient Forest.)
  • lost lake (The City of the Ancients. Nothing seems to be going on...)
  • water pray (The secret room in the City of the Ancients, just before Aeris gets shanked.)
  • Aeris dead (The scene after beating Jenova LIFE.)
  • rocket(□first) (Tiny Bronco hangar, just before fighting Palmer. Press ◻ before selecting to go to the same place, but just after arriving at Rocket Town.)
  • bone first (Arrived at Bone Village.)
  • bone luna (Bone Village, looking for the Lunar Harp.)
  • los in (The scene in Upper Junon where Cloud notices that something's missing... Sometimes this option will screw up - you'll appear in the right area, but with no characters appearing.)

"Possessed" Tifa

Various Nibelheim-related options, it seems. You actually don't need to talk to her, just walk near her.

  • past jenova(□egg) (In the Nibelheim reactor during the Lifestream flashbacks. The scene where Cloud and Zack attack Sephiroth. Press ◻ before choosing to skip ahead to the scene where Cloud kills Sephiroth.)
  • join vincent (Shinra Mansion basement. Vincent tries to join when you leave.)
  • shinra house vincent(□present) (Stuck on a bed in the Shinra Mansion bedroom. Hold ◻ before choosing to go to the entrance of present-day Shinra Mansion.)
  • shinra under(□awake) (Outside the lab in Shinra Mansion. Sephiroth is catching up on some quality reading time. Hold ◻ before choosing to go to the same place after Sephiroth discovers his heritage.)
  • nivl reactor (Nibelheim Reactor, present day.)
  • nivl reactor out(□with tifa) (Outside Nibelheim Reactor, during the flashback. Someone seems to be trying to run on-screen, but is stuck, so the game hangs. Hold ◻ before selecting to go to the scene where Tifa confronts Sephiroth.)
  • nivl mt entrance(□past) (Nibelheim Reactor entrance, during the flashback. Hold ◻ before selecting to go to the scene where young Tifa climbs the mountain during the Lifestream flashbacks.)
  • Materia cave (Outside the Mt. Nibel Mako Fountain during the flashback.)
  • new event sininb34 (Flashback scene of Cloud and Zack in test tubes in the Shinra Mansion basement.)
  • new event sininb35 (After the previous scene. A man brings Zack some food and gets KOed for his trouble, Zack escapes with Cloud.)
  • new midgal (Zack and Cloud arrive at Midgar, Zack gets gunned down.)
  • nivgate (Zack and Cloud escape from Nibelheim.)
  • () (Cancels out.)

Cid

Cid's options are related to Midgar and Junon.

  • opening(□) (Intro sequence. Holding down ◻ before selecting does nothing noticeable.)
  • feel wind (Diamond Weapon battle! Hope you bought your weapons with you.)
  • gate1 open (Sector 1 station, second screen of intro area.)
  • T road(□escape) (The T-road outside the Sector 1 reactor. Hold ◻ before selecting to watch the Sector 1 reactor go boom.)
  • 1reactor(5reactor) (The bridge in Sector 1, just before the end. Hold ◻ before selecting to go to the same place in the Sector 5 reactor.)
  • junon(□yufi,R1gaiheki) (Junon, scene before Tifa's about to be executed. Hold ◻ to see the same scene with Yuffie. Hold R1 to go to the scene where Tifa has escaped and is climbing down the side of Junon.)
  • () (Cancels out.)

President Shinra

More miscellany, mainly about the Ancient City.

  • white (Tifa is trapped in the Junon gas chamber.)
  • white boogen(key) (Bugenhagen is at the ancient city. The FMV screws up and the game hangs.)
  • white boogen(no key) (City of the Ancients, but you don't have the key. How embarrassing...)
  • before (Bugenhagen arrives at the Ancient City.)
  • after (The Ancient City. Nothing out of the ordinary.)
  • white2' (Scene at the Glowing Crystal in the Ancient City. Cloud talks about the Lifestream.)
  • junonn in2 (City of the Ancients, waterfalls have been activated.)

Guy In A Suit

This guy's all about the Shinra Building.

Page 1: (Shinra Building)

  • para (Parachuting into Midgar, near the end of disc 2.)
  • 66F (66th Floor of the Shinra Building. The meeting about Sector 7 and Aeris is happening. You have no key cards, but can access many floors of the building...)
  • 67F(□) (67th floor, after Hojo heads upstairs. Hold the ◻ button when selecting to go directly to jail. Do not pass GO. Do not collect 200 gil.)
  • 68F (68th floor, just before meeting with Red XIII.)
  • 68F2 (Same as above, but takes you directly to meeting Red XIII.)
  • 70F (Next page!)
  • elevetr (66th Floor elevator, ambushed by The Turks.)
  • () (Cancels out.)

Page 2: (Top of the Shinra Building)

  • plate down meeting (Meeting at the President's office - Shinra plans to drop the plate on Sector 7!)
  • caught (After the Turks catch you on the elevator.)
  • dead president (President Shinra's been killed by Sephiroth.)
  • app rufaus (Rufus shows up. Hi, Rufus!)
  • after heli (After beating Rufus on the roof.)

Barret

Barret says nothing and has no fancy menus, because he's not that kind of guy. He gets straight to business. If you walk up to him, you'll be whisked away to the final area of the Northern Cave, in the final dungeon. With two Save Crystals in your inventory, by the way.

Red XIII

Red is also there to debug Midgar and Junon.

  • 7 pillar (Top of the Sector 7 pillar, just before fighting Reno.)
  • kolneo under (After getting dumped into Corneo's mansion's sewers, but before fighting Aps.)
  • high way (Midgar highway, after the bike chase.)
  • 5 out (Outside Midgar, after the Shinra building.)
  • airport(□gelnica) (Arrived at Junon Airport. Shows Highwind FMV. Hold ◻ to see the Gelnika Airship take off.)
  • after fire cefiros (Nibelheim Reactor during the flashback, after Sephiroth has gone to meet Jenova.)
  • jairo sky (The Tiny Bronco is airborne! Not the FMV, though, the scene afterwards.)
  • jairo sea (The Tiny Bronco is, uh, seaborne! Again, not the FMV, but the scene afterwards.)
  • junon cannon (Upper Junon mid-Weapon attack, where you meet "reporter" Yuffie.)
  • junon medical (Tifa wakes up in Junon Medical Center, after the collapse of Gaea's Cliff.)
  • () (Cancels out. Good dog!)

Jessie

Jessie handles changing your party. The names differ from what they're currently named.

