The first in a long series of Formula One releases for the PlayStation. This release contains some unique features such as including alcohol sponsors in the European release, all drivers that raced in the 1995 season and for the first time Murray Walker providing commentary (possibly a first in sports video games).

Unused Audio
A menu narration by Murray Walker is present in the game. This is never used and contains references to features not present such as Split Screen and Tag Mode.
The in-game commentary tracks also contain many references to features not present in the game, such as warning flags and penalties. Whilst some of this commentary can be heard by enabling the "Gibberish Mode" cheat, some of it would also be used in the sequel, Formula 1 '97.
European Platinum Edition release
A Platinum Edition of Formula 1 was released in Europe. This release most notably removes the Marlboro chevrons seen around the tracks but retains the blocks that were censoring the Marlboro text; also in what was likely forgotten during development, a fully uncensored Marlboro logo could be seen looking backwards when exiting the tunnel at Monaco was also removed. Interestingly, tobacco sponsors remain uncensored in the driver select screen.
Title screen
The Platinum Edition title screen is changed slightly, removing the text relating to licensing and a drop shadow added to Formula 1.
