This cactus is UNDER CONSTRUCTION
This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.
Hmmm...
To do:
This needs to be expanded to encompass all the dialog files.

This is a sub-page of Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series (Windows).

The goal of this page currently is to catalog notable unused text (such as cut story content) and all developer messages. All unused text will be put on a future notes page.

Dialog Files

env_collectorshop_english.landb

The interior of the Collector's shop, which you go to whether you pick the Gamora or Rocket path.

env_hub_drax_english.landb

The Milano 'hub' file for all Drax interactions.

env_hub_gamora_english.landb

The Milano 'hub' file for all Gamora interactions.

env_hub_rocketgroot_english.landb

The Milano 'hub' file for all Rocket & Groot interactions.

env_lab_escape_english.landb

The escape sequence in the testing facility if you choose the Rocket path.

env_lab_experiments_english.landb

At some point in development there was a scene with Rocket and a scientist in the testing facility on the Rocket path. This entire file goes unused in the final game.

From the sound of the dialog files, it would start with a scientist (conveniently labeled "SCIENTIST") going to kill Rocket since "the director" has decided to terminate further experiments due to not finding success. Rocket could lash out at one point, given the developer text, and speaks up for the first time with a lengthy bit of dialog occurring. One choice would've been deciding whether or not to tell the scientist of Lylla could talk too, as the scientist was planning to terminate her anyway. The scientist has a change of heart after seeing that both of them speak and tries to get the project approved, at which point a drone demands for the project to be terminated and eventually kills the scientist. Lylla appears at the end despite never being 'initialized' at the top of the file. It is not known of the scientist mentioned is the same in the final game.

41) QQUESTION
(sainsworth, Tue Nov 22 15:19:53 2016) You can’t put a prompt on screen and expect people not to struggle. Remove these conditionals. Generally, I think we’re doing a lot of unecessary work here. I could see a beat where the scientist moves away for a bit, and we try to get out of the harness, but the constant struggling--especially coming off a beat where I may have suggested to not fight back--is stepping on the later choice. Maybe there’s a beat here where we pay off Lylla talking or fighting back by having the guy leave for a bit, and hearing what goes on in the next room while you try to escape? Does it make sense to give the player that information before they make the choice to talk? That their previous choice influences their current one?
49)
Don’t you dare touch her!
51)
Tests aren’t necessary.
54)
[ALT]Kiss my ass.
55)
Quid pro quo.
56)
We were protecting ourselves.
57)
So others wouldn’t suffer.
58) SCIENTIST
[frustrated; angry]Update... the procedure has been cancelled. The chairman has ordered a complete restart despite compelling arguments to halt this rash and shortsighted--
59) SCIENTIST
[frustrated]{NormalA}Subjects will be terminated immediately.
60) SCIENTIST
We will remove the neural implants post-mortem.
61) SCIENTIST
[Alt][depressed]{ConcernedA}No further assistance needed. Go prepare the other one for lethal injection while I finish up here.
62) SCIENTIST
{AngryA}[getting bitten]Gah!
63) SCIENTIST
Filthy vermin!
64) SCIENTIST
It’s not enough that you were a total failure, is it?
65) SCIENTIST
From birth to death you were always a disappointment!

69) SCIENTIST
{SurprisedA}What did you just say?
70) SCIENTIST
{ConcernedA}I must be losing my mind.
71) SCIENTIST
{SurprisedA}You... {ConfusedA}talked.
72) ROCKET_PAST
{AngryA}You don’t have to kill me. Your {FaceAccent}freakin’ experiments worked, all right?
73) SCIENTIST
[amazed laughter]{SurprisedA}You really can talk...{HappyA} you can understand me!