  • Cancel (Brings up the member select, then cancels out.)
  • <Aeris> (Aeris joined the global party!)
  • <Tifa> (Tifa joined the global party!)
  • <Barret> (Barret joined the global party!)
  • <Red XIII> (Red XIII joined the global party!)
  • <Cid> (Cid joined the global party!)
  • <Cait Sith> (Cait Sith joined the global party!)
  • <Yuffie> (Yuffie joined the global party!)
  • <Vincent> (Vincent joined the global party!)
  • Cloud Lock (Makes Cloud the leader of the pack.)
  • Change Party Members (Brings up the member select.)

Room Two (野 no) - Kazushige Nojima's Room

FF7Debug-Room2.png

This place doesn't have too much of interest, really - most of the warps tend to leave you stuck in walls, unable to do anything. You can, however, add Young Cloud to your party here. This room also sets the music to the track "Reunion".

Mr. Nojima was the game's co-writer.

Sephiroth

Sephiroth has various scenes from Cloud's Nibelheim flashback, and some from the Lifestream.

"Sephiroth-related"

  • quit (Cancels out)
  • from pinball (Deleted cutscene! Back of the truck to Nibelheim. Someone explains how Materia is made.)
  • from Cam's inn (Young Cloud and Sephiroth on the truck on the way to Nibelheim. A dragon is fought.)
  • starry sky (Nibelheim well flashback, showing Cloud's promise to Tifa.)
  • gate (Cloud's flashback - gate to Nibelheim.)
  • gate no. 2 (Lifestream flashback - gate to Nibelheim.)
  • starry sky (Nibelheim well flashback, Lifestream edition.)
  • village no. 2 (Nibelheim, mid-flashback. Stuck and can't move.)
  • truck no. 2 (Back on the truck; this is the "real" version with Zack.)

Aeris

This list looks messed-up sometimes. Other times, it looks normal.

"Church"

  • First of all (Just fell from the Sector 5 reactor, meeting Aeris in the church.)
  • Following roof incident (Inside the Church, after Aeris has joined.)
  • After Aeris's death (Aeris's ghost in the Church.)

Priscilla

Not an amusing Australian movie about drag queens, but a bunch of Highwind-related options.

  • highwind(not going) (Cancels out.)
  • Shinra's Highwind (Rufus and his crew aboard the Highwind before arriving at Gaea's Cliff.)
  • Party's Highwind (Onboard after finding Cloud at Mideel. Cid is appointed the new leader.)
  • Evening's Highwind (Same as Shinra's Highwind.)
  • sign (Outside, on the Upper Deck. Stuck and can't move!)
  • passageway (Hall leading to stable, upper deck, bridge, meeting room, etc... Stuck and can't move!)
  • Conference room (Highwind conference room, after Cloud rejoins.)
  • Chocobo (The Highwind Chocobo stable. Stuck and can't move!)
  • Cloud Highwind (On the bridge of the Highwind.)

Tifa

Tifa's all about Nibelheim. She's also about getting stuck. All of her options result in you being stuck and unable to move in some way. Fun!

"My dear hometown Nibelhelm."
Page 1: (Nibelheim related areas)

  • village (In Nibelheim. Stuck and can't move!)
  • 1st floor of inn (First floor of the Inn. Stuck and can't move!)
  • 2nd floor of inn (Second floor of the Inn. Stuck and can't move!)
  • store (Village item shop. Stuck and can't move!)
  • Cloud's house (Yyyyup. Stuck and can't move!)
  • Tifa's House (Brings up Page 2.)
  • 1st floor of house (First floor of the southern house. Stuck and can't move!)
  • 2nd floor of house (Second floor of the southern house. Stuck and can't move!)
  • Quit (Cancels out.)

Menu 2: "Tifa's house"

  • 1st floor (First floor of Tifa's house. Stuck and can't move!) (St)
  • 2nd floor (Second floor of Tifa's house. Stuck and can't move!) (St)
  • 2nd floor window (Tifa's bedroom, during the Lifestream event.)
  • reminiscing (Same as above, but just before child Cloud shows up.)

Little Girl

"Saying good-bye to party members Cloud" (The "Sayi" is cut off the screen, so it just looks like "ng good-bye...")

Nothing to select here. This sends you to the scene where Cloud and Zack are riding in the back of the truck to Midgar.

Cait Sith

Cait discusses Nibelheim's destruction. Again, his list can look a little screwed up sometimes.

  • tragedy of Nibelheim quit (Cancels out.)
  • Part 1 (Nibelheim's destruction, with Zack instead of Cloud. As shown by Sephiroth atop Gaea's Cliff.)
  • Part 2 (In the burning Nibelheim. Stuck behind a dead dude.)

Red Haired Guy

This guy will reset your stats.

"global . re-set:"

  • yes (Removes team, resets the clock etc.)
  • no (Cancels out.)
  • ended reflecting on the past (Your guess is as good as mine.)

Doctor

The doctor isn't very useful.

"present day Nibelheim"

  • Go (Nibelheim. No events going on. Stuck and can't move!)
  • Don't go (Cancels out.)

Zangan

In the English version, he says two blank dialogue boxes and does nothing. In the JP International version, he says every character in the dialogue font, presumably as a test of text loading or dialogue fonts or something.

Barret

This Barret's a jerk. He brings up a long list, but it shows up as just a tiny little box with no options or cursor. So just hold up to reach the top of the menu, and count down from there.

  • <1> (Hangs the game.)
  • <2> (Adds Cloud to the team.)
  • <3> (Adds Barret to the team.)
  • <4> (Adds Tifa to the team.)
  • <5> (Adds Aeris to the team.)
  • <6> (Adds Red XIII to the team.)
  • <7> (Adds Yuffie to the team.)
  • <8> (Adds Cait Sith to the team.)
  • <9> (Adds Vincent to the team.)
  • <10> (Adds Cid to the team.)
  • <11> (Makes Young Cloud the leader. WARNING! Young Cloud shares his character slot with Cait Sith, which means if you add him in a file after Cait Sith has joined the team, he won't function correctly. He won't appear on the overworld, his name will be Cait Sith's, and he won't show up in battle. A similar result happens if you put Sephiroth in your team after recruiting Vincent, for similar reasons.)
  • <12> (Makes Cloud the leader.)
  • <13> (Makes Tifa the leader.)
  • <14> (Makes Cid the leader.)
  • <15> (Cancels out.)

Yuffie

And Yuffie with the weird options yet again.

  • quit (Cancels out.)
  • TRNAD51 (Just before Gaea's Cliff collapses.)
  • TRNAD52 (End of Gaea's Cliff. Hojo discusses the Sephiroth clones.)
  • TRNAD53 (Brings up message "North Cave 5-3", then brings you to a big, empty crystalline cave with no characters on-screen.)
  • BLACKBGD (Screen flashes white, then Disc 2 ends. Even if you're on Disc 1.)

