Hoppin Mad was originally released for the Commodore 64 by Elite Systems in 1988. It was ported to the NES by three people, all of whom were Elite staff who had migrated to NMS Software.

The V in "Visuals", the A in "Audio", and the M in "Mark" are missing for unknown reasons. The game's title screen credits the developers without their respective roles.
