Gran Turismo 5/GT Mode/Unused Event Races

This is a sub-page of Gran Turismo 5/GT Mode.

Both A-Spec and B-Spec modes have the same 45 race events, nine in each series, with different regulations and gameplay on the B-Spec side of the spectrum. However, it turns out that the developers had planned for 12 events per series. Images and information regarding these events, including the parameters for these events, is present in the game's data files, but do not appear in the game at all otherwise.

Most of the event parameter files contain all data required for them to be utilized in-game. This includes parameters such as the courses per race, laps, rewards, rival cars, and even parameters such as weather control, boost modifiers, and other information. For the sake of reducing clutter, only the primary parameters for each event will be documented here. Also, A-Spec and B-Spec events will always pay out the same reward Credits, regardless of how many races there are per event, but the experience points value differs per race, and the value is different between the A-Spec and B-Spec versions of the races/events for the purpose of progression balancing. As such, the reward Credits amount will not be listed twice in the rewards tables below (unless it is actually different per race), so the following races after Race #1 will pay out the same reward Credits, but not the same experience points.

Note that items colored in red indicate that the information is not used according to what has been defined in the event's parameters, such as the number of cars including the player's that will be in the race, but are still defined within the code, and are being included for the sake of completeness in terms of documentation.

The classic endurance event from Gran Turismo 4 was going to return in this game...except it didn't. But what a surprise! Compared to the previous five cut events, this one actually has its own event flyer image! Unfortunately for the event parameter file, whose filename is "r611", it contains an incomplete version of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, an event that appears in the game and seemingly takes the spot of this event. Why it was cut, despite its event flyer image being present in the game's files, is unknown.

24 Hours of Le Mans II

  • Description: A 24-hour endurance race with a huge 6km-long straight.
  • Event Information: A 24-hour endurance race held on the 2009 layout of the Circuit de la Sarthe which has the chicane removed. Make the most of the 6km length of the Hunaudières straight.

A second version of an endurance Le Mans event, similar to as previously seen in Gran Turismo 4, but this one goes unused. As mentioned above, the event parameter file for Fuji 1000km contains an incomplete version of the parameters for this event, but the actual event parameters file, whose filename is "r614", it contains an incomplete version of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, an event that appears in the game. Like the previous cut event, this one also has its own event flyer image, too. Why it was cut, despite its event flyer image being present in the game's files, is unknown.

4 Hours of Daytona

  • Event Information: A 4-hour endurance race held on the Superspeedway at Daytona. As the track configuration is quite basic, good race strategy will be vital.

Our final cut endurance event, this one taking place at Daytona. Just like the previous cut event above, the event parameters file, whose filename is "r617", contains an incomplete version of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. Also like the previous cut event, this one has its own event flyer image, too. Why it was cut, despite its event flyer image being present in the game's files, is unknown.

Found at offset 00007FB8 of the GT Mode text descriptor file shows a different event information string for one of the cut events described above, Lightweight K Cup II, even sharing the same internal ID as it. Perhaps this is an event information string for the B-Spec version of the event?