Man with Blue Hat

More Highwind options!

  • quit (Cancels out.)
  • regular hours (On the Highwind, right after Cloud returns.)
  • star's scream (On the Highwind, after the whole Rocket/Meteor plan goes a bit awry.)
  • weapon appears (Highwind, before Diamond Weapon shows up.)
  • What happened to Sephiroth? (Highwind, after the North Crater barrier is destroyed.)
  • On the final day (The end of Shinra Inc. The party splits up to find their reason for fighting.)
  • Everyone came home. (Everyone returns to the Highwind after having a good think.)
  • Called from the last dungeon - (On the Highwind, before going to the final dungeon.)

Room Three (鳥 tori) - Motomu Toriyama

FF7Debug-Room3.png

This room changes the music to the Final Fantasy Prelude theme, and opens with the message: "Welcome to FinalFantasy 7 English Version". That's very polite of you!

Mr. Toriyama was one of the Event Planners on the game, so naturally his room mostly deals with events.

There's also a set of special button commands that work in this room.

  • ◻ Button; "Reset Flag" (Removes all team members and items, resets the clock, and enables all options.)
  • L1 Button; "Battle Off" (Toggles battles.)
  • R1 Button; "Reset Flag" (See Square button.)
  • L2 Button; "Set Normal Party" (Sets team to Cloud, Barret, and Tifa.)
  • R2 Button; "Default Name&No Money" (Resets party names and money.)
  • R2 Button; "Debug Name&Debug Money" - (Removes party names and gives you 131071 Gil. Bonus!)
  • Select button; "Help menu" (Brings up the list of these buttons.)

Aeris in Red Dress

"Working Now."

The lady in the red dress cares not about your indecisiveness! She sends you straight to Tifa's hallucinatory dream about Cloud's arrival at Midgar after Gaea's Cliff collapses.

Barret in Sailor Suit (Laying Down)

Tubby here deals with the Sector 7 scenes. Talking to him also changes the music to Tifa's Theme.

  • "7th Street" (Beginner's Hall, with the bouncing Save Point.)
  • Welcome Home (Looks like the Sector 7 slums the morning after the bombing mission, but everyone acts like you just got back.)
  • Before Memory (In Tifa's bar. Tifa's standing in the usual place when she talks to Cloud about Nibelheim, but acts like it's the next morning...)
  • Materia (The room below the bar. Nobody's there.)
  • Good Morning (Same as above.)
  • Before Battle (The attack on the Sector 7 Pillar.)
  • Cancel (Cancels out.)
  • After Memory (After the flashback of Cloud's promise.)

Tifa in Purple Dress

No fancy options screen, no brief Engrishy comment, Tifa just brings up the team member select screen.

Red Shinra Soldier

This guy deals with Sector 7 and Train-related things. Talking to him also changes the music to "On That Night, Five Years Ago".

"Last train from Midgar"

  • Cargo (Deleted Scene! Cloud freaks out on the cargo train, then the game fades to black and hangs.)
  • Train1 (First train car. ID Scan scene after Jessie shows you the monitor.)
  • Train2 (Second train car, during the escape.)
  • Train3 (Third train car! Getting tired?)
  • Train4 (FOURTH train car! Nearly there...)
  • Monitor (Jessie shows Cloud the train's route on the monitor.)
  • Station1 (Sector 7 station, after the bombing.)
  • Station2 (Sector 7 station, the morning after.)
  • StationFlashBack (The scene where Elmyra finds little Aeris.)
  • Cancel (Cancels out.)

Honey Bee Inn Girl

This working girl deals with Honey Bee Inn-related things. Talking to her also changes the music to "Oppressed People", and changes the window color to a horrible rainbow thing.

"Honey Bee In"

  • First Time (First time at the Inn. Game goes weird, then crashes.)
  • 2nd (See "First Time".)
  • 3rd (Back at the Inn after Cloud dons his "disguise".)
  • After All (See "3rd".)
  • Cancel (Cancels out.)

Rude

This guy! He seems to deal with event flags. The music changes each time you talk to him, from a playlist of "Steal the Tiny Bronco", "The Countdown Begins", "Judgement Day", and "Mog Flies".

  • "Everyday My Works are..." Cancel (Cancels out.)
  • Got The Jyro (Seems to give you the Tiny Bronco? Also seems to send you back to Disc 1. Largely untested!)
  • After The Meteo...TIFA (Sets your team to Tifa, Barret, and Red XIII.)
  • After The Meteo...CID (Sets your team to Cid, Cait Sith, and Yuffie.)
  • After The Meteo...CLOUD (Sets your team to Cloud, Barret, and Tifa.)
  • MakoUnderTheSea (Uhhh... Something to do with the undersea reactor in Junon, probably.)
  • Hp&Mp 1 (Party leader's HP and MP gets dropped to 0. Ouch!)
  • No Money (Lose all your gil.)
  • MoneyMoneyMoney (Gives you so much gil! 365534 gil, to be exact.)
  • Got The Keystone (Doesn't give you the Keystone immediately, but if you choose "Altar" from the Temple of the Ancients list, you'll be taken to the scene where you do.)

White Dog

Arf! Deals with Junon dock, and the undersea reactor tunnel. Also sets music to "Rufus' Welcoming Ceremony".

  • "JUNONDOC" (Cancels out.)
  • JUNONDOC1 (Junon Dock, Disc 1. Cargo ship is docked.)
  • JUNONDOC2 (Junon Dock, Disc 2. Cargo ship is gone.)
  • ROAD1 (Upper Junon entrance hall with save point.)

  • ELE1 (Elevator leading to the reactor tunnel. Stuck and can't move!)
  • ELE2 (Elevator leading to Upper Junon.
  • ROOM (Locker room where soldiers are practicing "The Special Pose"... Ooh-er!)

  • "JUNONL" (Cancels.)
  • JUNONL1 (Upper Junon, Second city.)
  • JUNONL2 (Path leading to the second city. Stuck and can't move!)
  • JUNONL3 (Left balcony outside of the upper office district. Stuck and can't move!)

Insert Seaman Joke here. Deals with the submarine stuff. Also sets music to "A Secret Sleeping in the Deep Sea".

  • MiniGame4 (Submarine game at Gold Saucer - 4.)
  • MiniGame5 (Submarine game at Gold Saucer - 5.)

Old Ancient

This guy deals with the Temple of the Ancients. Unsurprisingly, he sets the music to that area's theme, "The Forested Temple".

