Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn/Unused Music

From The Cutting Room Floor
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This is a sub-page of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.

Radiant Dawn contains a whopping 172 music tracks on its ISO, yet at least a third of them are unused. Most of these are alternate versions of existing tracks. There are some instances where an alternate track of an existing track is used in-game (discussed in the Notes page), particularly event themes. It seems more of these were originally planned to be used in the main game, or perhaps the developers simply picked out the versions they preferred to use in the final game.

Unused Entirely

Filename Music Notes
fe10_fe_theme_E3_32k.brstm
A variant of the Fire Emblem theme, likely intended for the title screen theme. The file name indicates it was for use at E3, though it does not play in the E3 trailer.
fe10_bgm_mapextra_32k.brstm
A remix of Alm's victory map theme from Fire Emblem Gaiden. Path of Radiance similarly used a remix of Chapter 10 map's theme from Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War as a trial map theme, and since that remix used the filename gcfe_bgm_map_ext_32k.stm in that game (note the ext), it's reasonable to assume trial maps were once planned to return in this game.
fe10_bgm_map_extra_32k.brstm
fe10_bgm_map_win1_32k.brstm
An updated version of the victory map theme from Path of Radiance. That game was the last Fire Emblem title to use such a theme (excluding Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem) despite only using it for two maps, yet it seems it was planned to be reused in Radiant Dawn at one point. A shame, really.
fe10_bgm_btl_cp04_32k.brstm
Three versions of an unused enemy battle theme.
fe10_bgm_btl_cp4_32k.brstm
fe10_btl_cp04_32k.brstm
fe10_bgm_btl_pl_wm1_32k.brstm
Unused player and enemy battle themes respectively. Given their simple composition and instrumentation, these might be placeholders. They are also unique in having wm1 in their filenames - it is unknown what this stands for.
fe10_bgm_btl_cp_wm1_32k.brstm
fe10_bgm_btl_boss3_32k.brstm
An unused boss battle theme.
fe10_bgm_evt_desert_32k.brstm
An unused desert event theme.
fe10_bgm_evt_meet1_32k.brstm
Likely an unused recruitment theme, seeing as the used track's filename is fe10_bgm_evt_meet2_32k.brstm.
fe10_bgm_evt_mist1_32k.brstm
Mist's theme from Path of Radiance, updated for Radiant Dawn but never used in-game.
fe10_bgm_evt_naesala_32k.brstm
Naesala's updated theme from Path of Radiance. While he is a major character and has his own battle theme, his personal theme is surprisingly never used.
fe10_bgm_evt_naesala1_32k.brstm
fe10_bgm_evt_tibarn_32k.brstm
Tibarn's theme is similarly unused.
fe10_bgm_evt_tibarn1_32k.brstm
fe10_bgm_sys_1_32k.brstm
Likely an unused preparations theme, seeing as the used preparations themes are fe10_bgm_sys_select2_32k.brstm and fe10_bgm_sys_select4_32k.brstm.
fe10_bgm_sys_select1_32k.brstm
fe10_bgm_sys_kyoten_32k.brstm
"Kyoten" (拠点) translates to "base", so this is likely an unused base theme.

Alternate Tracks

Hmmm...
To do:
  • Some of these seem to be used in game (particularly event themes), but the "version used" is what's heard in the sound test - document which ones are in the Notes page, and remove them from here.
  • Rip the opening movie's music - the movies are stored as video files, so they'll have to be taken from those.

Sigh, the developers didn't bother to remove these.

Unused Fanfares

fanfare.32.brstm

The race-start theme from Mario Kart: Double Dash!!. Likely a very early placeholder for the phase-start themes.

fe10_bgm_phase17_32K.brstm
fe10_bgm_phase19_32K.brstm

Unused phase-start themes. Given the diverse instrumentation of these and the used themes, it's difficult to guess where they could be used. They are most likely player or NPC phase themes.

Miscellaneous

fe10_bgm_btl_zelgius1_32k.brstm

Zelgius's battle theme, "The Strong", is used in-game during certain cinematic events but is never played in full. The track may be played in the Sound Room, however.

DUMMY.brstm
There is also a dummy file consisting of one second of silence.
