Kirby: Squeak Squad/Debug Rooms

From The Cutting Room Floor
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This is a sub-page of Kirby: Squeak Squad.

Kirby Squeak Squad has a relatively large number of unused rooms.

Hmmm...
To do:
Add more images and/or descriptions for any unused rooms.

While many of them have a clear testing purpose, some maps are not so easily explained. The very amount of unused rooms is unusual. Most of these rooms have the standard music (Track 00) playing, with some exceptions. Most of them use either the debug or the Level 1 tileset. The debug tilesets are only in the Japanese version of the game.

First Level

a1s1

a1s1s7
A mysterious room. Smallest playable map file in the game.

KirbySS a1s1s7.png

a1s1s8
Presumably a kind of squeak room. Crashes easily.

a1s6

a1s6s13 to a1s6s43
Empty map files, only part of the header remains.

a1s7

a1s7s3 to a1s7s8
Squeak rooms.

a1s8

a1s8s1
7 doors in a small hub using the main Level 1 tileset.

a1s8s2 to a1s8s13
Rooms for testing each individual Squeak, along with hideouts. Also includes the red Squeaker. The hideouts are mostly the same, containing a Bomb and a Cherry bubble. Strangely, the room for testing the yellow Squeaker has no music playing.

a1s9

a1s9s1
Large room of 31 doors, each one leading to a different test area.

a1s9s2
For testing treasure gravity.

a1s9s3
Huge room for testing various things, mostly blocks.

a1s9s4
For testing blocks.

a1s9s5
Long room with a metal tileset. Many of the platforms are coated with fire, electricity or damage blocks that are all invisible.

Kirby SS metal testroom.png

a1s9s6

a1s9s7
For testing ice with various abilities.

a1s9s8
For testing fire environment.

a1s9s9
For testing ice and water.

a1s9s10
A long plain of ice.

a1s9s11
For testing dirt.

a1s9s12
Same as s11, but with a different tileset and different music.

a1s9s13
For testing snow.

a1s9s14

a1s9s15
The same plain as s10, but with dirt instead of ice.

a1s9s16
Debug room for testing wind currents.

a1s9s17
Various tests.

a1s9s18
Various tests, similar to s17.

a1s9s19

a1s9s20
For testing cannons.

Second Level

a2s1s11 to a2s1s15

An alternate goalgame, more similar to the one used in Kirby's Adventure. Three cannons are placed at the bottom, each leading to a different exit leading to a room with extra 1UPs. The highest exit will give three 1UPs, the second highest two 1UPs and the lowest one 1UP.

Kirby SS alternate goalgame.png

a2s2s12 to a2s2s19

The same goalgame with a slightly different layout. Notably, some backgrounds have a colored filter.

KirbySS Goalgame finish.png

a2s3s13 to a2s3s19

Yet another version of the goalgame, but much more detailed. There are now clouds surrounding the cannon paths and numbers under each exit.

a2s4

a2s4s3
Similar to a room in level 2-5, about a third of it has changed.

a2s4s4
Side room, parallel to the 2-5 stage as well. Contains different items and a 1UP instead of a treasure chest.

a2s4s5
A completely new room that looks finished. In the middle, a cannon with a fuse and the obligatory fire enemy right next to it, on the right a warp star. The cannon would most likely lead to a2s4s7, and the warp star to a2s4s6.

a2s4s6
Transition room. Kirby rides upward with the warp star and collects a maxim tomato and a 1UP.

a2s4s7
Cloudly area with an extra life wrapped in clouds.

a2s4s8
Different version of a room in 3-4. As you progress, the background turns yellow. There is a small area with a UFO item that is unaccessible, and two extra 1UPs underneath the door. Most of the items and enemies are changed.

a2s4s9
Apparently the exact same room as it appears at the end of 3-4.

a2s7

a2s7s3
Trapped in a small, invisible box.

a2s7s4

a2s7s5
Similar to a room in 2-1, probably just like the original.

a2s7s6
Like another room in 2-1, with a few differences.

Just like in the final version of this room, there is a large treasure box. If it is collected however, the Squeaks will not appear. Instead, Dark Zero will, as his pre-Final Boss form after defeating Daroach in Level 8. Many of this entity will spawn and follow Kirby around.

a2s8

Third Level

a3s5s4 to a3s5s6

Invisible rooms that seem to be precedent of the final versions.

Fourth Level

a4s5

(Not much)

Fifth Level

a5s7s1 and a5s7s2

The same boss fight, but with different music.

Seventh Level

a7s5s2 to a7s4s12

Small, invisible rooms. Some of them resemble puzzles in the final game.

a7s7s3 and a7s7s4

Invisible final boss prelude.

Ninth Level

All rooms have the debug tileset unless otherwise noted.

a9s1

a9s1s2
Room with a normal tileset for testing various things.

a9s1s3
Another such room.

a9s1s4
(Not sure what tileset...)

a9s1s5
(Also not sure what tileset)

a9s1s6
Large room for testing elemt stuff. Part of the tileset is wrong.

a9s1s7
Huge room for testing all sorts of things. The doors usually lead to different parts of the room, but here none of the doors actually work.

Kirby SS a9s1s7.png

a9s1s8
For testing a few abilities. Tileset?

a9s1s9

a9s1s10
Unusual room. Has some tiles in a weird arrangement and might not have a tileset assigned.

a9s1s11
A debug room, but many things are misplaced and not reachable.

a9s1s12
A very brief sequence of riding on a warpstar.

a9s2

a9s2s3
Squeak trapped in water.

a9s2s4
The bubble mid boss, but he's not activating.

a9s2s5
Same as s4, with the hammer mid boss.

a9s2s6
Big room with 5 large treasure chests and many Squeaks. Also features a special hideout only seen in the debug tileset.

Kirby SS a9s2s6.png

a9s2s7
A sort of boss rush, the room is divided into 8 sections, one for each mid boss.

a9s2s8
A very unusual room. It has the flower tileset from Level 2. There is one misplaced mid boss, but the map is otherwise normal and not reminiscent of anything else.

a9s2s9
Another room with an idle mid boss.

a9s2s10
Another room with an idle mid boss.

a9s2s11
Another room with an idle mid boss.

a9s2s12
Another room with an idle mid boss, and electricity blocks.

a9s2s13
Another room with an idle mid boss.

a9s2s14
One of the more organized debug rooms. For testing ice spikes.

a9s2s15
Mostly empty, but the room is shaking.

a9s2s16
For testing water and currents.

a9s2s17
A maze of gates, but none of them opens.

a9s2s18
Cannons that form a circle.

a9s2s19
2 empty corridors.

a9s2s20
A room full of warpstars, each going at a different speed.

a9s2s21
Odd room with a mid boss.

a9s2s22
Room for testing the ninja ability.

Kirby SS Ninja Debug room.png

a9s2s23
For testing barrels.

a9s2s24
Room containing one of each item, except for minor food. Also 2 wheel enemies.

a9s2s25
For testing cannons and fuses, uses a normal tileset.

a9s2s26
Wind currents leading to transitions.

da Files

Near the end of the map folder, there are 6 object files called da1s1s1 to da1s1s6. These files each contain a seemingly random collection of bubble items. One of them even contains the block ability. It is not clear what they were used for or if they were used for anything.