Page 1:

  • "Temple of the Ancients" (FORMATION) (Jump to page 3.)
  • Temple (Entrance.)
  • After Collapse (Entrance after the temple is destroyed and Black Materia acquired.)
  • Altar (This is tricky. If you talked to Rude and chose "Got The Keystone", this will take you to the altar room after Tseng arrives, granting you the keystone. Otherwise, you'll be sent there without Tseng or the keystone. Oops.)
  • Altar2 (Scene where the keystone is put in.)
  • Temple of the Ancients (Temple maze.)
  • Shop of the Ancients (Old man's shop.)
  • The Rock (Rolling rock room.)
  • The Hole of the Time (Clock puzzle room.)
  • Tirano (Treasure room after falling down the pit in the clock room.)
  • Treasure (Treasure room, except you can't open the chest.)

  • Next Page (Jump to page 2.)

Page 2:

  • "Temple of the Ancients2" (The scene where Cloud has a brainfart and gives Sephiroth the Black Materia. Whoops!)
  • Mateo (In the room with the mural on the walls.)
  • Sephiros (Sephiroth has a talk about Meteor.)
  • Hole1 (Tunnel blocked by rocks. Stuck and can't move!)
  • Hole2 (Cleared tunnel. Stuck and can't move!)
  • Boss (Room where you fight Demon's Gate.)
  • Mateo2 (Cloud freaks out, and starts laughing like a loon. Leads to the Red Dragon battle.)
  • Cancel (Cancels out.)

Page 3:

  • "Formation" (Back to Page 1.)
  • Ballet (Adds Barret to the team, and brings up Page 1.)
  • Tifa (Adds Tifa to the team, and brings up Page 1.)
  • Red (Adds Red XIII to the team, and brings up Page 1.)

Costa Del Sol Barmaid

Guess what she deals with? Also sets the music to that town's theme.

  • "Costa del Sol" (Cancels out.)
  • Town (In the town.)
  • Beach (At the beach, before meeting Hojo.)
  • Harbor (At the harbor. Stuck on a pier behind a sailor.)
  • Debug (Rufus arrives. Heidegger is stuck behind the same sailor, so the game hangs. Fun!)

Sephiroth

Curiously, despite having his own theme song, talking to ol' silverlocks triggers the main FF7 theme instead.

"Mt. Corel"

  • Mountain Road (South entrance.)
  • (Cancel) (Cancels out.)
  • Vally (Rail section, just past the reactor.)
  • Up&Down (Climbing area, after the fall from the broken railway.)
  • River (The bridge area of Mt. Corel, overlooking the river below.)
  • Hole (Inside the Hermit's Cave.)
  • PiyoPiyo (Scene with the baby birds on the cliffside.)

  • Ballet's Memory (Barret's memory of the Shinra attacking Corel.)
  • Cancel (Cancels out.)

Room Four (松 matsu) - Keisuke Matsuhara's Room

FF7Debug-Room4.png

This room is pretty neat. You can view FMVs, get the three "Kalm Traveler" items, grab lots of Save Crystals, and even put the whole "killed your girlfriend" thing aside and let Sephiroth join the party. Let bygones be bygones, you know?

Sephiroth

The big man of the house acts as the FMV viewer. He plays complete FMV movies, with no cutscenes in the middle! He's even so polite as to check whether the right disc is in before playing! What a guy.

"CG MOVIE VIEWER"

Page 1:

  • use (Go to Page 2.)
  • cancel (Cancels out.)
  • <Blank> (Dumps you back in the lobby. Handy!)

Page 2: FMV Movies. (Disc 1 movies...)

  • South Reactor (Sector 5 reactor goes boom, Cloud falls.)
  • <Blank Space> (Sector 7's destruction.)
  • NIVLHAIM tragedy (Monster in the Nibelheim Reactor, Sephiroth lights up the town.)
  • <Blank Space> (The Rocket Launch fails!)
  • Gold Saucer (The ride to Gold Saucer, and scenes from the date.)
  • take off Tiny Bronco (The Tiny Bronco takes off and crashes.)
  • AERITH death (Aeris dies and is unceremoniously dumped in a lake.)

(Disc 2 movies...)

  • SEPHIROTH (Northern Crater scenes. The Weapons wake up.)
  • WEAPON attack (Weapon attacks Junon!)
  • CLOUD psychoanalusis (Mideel is destroyed. Also, bits from Cloud's dreams.)
  • <Blank Space> (The rocket is launched at Meteor!)
  • METEO intercept failure (The rocket crashes into Meteor. Clearly not enough Aerosmith was being played.)
  • Shoot SISTER LAY (That's illegal in most states. Also, it's the Sister Ray at Midgar.)

Fat Man

Mister Tubby deals with Kalm.

"KARM TOWN" Page 1: (Areas in Kalm Town.)

  • Cancel (Cancels out.)
  • First come (Lets you make a party, then drops you off at Kalm.)
  • After armagedon (Opens Page 2.)

Page 2: "Check oldman's event?"

  • Yes (Go to Page 3.)
  • No (Go straight to Kalm after Sephiroth summons Meteor.)

Page 3: (Get items to bring to the traveler.)

  • get GUIDE BOOK (Gives you the Guide Book and brings up Page 3 again.)
  • get DESERT ROSE (Gives you the Desert Rose and brings up Page 3 again.)
  • get EARTH HARP (Gives you the Earth Harp and brings up Page 3 again.)
  • event start (Drops you off at Disc 2 Kalm Town with those items.)

Rude

That other guy!

"SOUTH DUNGEON"

Page 1: (Mythril Mine)

  • Cancel (Cancels out.)
  • Meet TARCKS (Go to Page 2. Also, TARCKS? Seriously?)
  • We can't go (Dumps you at the Mythril Mine's entrance.)

Page 2: "Join AERITH?"

  • Yes (Go to the meeting with the Turks. Aeris is in the team.)
  • No (Go to the meeting with the Turks. Aeris isn't in the team.)

Sailor

This guy deals with gimmicky stuff as well as the final areas.

"ANOTHER CHECK"

Page 1:

  • Last Dungeon (Opens Page 2.)
  • HIGHWAY minigame (Play the motorbike minigame as if you were escaping from the Shinra Building.)
  • Shinra AirShip (Sends you to the Sunken Gelnika plane. Interestingly, if you try and leave but don't have a sub, you'll appear underwater piloting, of all things, the Key of the Ancients! You can even sail over land with it, too. The Gelnika and Emerald Weapon don't seem to show up, though, so it's just a novelty.)

Page 2: (Party select screen comes up after all the choices.)

