Unused Elusive Targets

"The Brothers" is an elusive target that never ran during this game for whatever reason, though the most logical reason is that it conflicted with the later-implemented story in the sequel, and also remains unused in the game's files of the other two games too. Curiously, they are among the targets referenced in the ICA Facility in the third game, which may be a mistake on the developers part.

These four Elusive Target contracts were re-implemented as a continuous four-part campaign; "Patient Zero", for the Game of the Year Edition DLC in 2017. These briefings can be found in the PS4 versions' files.

Some interesting things of note:

  • While most of the targets are unconnected to one another, Oybek Nabazov is mentioned as "related" in Owen Cage's briefing.
  • Half of the mission names are reused; "The Conditioner" and "The Doomsayer" are the outliers, which were changed to "The Source" and "The Vector" respectively. "The Conditioner" would later be reused in the third game's ICA Database files to describe Bradley Paine. They are also the missions with the most overhauls to the mission's design and theme. The former had you kill three other targets; Akram (who would be reused as a secondary target in "The Author"), Akmal, and Ansar. While the latter has you killing Bradley Paine, as well as any other militia member he helped, which'd require waiting for targets to appear. This was later changed to be a Sniping mission, where you had to kill four infected targets, plus Paine.
  • The Author in the final campaign is set at night, reusing the skybox settings from The Icon, instead of at sunset during Landslide.
  • All but "The Conditioner"'s briefings have their footage reused in some capacity in the Briefings for the final campaign.
  • The logo for the cult is completely different; instead of being a spiral, it is two circles interlocking one another.

Unused Elusive Target Videos

When the game first released, Elusive Targets were contracts that were around for a limited time in which you had a target, with the possibility of a related objective or two, and even more rarely, a restriction of some kind to deal with. These Elusive Targets appeared for a limited real-world amount of time, and couldn't be kill-able again. On November 8th, 2017, IO Interactive decided to reintroduce the Elusive Target's for those that missed them first time round, with the conditions of A: The same rules as above still apply and B: if you previously attempted the mission once, you can't kill them a second time. After completion, these introductory videos for Elusive targets go all but unused for most players. Some of these Elusive targets were re-activated in Hitman 2, and then again in Hitman 3. Due to legal issues between IO Interactive and Square Enix concerning image rights, the "Gary Busey" Elusive Target has remained completely unused for any rerun, and has never been repeated.