76) SCIENTIST
[amazed laughter]I can’t believe it!
78) ROCKET_PAST
{ConcernedA}You been {FaceAccent}hurtin’ us! Every. Single. Day. {AngryA}For {FaceAccent}YEARS.
79) SCIENTIST
[amazed]{ConfusedA}Stop? {AngryA}I can’t stop. It’s finally {HappyA}{FaceAccent}working! {ConcernedA}All these years of failure and now {SurprisedA}{FaceAccent}look at you! {FaceAccent}Talking!
81) SCIENTIST
{ConfusedA}No, no I’m {FaceAccent}sure of it. I heard you say {AngryA}“Don’t do this”.
82) SCIENTIST
You spoke to me.
83) SCIENTIST
It worked, didn’t it? The experiments!
86) SCIENTIST
Ah, what a brilliant mind can do. From your birth you were destined for greatness. And look at you now.
87) SCIENTIST
[as if Rocket can’t hear]You should have spoken sooner.
88) SCIENTIST
Why hide my success from me?
177) SCIENTIST
Why hide my success from me?
89) SCIENTIST
You should have said something.
90) ROCKET_PAST
{AngryA}Kiss my {FaceAccent}furry little ass.
91) SCIENTIST
{ConcernedA}Quite the vocabulary.
92) ROCKET_PAST
I didn’t want anyone else to suffer. If you knew, you’d bring in others.
93) SCIENTIST
Suffer? You were built for this. It is your purpose. You should be honored!
94) SCIENTIST
You should be honored!
95) ROCKET_PAST
I was trying to protect Lylla.
96) SCIENTIST
[intrigued]Lylla?
235) ROCKET_PAST
[fearing the worst]Lylla...
97) SCIENTIST
Oh, Subject 89P14... interesting that you’ve become so attached to her.
128) SCIENTIST
Oh, Subject 89P14... interesting that you’ve become so attached to her.
98) SCIENTIST
No matter. Your little secret is out. You can’t hide your progress any longer.
99)
You don’t need Lylla.
100)
Let Lylla go.
125) ROCKET_PAST
Let Lylla go.
211)
Let Lylla go!
213) ROCKET_PAST
{SternA}Let Lylla go.
101) SCIENTIST
[slightly sinister]This changes everything.
197) SCIENTIST
{SurprisedA}This changes {FaceAccent}everything.
102) ROCKET_PAST
So you’ll let us go?
103) SCIENTIST
[laughs]Oh I’m not letting you go.
104) SCIENTIST
[thinking out loud] {ConfusedA}I need to order more tests...{AngryA} continue my research!
105) SCIENTIST
One thing’s for sure. I’m never letting you out of my sight.
106) SCIENTIST
On you and your friend, Lylla.
107) SCIENTIST
You just stayed your own execution, my friend.
108) SCIENTIST
But in case there is any confusion let me make this abundantly clear...
109) SCIENTIST
On both of you.
110) SCIENTIST
{ConcernedA}You’re {BodyAccent}{FaceAccent}far too valuable now.
111) SCIENTIST
You are never getting out of here.
112) SCIENTIST
{ConfusedA}The boss will {FaceAccent}see that.
113) ROCKET_PAST
Wait, we can work somethin’ out, right?
114) ROCKET_PAST
Some sort of deal.
115) SCIENTIST
That’s adorable.
116) SCIENTIST
Thinking you’re in any sort of position to negotiate.
117) ROCKET_PAST
I’m gettin’ out of here whether you let me or not. The other way’ll just be more painful for you.
118) SCIENTIST
Your fighting spirit is rather charming.
119) SCIENTIST
Unfortunately for you it is not nearly as threatening as you’d hoped.
120) ROCKET_PAST
Wait, you don’t need Lylla to stay. You just need me.
121) SCIENTIST
You’re right.
122) ROCKET_PAST
I am?
129) ROCKET_PAST
I am?
123) SCIENTIST
We can put her down as planned.
130) SCIENTIST
We can put her down as planned.
124) ROCKET_PAST
Wait, you don’t need both of us. You just need me.
212) ROCKET_PAST
{AngryA}Wait, you don’t need{FaceAccent} both of us. {FearA}You just need{FaceAccent} me.
126) SCIENTIST
Lylla? [realizing] You mean subject 89P14?
127) SCIENTIST
You mean subject 89P14?
131) SCIENTIST
Maybe you’re right.
132) SCIENTIST
Come along 89P13.
134) SCIENTIST
Come along 89P13.
133) SCIENTIST
Keep quiet all you want. I’ll get you to talk one way or another.
135) SCIENTIST
I was hoping our conversation would be a little more interesting, but it seems you’ve lost your voice entirely.
137) SCIENTIST
You were born here, Subjects 89P13
138) SCIENTIST
[catching breath]You were born an animal, Subjects 89P13, and you will die one.
139) SCIENTIST
[catching breath; frustrated]If you would just speak! [beat]You could have been so much MORE.
141) SCIENTIST
[amazed laughter]{HappyA}My creation is calling me an {FaceAccent}idiot! Haha!
142) ROCKET_PAST
{FearA}Ya gotta {FaceAccent}STOP.
143)
To protect Lylla.
144) SCIENTIST
Play that back.
146) SCIENTIST
[to himself]{HappyA}It worked.
147) SCIENTIST
You’ve made progress, Subject 89P13... but there’s still so much to do.
148) SCIENTIST
[to the drone]Get the boss on the phone...
154) ROCKET_PAST