  • join YUFI (Adds Yuffie to the team, and brings up Page 3.)
  • join VINCENT (Adds Vincent to the team, and brings up Page 3.)
  • join BOTH (Adds both of those jerks to the team, and brings up Page 3.)
  • join cancel (Brings up Page 3.)

Page 3: "SAVE CRYSTAL......"

  • Give 99!! (Gives you 99 Save Crystals, then drops you off at the North Cave. Why, thank you!)
  • No need (Sends you to the North Cave.)

Aeris

She handles a few of her own events!

  • Decline Church (Back room of Aeris's church, being chased by Shinra and the Turks.)
  • Forgotten Relm (First scene of Corral Valley.)
  • Go to NorthLand (Scene just after fighting Jenova LIFE. End of Disc 1.)

Shera

Cid's abused spouse handles Cid things. Natch.

"ROCKET VILLAGE" Page 1:

  • Meet CID (Go to Page 2.)
  • METEO intercept (Rocket Town Disc 2, just before the launch.)
  • Rocket at Space (Inside the rocket, just after blastoff.)

Page 2: "SETUP DEBUG STATUS"

  • DEBUG mode (Team select, then sends you to Rocket Town just before meeting Cid.)
  • NORMAL mode (See above.)
  • CD Emulator Check (Unselectable. Presumably something to do with fancy development hardware.)

According to the Japanese version, page 2 is supposed to ask you about jumping to an event where you're gazing at the rocket. The translators have left it blank, though, so the game glitches and instead jumps to the next dialogue box, which happens to be an unused debug message. As the original Japanese only gives you the choice of "Go" and "Don't go" with scripting for just two options, the game doesn't even know what to do with the third option.

Miner

This guy handles Gongaga Village!

"GONGAGA VILLAGE"

  • Cancel (Cancels out.)
  • Meet TARCKS (Village entrance, meeting the Turks.)
  • Who am I? (Scene at the Inn, after the Temple of the Ancients.)

Red Shinra Soldier

  • Cancel (Cancels out.)
  • Tunnel (Go to Menu 2.)
  • 5th Reactor (Sector 5 reactor, out on the bridge before the Airbuster battle.)

Menu 2: "LEVEL of TORIYAMA EVENT"

  • Perfect! - (Train tunnel. One screen away from the reactor.)
  • Normal - (Train tunnel. Three screens away from the reactor.)
  • Oh, NO!! - (Train tunnel. Five screens away from the reactor.)

Room Five (千 chi) - Hiroki Chiba's Room

FF7Debug-Room5.png

In this room, Cloud is holding his sword for some reason. One cool feature here is that you can hit ◻ to change the options people give you. Press it once to get the message "2P" and the alternate options. Press it again for the message "1P" and the normal options.

This is a pretty nice room! The southernmost Yuffie has some of the best commands, letting you get tons of items, more Gil than you'll ever need, and your choice of Gold Saucer date! You can also play some Gold Saucer games, watch some FMVs, and even get your Namingway on.

Mr. Chiba was another one of the Event Planners on the game. He also planned the Chocobo Race part, hence the Chocobo debugging options.

  • meteo3 (Same as above, but skips the close-up of Cosmo Canyon.)
  • yame (Cancels.)

Room Seven (吉 yoshi) - Kazuhiko Yoshioka's Room

FF7Debug-Room7.png

This here's a fun room. You can play the Fort Condor minigames, and Tifa has some fun options like giving you all the items (ALL OF THEM. ALL THE ITEMS.) and the chance to punch up some more innocent pyramids. Yuffie has a cool and extremely comprehensive FMV player, too.

Tifa

She says nothing, and all her options have no text,

  • <1> (300 Gil, no questions asked.)
  • <2> (Gives you 131072 Gil.)
  • <3> (Gives you 99 of *every* item in the game, and fills up your Materia screen.)
  • <4> (Battle with 5 "êúô(ñ)" pyramids. Same as "BATTLE999" in the lobby.)
  • <5> (Removes all items, key items, Materia, and team members. Resets the clock, and enables all commands.)
  • <6> (Deactivate battles.)
  • <7> (Activate battles.)
  • <8> (Cancels out.)

Aeris

Aeris deals with the Wall Market.

  • MRKT1 (The Wall Market, before visiting Corneo.)
  • MRKT2(After) (The Wall Market, when you first arrive.)
  • MRKT2(Before) (The Wall Market, after Sector 7 is destroyed.)
  • Cancel (Cancels out.)

Miner

This guy also has blank options (presumably whoever used this room didn't write English strings when localizing...), but he deals with Fort Condor. Each time you choose one of the blank spots, a menu with three more blank spots and "cancel" appears.)

"CONDOR"

  • <1>
    • <1> (Ft. Condor when you first arrive in Disc 1.)
    • <2> (Same as above, only Tifa is the leader.)
    • <3> (Same as above, only Cid is the leader.)
    • cancel (Same as above, only with current leader. Doesn't cancel.)
  • <2>

    • <2> (Same as above, only Tifa is the leader.)
    • <3> (Same as above, only Cid is the leader.)
    • cancel (Same as above, only with current leader. Doesn't cancel.)
  • <7> (Ft. Condor a little bit after the last battle.)
  • <8> (Ft. Condor before a battle.)
  • <9> (??? ... Probably a flag of some kind.)
  • <10> (Cancels out.)

Cait Sith

That plush toy's a spy! And he deals with the Shiny Golden Wire of Hope(tm).

  • WCRIMB1 (Near the swinging bar at the top of the first section of the wire climb event.)

  • <Blank Spot 3> (Entrance of the Great Glacier.)
  • <Blank Spot 4> (Entrance of the Great Glacier.)

  • HYOU13-1(After) (The cave where you get Alexander Materia. You haven't touched the Hot Springs.)

Reeve

Talking to this dude starts up the "Shinra Death" music, and brings up some choices relating to Rufus and co.'s actions during Diamond Weapon's attack on Midgar. The FMV scenes shown here can cause the game to hang if you're not using Disc 2.

  • 1 (Scene at the Shinra Building where Rufus, Heidegger, Scarlet, and Reeve discuss using the Mako cannon (or as Scarlet names it, the Sister Ray) on Sephiroth. After the scene, you're dropped off at the City of the Ancients, near the waterfall.)
  • 2 (Rufus and company prepare to fire the Sister Ray.)
  • 3 (Diamond Weapon has been defeated, but its shots are heading for Midgar! FMV here differs depending on the disc you're using. Following the FMV, you're back on the Highwind ready to attack Midgar yourselves!)
  • last0-3 (Entrance of the Northern Crater.)
  • cancel (Cancels out.)

Red XIII

Red here phones in a couple of Train Graveyard options.

