Gran Turismo 6/Events

From The Cutting Room Floor
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This is a sub-page of Gran Turismo 6.

From making a mad dash up the Goodwood Hillclimb to piloting a lunar rover on the moon, and all of the Coffee Breaks in-between: While this game doesn't have as many events as its predecessor, there's still some fun to be had. That being said, there's still some unused content to be found as well.

Endurance Races

GT6 gtmode endurance.png

Endurance races were meant to return for another round in Gran Turismo 6, but seeing as much of the gameplay became rather simplified with this title, these types of races were essentially moved to the Super License class in GT Mode, with the duration of the events being significantly reduced in length. The typical "endurance" event in this game usually consists of a length of no more than half an hour, so traditional endurance events (which usually take more than an hour to complete) that fans have enjoyed from all of the previous titles have unfortunately skipped this game.

Some leftover cache files of these planned endurance events can be found in the game's parameter data files. These are listed below:

  • apricot_1h
  • brands_3h
  • daytona_24h
  • leman_24h
  • lw_tsukuba_4h
  • motegi_5h
  • nur_24h
  • silverstone_6h
  • spa_24h
  • suzuka_1000km
  • vln_4h
  • willow_200mile

Of those, four of them (daytona_24h, lw_tsukuba_4h, motegi_5h, and vln_4h) do not have shortened counterparts in the Super License class, although daytona_24h had a shortened 24-minute race as a special Seasonal Event in January 2015, coinciding with the actual 24 Hours of Daytona event it was based.

Red Bull X Challenge

Returning from the previous game, the Red Bull X Challenge was officially introduced in Version 1.02 of the game, with the rest of the contents for the challenge being added in with Version 1.04. Contents on the base version of the game indicate that this content was nearly finished before release, but had to be postponed for further development leading up to the game's launch date. Version 1.01 snuck in some audio files related to the content as well, some of these being unused.

Icon

The icon for the Home screen of the content was different, quite possibly being a placeholder, before being touched up for Version 1.02. It can be found on the base version of the game's files, which would indicate that the event was nearly finished, but still in development by the time the game had shipped out.

Audio

Version 1.01 slipped in the audio data that is used with the game's challenges; even though the content wasn't available in Version 1.01, the audio files were added in, indicating that the content was nearly ready for launch until Version 1.02 was finally released. A majority of the audio files added in were used, but some of them went unused, some of them being different takes of the same line, and also radio chatter that was meant to playback in-race during gameplay. While there are recordings in both English and German, only the English recordings are uploaded here on this page.

Unused Alternate Takes

There are different recordings of the various lines of dialog that are displayed when progressing through the challenge. The column on the far right of the table indicates whether or not the audio file was used in the game, so a comparison can be made against the used and the unused audio clips.

Radio Chatter

There exists audio files for radio chatter dialog that was supposed to playback during gameplay...or wasn't? Ever wonder why some of these audio files sound suspiciously similar to the unused Jeff Gordon NASCAR School radio chatter from Gran Tuismo 5? It's because they were meant for that game in the first place! Specifically, these files were meant for the Sebastian Vettel X Challenge Special Event for Gran Turismo 5. So technically, these are leftovers from the previous game that didn't have these files left over to begin with.

Cutoffs

During the final part of the event, which is the Sebastian Vettel X Challenge, where you race alongside Vettel himself, there is spoken dialog where Vettel gives some background information and a bit of trivia on each of the three courses featured in the challenge. The very last line of dialog for two of the courses is cut off in the end. Playing back the audio file in full reveals that Vettel says "X1" at the end of these two lines, which would indicate that these audio files once again originated from Gran Turismo 5. This means that the developers have came full circle in terms of recycling content.

The bold text in the Transcription column indicates the part of the audio file that is cut off when the audio is played back in the game.

Sierra Time Rally

The Sierra Time Rally is a Special Event that takes place on Circuito de la Sierra, a course that was added alongside the Special Event and is the course in which the event takes place on. In the event, players race on the course to the quickest of their ability against the time limit to earn the highest score and finish with as much time remaining as possible, with bonuses being awarded to the player along the way for overtakes, jumps, and speed checkpoints. A multiplier builds up for each bonus accumulated, allowing the player to quickly increase their score, so long as they don't drive off of the course, collide into a wall, or make contact with one of the numerous other cars on the course.

While the Special Event and the course were both officially added in Version 1.12 of the game, some early data slipped into the game's files in Version 1.10 before it was overwritten with Version 1.12.

Early Sound Effects

The audio files contained in Version 1.10 have a different voice-over and sound effects compared to their final renditions. The early voice-over is deeper and more mono in tone, compared to the final rendition which has a brighter and more upbeat tone. Both the early and final renditions are on this page for the sake of comparison.

Unused Features/Bonuses

The Special Event originally had more bonuses, features, scripts, and scenarios planned that would take place during the course of gameplay. These were scrapped due to unknown circumstances, but evidence of these remains via audio files found in both Version 1.10 and Version 1.12 of the game.

Speed Trap

Early (V1.10) Final (V1.12)

A "speed trap" is defined as a zone which vehicles should limit their speed to comply with the posted speed limit, usually on a sign or other visual indicator. In the context of this Special Event, this could have been a bonus where the player must maintain a certain speed past a designated checkpoint to receive it. However, this could also simply be an alternative saying for the "Speed Bonus" bonus, but its exact definition is unknown since it was never used during the event.

Voice-over: "Give Way"

There were meant to be opponent cars present during gameplay that would be faster than the player's car, and the player was to be warned when a faster car was approaching. Giving way to said oncoming car and letting it overtake the player would then reward the player with a bonus. In the final version, the opponent cars travel at a significantly slower pace than the player's car, and instead are the ones to give way to the player as the player approaches them.

Drift Bonus

Early (V1.10) Final (V1.12) Description
None
Voice-over: "Nice Drift"

The player was originally meant to be rewarded for drifting during gameplay, but this was probably removed due to the cars that the player drives having soft tires, which would make drifting rather difficult.

Wrong Way

Early (V1.10) Final (V1.12) Description
None
Voice-over: "Wrong Way"

The voice-over was meant to notify the player if they were going the wrong way on the course. The voice-over is never heard, however.