You can ask me whatever you want to know -- I’ll friggin’ sing for you if you want. You don’t need to keep testing.
157) SCIENTIST
You said don’t do it.
158) SCIENTIST
I heard you say “Don’t do this”.
161) SCIENTIST
[ALT][catching breath; frustrated]I thought you had such promise! I guess I was wrong.
162) SCIENTIST
[ALT][catching breath; frustrated]I wish you would’ve asked nicely.
163) SCIENTIST
[ALT][catching breath; frustrated]If only you could’ve opened your mouth and asked nicely.
164)
Yes, she talks.
165)
No, she can’t.
166)
She has a name!
167) SCIENTIST
The other one... can it talk too?
168) ROCKET_PAST
{FearA}{FaceAccent}Yes, she can talk. We {FaceAccent}both can.
169) SCIENTIST
Interesting that you’ve become so attached to her.
170) SCIENTIST
[intrigued]{SurprisedA}{FaceAccent}Lylla? [beat]{ConfusedA}You’ve given each other {FaceAccent}names?
214) SCIENTIST
[intrigued]{SurprisedA}{FaceAccent}Lylla? [beat]{ConfusedA}You’ve given each other {FaceAccent}names?
171) ROCKET_PAST
{AngryA}{FaceAccent}“It”? She has a {FaceAccent}name, ya know.{SternA} {FaceAccent}Lylla. {AngryA}Not {FaceAccent}“it”.
174) SCIENTIST
Fascinating.
175) ROCKET_PAST
{ConcernedA}No, she can’t talk. {FearA}{FaceAccent}I’m the only one.
176) SCIENTIST
I guess that makes you special then.
178) SCIENTIST
[frustrated; angry]{AngryA}Change of plans. The {FaceAccent}chairman has decided to {FaceAccent}scrap the project due to my {FaceAccent}so-called{FaceAccent} “failure”. He would not listen to reason and insisted on this shortsighted and {FaceAccent}foolish--
180) SCIENTIST
{ConfusedA}Does this mean... {ConcernedA}the other one... {SurprisedA}can it speak too?
185) SCIENTIST
{ConcernedA}What have I done?
186) SCIENTIST
[to the drone]{AngryA}Stop what you’re doing! {FaceAccent}Get in here!
188) SCIENTIST
{ConcernedA}Can’t believe I almost-- [killed you]
189) SCIENTIST
[awkward laugh]This is great.
191) SCIENTIST
{ConcernedA}Oh no.
192) SCIENTIST
{ConfusedA}{FaceAccent}Both of you?
193) SCIENTIST
{HappyA}I {FaceAccent}knew it was too soon to give up on you.
194) SCIENTIST
{ConfusedA}If I had {FaceAccent}known...
196) SCIENTIST
{ConcernedA}I almost...{ConfusedA} [killed you]
201) SCIENTIST
{FaceAccent}Now they’ll have to listen.
202)
I won’t let you do more tests!
203)
This is wrong!
204) ROCKET_PAST
{FearA}You have to {FaceAccent}stop this!{AngryA} Don’t you get it?
205) ROCKET_PAST
We’re not just your experiments. We’re {FaceAccent}people...{ThinkingA} or... {SurprisedA}whatever we are.
206) SCIENTIST
{ConcernedA}You’re {FaceAccent}right. I made you into something you were {BodyAccent}never supposed to be.
207) ROCKET_PAST
{ThinkingA}You wanna {FaceAccent}try, {SternA}go ahead! But I can promise{AngryA} it’ll be {FaceAccent}real painful for you.
208) ROCKET_PAST
{SurprisedA}No, the experiments {FearA}end now!
209) SCIENTIST
{SurprisedA}I {BodyAccent}didn’t realize-- {AngryA}{BodyAccent}no, of {FaceAccent}course you’d feel that way.
210) SCIENTIST
{ConcernedA}I {BodyAccent}won’t force you.
215) SCIENTIST
{ConfusedA}You want {FaceAccent}to leave...
218) SCIENTIST
{SurprisedA}He’ll {BodyAccent}change his {FaceAccent}mind.
219) SCIENTIST
{ConfusedA}{FaceAccent}Don’t be quiet now. {ConcernedA}They have to {FaceAccent}see... {AngryA}we have to {BodyAccent}convince them not to terminate the{FaceAccent} project.
221) SCIENTIST
{ConcernedA}Yes, {BodyAccent}call the boss immediately. {SurprisedA}He’s made a mistake.{HappyA} It {FaceAccent}{BodyAccent}worked, I--{ConcernedA}
222) DRONE
Decision is final. Failure to carry out the order will result in termination.
223) SCIENTIST
You aren’t listening!
224) DRONE
Failure to carry out the order will result in termination.
225) SCIENTIST
{AngryA}You’re {FaceAccent}not listening! {BodyAccent}He can {FaceAccent}speak!
226) ROCKET_PAST
Over here, dummy!
227) ROCKET_PAST
[breathless]Can’t believe that worked.
228) SCIENTIST
[Alt]Agh!!
229) DRONE
Report.
237) DRONE
Contain the subject!
238) DRONE
[robot battle cry]Ahhhhhh.
240) DRONE
Nooooo.
241) ROCKET_PAST
Nice.
242) LYLLA
Back at ya.
243) ROCKET_PAST
That should buy us some time.
246) ROCKET_PAST
That should buy us some time.
244) ROCKET_PAST
[pickup]We gotta move!

^^When I first met Rocket, I thought he was a greedy, twisted, little jerk. I still think all those things, but now I also know that underneath the misanthropic attitude and bad hygiene, he’s incredibly hardworking, wickedly funny, and kind of a genius. He’s the Milano-whisperer, (and I’d never tell him to his face) but he might also be one of the greatest tacticians in the galaxy.