"Train Grave"

  • MDS7ST2 (Second section of the Train Graveyard.)
  • MDS7ST1 (First section of the Train Graveyard.)
  • Cancel (Cancels out.)

Cid

Talking to Cid brings up an immediate fight against CMD. Grand Horn, so be ready! After that mess is cleaned up, you get three options involving the Wall Market events.

  • Man (The Gym at the Wall Market, for playing the 'squat' minigame.)
  • Be Girl (Sends you to the Wall Market as "Miss Cloud", and gives you several of the 'dress-up' Key items. However, if you go to Corneo's mansion, Cloud reverts to normal. You're stuck here...)
  • cancel (Cancels out.)

Wrestler

This list lets you play the RTS minigame at Fort Condor.

  • 1 (Play the first battle at Ft. Condor.)
  • 2 (Play the second battle at Ft. Condor.)

  • 6 (Play the sixth battle at Ft. Condor.)
  • last (Play the last battle at Ft. Condor. (Huge Materia Quest))
  • cancel (Cancels out.)

Yuffie

Today, the role of Yuffie will be played by an FMV player.

"20 movie" (Note the number Yuffie says - that's the number of the movie you'll play.)

  • look (Plays FMV based on number at the top of the screen.)
  • plus (Adds one to the movie number.)
  • cancel '(Cancels out.)

Room Eight (京 kyo) - Hideshi Kyonen's Room

FF7Debug-Room8.png

Dullsville. Mostly warps to various areas of the game, though thankfully few of them result in you getting stuck. You can play the snowboarding minigame here, though, and Priscilla can permanently remove members from your party, if for some unfathomable reason you wanted to do that.

Barret

Another day, another party changer.

"Who do you want in the party?"

  • Tifa (Adds Tifa to the team.)
  • Ballet (Adds Barret to the team.)
  • Earith (Adds Aeris to the team.)
  • Red (Adds Red XIII to the team.)
  • Cid (Adds Cid to the team.)
  • Yufi (Adds Yuffie to the team.)
  • Ketcy (Adds Cait Sith to the team.)
  • Vince (Adds Vincent to the team.)
  • Put Cid on point (Makes Cid the party leader.)
  • Forget it. (DOESN'T cancel out - it makes Tifa the party leader instead.)

Tifa

Tifa here deals with North Corel.

"Going to north Corel.
It doesn't matter whether or not
Ballet is in this event."

  • Ballet of north Corel (Arrival at Corel.)
  • ropeway (Barret's flashback of Corel at the ropeway station leading to the Gold Saucer.)
  • North Corel (North Corel destroyed by the train.)
  • quit (Cancels.)

Woman with Red Pants

This lady brings up a list of options. These will seem to do nothing, but they actually set up various plot flags. You'll have to leave the debug room and head to those areas to see the results. This can be very hard or impossible if you're on Disc 1, but if you're on Disc 2 or 3 and have a Gold Chocobo, it's pretty easy.

  • Palmer (Sets up a flag. This probably has to do with Palmer, while he's stealing the Tiny Bronco, as I checked Rocket Town after choosing this option, and Shera was blocking the door to the yard where the Tiny Bronco is. She ignored me, however... Maybe it was because I was using Disc 3?)
  • Highwind (Gives you the Highwind, and resets all events to right after you get it.)
  • Materia mission (???)
  • Cloud's revival (???)
  • Rocket launch (???)
  • Sister Ray (???)
  • Train success (???)
  • Train failure (???)
  • Train last (???)
  • quit (DOESN'T cancel out - it sends you to North Corel after the train event as if you had won. The lead character is invisible, and you can't leave town. You're stuck here. FUN!)

Aeris

No options here! Aeris sends you straight to the Great Glacier snowboarding minigame (not the Gold Saucer one). Afterwards, you're dropped off at Great Glacier, and the game crashes if you try to leave the screen.

"Snow board game."

Cid

No options here, either - Cid sends you straight to the Icicle Inn, before you meet with Elena.

"I'm sickle...xxxx
I mean...Icicle Inn.
...ok, bad joke."

Yuffie

Yuffie deals with the attack on Midgar.

"Hydroplane event"

  • Deck no. 1 (Hangs the game. We're off to a good start here, folks.)
  • parachute deck (Outside of the Highwind, ready to parachute into Midgar.)
  • bridge no. 1 (Scene onboard the Highwind after Sephiroth's barrier is destroyed.)
  • bridge no. 2 (Scene on the Highwind. Hojo prepares to fire the Sister Ray again.)
  • bridge no. 3 (Third scene on the Highwind. After Reeve is arrested.)
  • conference room 1 (First meeting at Shinra HQ, where Rufus and the other Shinra officials discuss gathering the imaginatively-named Huge Materia.)
  • conference room 2 (Scene at Shinra HQ after Rufus' death. The Mako output for the Sister Ray is increasing. Hojo plans to fire it again, even though it may destroy Midgar!)
  • conference room 3 (In Shinra HQ. Reeve gets captured when he tries to stop Scarlet and Heidegger from interfering with Cloud and the others' plans to stop Hojo...)
  • send-off people (Scene just before the team parachutes down into Midgar.)
  • quit (Cancels out.)

Man in Blue Shirt and Black Pants

Up for some rock climbing? This guy deals with Gaea's Cliff.

"Gaea's cliff test"

  • Gaea's cliff no. 1 (First climb up the side of the cliff.)
  • Gaea's cliff no. 2 (Second climbing sequence.)
  • Gaea's cliff 1 of 3 (Third climbing sequence.)
  • Gaea's cliff 2 of 3 (At the top of the cliff, about to go to the crater.)
  • Base of Gaea's cliff (The base of the cliff. Near Holzoff's house.)
  • quit (Cancels out.)

Red XIII

Back to Junon!

"Where are you going underneath Junon?"

  • Under Junon 1 (Lower Junon village.)
  • There'll be monsters (Beach in lower Junon.)
  • Dolphin jump (Dolphin jump scene, but you don't seem to have the whistle. If you get out of the water, Priscilla isn't there, so you can't get back in.)
  • Artificial Respiration (Scene where you have to give Priscilla CPR.)
  • quit (Cancels out.)

Man in Blue Shirt and Brown Pants

MORE Gaea's Cliff!

  • Crater no. 1 (First area of the crater at Gaea's cliff.)
  • Whirlwind Maze no. 1 (This is an odd one. It's the scene after you beat Jenova-DEATH and reclaim the Black Materia. Afterwards, though, you end up in a fight... with Jenova-DEATH!)
  • Whirlwind Maze no. 2 (First section of the maze area.)
  • Atmospheric Barrier no. 1 (First wind barrier.)
  • Atmospheric Barrier no. 2 (Second wind barrier.)
  • Atmospheric Barrier no. 3 (Third wind barrier.)
  • quit (Cancels out.)

Priscilla

A slightly less refined party organiser. This lets you add everyone to your global party, then remove the ones you don't want. (Brings up a list of options referring to team members.)

  • all members (Adds all members to your global party.)
  • quit (Cancels out.)
  • Without Yufi (Removes Yuffie from the global party.)
  • Without Vince (Removes Vincent from the global party.)
  • Without Ballet (Removes Barret from the global party.)
  • Without Tifa (Removes Tifa from the global party.)
  • Without Earith (Removes Aeris from the global party.)
  • Without Red (Removes Red XIII from the global party.)
  • Without Cid (Removes Cid from the global party.)
  • Without Ketcy (Removes Cait Sith from the global party.)

Room Nine (top) - Takashi Tokita's Room

FF7Debug-Room9.png

This room sucks. Most of the warps trap you in walls, and the useful-sounding options aren't.

Entering this room changes the music to "Holding My Thoughts in My Heart" and sets every party member except Cloud's name to blank.

Save Point

A normal, run-of-the-mill save point. It doesn't even rant at you about vidcons, it just lets you save your game without a fuss.

Don't, though - this place sucks and you can't get out.

Barret

Once again, Barret's a jerk - he has the one potentially fun tool in this room, but it's not useful at all!

"Materia max"

  • yes (Game hangs for a second as it fills up your Materia list with Bahamut Materias and nothing but.)
  • no (Cancels out.)

Aeris

Just a quick leader-changer.

"player change"

  • cloud (Makes Cloud the leader.)
  • tifa (Makes Tifa the leader.)
  • cid (Makes Cid the leader.)
  • cancel (Cancels out.)

Yuffie

Yuffie deals with the Wutai and Da-chao statues events.

  • cancel (Cancels out.)
  • turcks union (Sets a flag that makes the Turks appear in the below scenes at Da-chao.)
  • DATIAO 1 (First section of the Da-chao statues. Stuck and can't move!)
  • DATIAO 2 (First left path of Da-chao. Stuck and can't move!)
  • DATIAO 3 (Farthest left dead end at Da-chao. Stuck and can't move!)
  • DATIAO 4 (Farthest right dead end at Da-chao. Stuck and can't move!)
  • DATIAO 5 (Second left path of Da-chao. Stuck and can't move!)
  • DATIAO 6 (Dead end where you meet Corneo. Stuck and can't move!)
  • DATIAO 7 (Northernmost dead end. Stuck and can't move!)
  • DATIAO 8 (Da-chao fire cave. Stuck and can't move!)
  • 5TOWER (Leads to the bottom floor of the Wutai pagoda.)

Woman

Another list of warps. These mostly have to do with the Midgar raid at the end of Disc 2, or the train chase at North Corel.

Page 1:

  • Quit (Cancels out.)
  • next page (Brings up page 2.)
  • BLACKBGH (An empty, pitch black room with no visible exit and no debug stuff. I told you this room sucked.)
  • BLACKBGI (The corner of this debug room. WHY?)
  • TUNNEL 6 (A scrambled screen. Go south and you'll be in the Midgar rail tunnel from the raid on Disc 2. The graphics are still *really* screwed up, though, and the area is unstable.)
  • MD8 6 (Back alley, before raid on Midgar in Disc 2. Stuck and can't move!)
  • MD8 B1 (First area during Disc 2 Midgar raid - Upper screen. Stuck and can't move!)
  • MD8 B2 (First area during Disc 2 Midgar raid - Lower screen. Stuck and can't move!)
  • MD8 32 (At the base of the stairs leading to the Sister Ray. Stuck and can't move!)
  • MD8 BRDG2 (North exit of the train tunnel, where you fight Proud Clod. Stuck and can't move!)
  • TUNNEL 4 (Part of the train tunnel. You appear to be stuck behind a closed door, but walk to the end of the tunnel to get out...)
  • TUNNEL 5 (Another part of the train tunnel. Stuck and can't move!)

Page 2:

  • pre page (Brings page 1 back.)
  • CANON 1 (The staircase leading to the Sister Ray in Midgar. Stuck and can't move!)
  • CANON 2 (Scene with Hojo at the Sister Ray just before the raid on Midgar, followed by the scene of the team on the airship, and the remaining Shinra officials. After the events, you end up outside Ft. Condor.)
  • MTCRL 2 (The reactor on Mt. Corel, just before the train departs.)
  • ZCOAL 1 (On the train that Cid steals, trying to catch up with the Shinra train. If Cid isn't the leader, you can't do anything.)
  • ZCOAL 2 (On the back of the Shinra Train. However, the timer starts at 00:00, so you automatically lose, and the train crashes into North Corel.)
  • ZCOAL 3 (At the engine of the Shinra Train. Again, the timer starts at 00:00, but for some reason the train won't crash.)
  • 4SBWY 22 (Yep, back to the raid at Midgar in Disc 2. This one brings you to the air duct leading to the train tunnel. This, however, leads to a scrambled mess.)

Red XIII

Yet another broken warp list, this time referring to the undersea Mako reactor in Junon.

  • cancel (Cancels out.)
  • SPGATE (Gate leading to the underwater tunnel in Junon. Stuck and can't move!)
  • SPIPE 1 (First part of the underwater tunnel.)
  • SPIPE 2 (Second part of underwater tunnel, near door to reactor. Stuck and can't move!)
  • SEMKIN 1 (Inside the underwater elevator leading to the reactor. Stuck and can't move!)
  • SEMKIN 2 (Upper bridge inside the reactor overlooking the two subs. Stuck and can't move!)
  • SEMKIN 8 (The hall with a save point leading to the main reactor. You appear to be stuck, but move left or right to get free.)
  • SEMKIN 3 (Main hall of the reactor. Stuck and can't move!)
  • SEMKIN 4 (Bridge overlooking the Mako Reactor where the Materia is. Stuck and can't move!)
  • SEMKIN 5 (Scene where the Huge Materia is loaded on the submarine. Stuck and can't move!)
  • SEMKIN 6 (In the sub dock. The red submarine is gone. Stuck and can't move!)
  • SEMKIN 7 (Sub dock, near the grey submarine. Stuck and can't move!)

Vincent

VINCENT MAKE PARTIES. VINCENT MAKE FIRE WITH STICKS UGG.

"pary make"

  • ballet (Adds Barret to the team.)

  • earith (Adds Aeris to the team.)

Cait Sith

MORE broken warps! It's my birthday AND Christmas at the same time! This time we're talking the final dungeon.

  • cancel (Cancels out.)
  • LAS2 1 (Last dungeon; second fork in the road. Crashes game if you leave the screen.)
  • LAS2 2 (Last Dungeon; first screen in 'swamp' area.)
  • LAS2 3 (Second screen of 'swamp' area. Stuck and can't move!)
  • LAS2 4 (Forested area with shining pit. Stuck and can't move!)

  • LAS0 7 (Caves in ledge maze. Stuck and can't move!)
  • LAS0 8 (First set of crossroads. Stuck and can't move!)
  • MOGU 1 (Play the Mog House minigame! When it ends, you'll be at the Gold Saucer.)

Room Ten (bottom) - Masato Kato's Room

FF7Debug-Room10.png

This room is just plain crazy. There's nothing here you won't find in other rooms, but it's much more fun this way.

Entering this room TRIES to append things to the names of each character (so, for example, Cloud becomes Cloudster) but it doesn't work properly (so Cloud just gets renamed to "ster"). Also, Electric De Chocobo is playing.

Mr. Kato helped out the Field team on FF7, and was the director and writer on Chrono Cross.

Room Entry

As soon as you enter this room, you'll be given two choices:

Page 1:

  • For those in a hurry (Brings up page 2.)
  • For those with a little time (Cancels out and lets you explore the room.)

Page 2: (Mideel Areas)

  • Where to? (Mideel Hospital, when Tifa finds Cloud.)
  • To Mideel by the sea! (Same as above.)
  • To the Mideel Clinic! (Hangs the game.)
  • To the Mideel Talk Event! (Inside the Clinic after Tifa leaves.)
  • To the Clinic Attack Event! (Destruction of Mideel.)
  • To the Lifestream! (Cloud and Tifa fall in the Lifestream.)
  • To the Mindzone! (Start of Cloud's Lifestream dream...)
  • To the Spirit World! (After Nibelheim flashback.)
  • To Spirit World2! (After Nibelheim well flashback.)
  • To Spirit World3! (After Tifa's bedroom flashback.)
  • To Spirit World again! (After second Nibelheim flashback.)
  • Last time to the Spirit World! (Mideel, after it's been destroyed.)
  • To Mideel after it fell! (Ultimate Weapon attacks Mideel.)
  • Hold it, I need a break! (Unselectable.)

Aeriszilla

One thing you might notice about Aeris in this room is that she's freaking huge. She'll let you warp places in a similar way to the entry menu, shortly before venturing off to attack Midgar.

When you first talk to her, she'll say...
"Hello there, wanna be-hero.
You ready for your journey?"

If you talk to her again, she'll say...
"How about it? Have you made up your mind?
Mind boggling adventures a you."

Either way, this menu page appears.

"So? where to?" (Mideel Events)

  • To Mideel (Leads to Mideel town. Lead character is invisible. Crashes game.)
  • To Mideel Clinic! (Mideel Hospital, when Tifa finds Cloud. Tifa is invisible.)
  • To the Mideel Talk Event! (Hangs the game.)
  • To the Attack Event! (Inside the Clinic after Tifa leaves. Lead character is invisible. Crashes game.)
  • To the Lifestream! (Mideel, after it's been destroyed. Lead character is invisible. Crashes game.)
  • To the Mindzone! (Cloud and Tifa fall in the Lifestream.)
  • To the Spirit World! (After Nibelheim flashback.)
  • To Spirit World2! (After Nibelheim well flashback.)
  • To Spirit World3! (After Tifa's bedroom flashback.)
  • To the Spirit World again! (Mideel, after it's been destroyed. Lead character is invisible. Crashes game.)
  • To Mideel after it fell! (After second Nibelheim flashback.)
  • To Hades! (A very good point is made, and you cancel out of the menu.)

Doctor

Doc here deals with some plot flags.

"Take down a flag?"

  • Mideel (???)
  • Ionia (???)
  • Materia (???)
  • To the dark hill (Scene on a hill where Cloud and Tifa are 'sleeping'.)
  • To the light hill (The awkward, hungover morning after.)
  • <Hidden Choice> (Brings you to the Highwind, right after you get it. Tifa is missing, so the game hangs when she has to talk.)

Nurse

A party sorter. Yup.

"Who're you going with?"

  • I'm starting over (Adds Aeris to the party. Removes all other members. I think Kato really liked Aeris, just a little.)
  • ster (Adds Cloudster to the party.)
  • Princess (Adds Princess Aeris to the party.)
  • lonia (Adds Tifalonia to the party.)
  • alator (Adds Barretalator to the party.)
  • Little (Adds Little Yuffie to the party.)
  • Red XIII (Adds Red XIII to the party.)
  • Cait Sith (Adds Cait Sith to the party.)
  • Ol' (Adds Ol' Cid to the party.)
  • <Blank Spot> (Adds Sephiroth to the party. This is meant to add Vincent, who shares his slot in the game's data with Sephiroth, but if done before recruiting him, won't function properly.)

Here's a fun little trick. Choose "I'm starting over", followed by "Princess". You'll be stuck in the room, but you'll be able to control the giant Aeris in this room! More of a novelty than anything, but hey, it's still fun.

Talking Floor

Ahh, the follies of overworked programmers. The floor near Aeris is sentient, and will express concerns if you stumble near...

"Huh? You're not thinking of... stepping on me, are you?
I may be a floor but that don't give you the right!!"

Calling its bluff causes a very loud sound effect to play, with an appropriate response...

"Eyaaaah!! OWW, OWW, OWW...... YEOOWWW......!!"

This means absolutely nothing.

Region Differences

Whaaaa? Regional changes to the debug screens?

Battle Background

The test battle in the original Japanese release of FF7 (and some demo releases, like the PlayStation Underground disc) has a proper background, exclusive to that fight, and actual models for the enemies (recycled from other enemies, of course.) The US and JP International versions (including the PC version) use a plain black background and simple yellow pyramid models for the enemies. Note that if you kill the enemy furthest in the back, the battle will end automatically, but in the original JP version it'll cast Bolt 3 on everyone else, compared to other versions where the battle simply ends, because the name/animation data for Bolt 3 on the enemies is missing.

Text Differences

Hmmm...
To do:
Document different text in JP International, or else I'll stuff your stomach with shaved bonito and feed you to a cat! Here it all be.

Old Broken Leftover

There is an extra glitched, unfinished, unused debug room in the original Japanese release. It's clearly a leftover from an earlier build of the game, and doesn't quite run right in the final code. Cloud is invisible, text is glitchy due to being done with an older version of the text encoding, and a messed up version of Aeris' Theme plays.

This was removed from the US and JP International versions of the game, of course.
