Internal Level Text
To do: Check the other levels for any inaccessible text that might be of interest. |
Various levels contain Notes and/or Magic Mouths with text that cannot be seen outside of Create Mode. Their contents can range from developer notes and logic documentation to simple placeholder dialogue.
Adventure Mode
Needlepoint Peaks
One of the collapsing platforms near the start of the level has a red note on it, which contains the following text.
Stay PHYSICAL
The tutorial TV that drops down to explain the Hold to Retry function has a Sequencer containing three Magic Mouths, which all have placeholder dialogue for the Hold to Retry tutorial. The actor name assigned to all three Magic Mouths is "Character Name".
Occasionally you may find yourself stuck with what looks like no way out. Fear not though, little adventurer. We have a solution for that. Open your POP IT with the SQUARE BUTTON then select the UNSTUCK option and hold it down for a few seconds.
Incidentally, the Microchip containing this Sequencer has a note above it, which reads:
ALT TEXT TURNED OFF
Popit Academy
Every level in the Popit Academy contains several Microchips housing logic for handling the slideshows. Inside nearly all of them is a Note above a counter, letting the level designers know how to set the logic up.
Change this counter to set the amount of slides. Don't change anything else!
Some of the slideshow Microchips contain more Magic Mouths than the number of slides configured. These sometimes contain unused character dialogue (albeit with no associated audio), which will be showcased in the relevant section below, but in most cases these will either contain no text, a duplicate of a used line or one of a handful of placeholder messages, including:
Slide 5 Slide 6
Levels that play a cutscene on load contain a Toggle switch that triggers the cutscene. A note is sometimes included, and the text is slightly different each time.
Level | Note Text |
---|---|
Popit Cursor | Toggle OFF to stop cutscene |
Danger Tools | Toggle to enable/disable cutscene |
Bolts | Toggle OFF to stop cutscene. PLEASE TURN BACK ON!!! |
Advanced Connectors | Toggle OFF to stop cutscene - PLEASE TURN BACK ON |
Material Tweaker | Toggle off to stop cutscene at start |
Sackbots | Toggle OFF to stop cutscene PLEASE TURN BACK ON! |
Stamping Materials
Inside the Microchip for the first slideshow are two Magic Mouths that talk about shifting materials into different layers. This information is never mentioned in the level, and no audio exists for these lines in the files. Both mouths use the actor name "L1".
You can also move the material into different layers with L1 and L2... ... or change the thickness of the material with R1 and R2.
In the Microchip for the second slideshow, another Magic Mouth labelled "L2" talks about changing layers to cut through materials. Just like the previous two Magic Mouths this information is never relayed to the player in the level, and no audio exists for the line.
Remember, if you want to cut away something in a different layer, you can press L1 and L2 to change layers!
Corner Editing
In the first slideshow's Microchip is a Magic Mouth labelled "L1" reminding the player to back out of the Corner Editor. This was meant to be used by a fourth slideshow image, but the first slideshow only shows the first three before the cutscene ends, so this text goes unused.
When you're happy with the created shape, press the Back button to close your popit and marvel at your wonderful creation!
Bounce Pads
Found in the Microchip for the first slideshow is a Magic Mouth labelled "Popit Professor" that appears to be an early version of the line used to tell the player to close the Popit menu.
When you're happy with the Bounce Pad's tweak settings, press [Circle] to close the Popit and be on your way!
In the Microchip for the second slideshow is a Magic Mouth labelled "L1", containing an early version of the line telling the player about a shortcut for accessing the Bounce Pad's tweak menu.
Also, if you hold the Action Button when placing a Bounce Pad, you will go straight into the tweak menu. Now isn't that efficient!
Tags and Sensors
On the Microchip for the slideshow about Tag Sensors is a Magic Mouth with dialogue that goes unused. Once again, no associated audio is present, but interestingly gamedata/audio/lbp3/dialogue/popit_puzzles completely skips pp09_110_victoria.mp3, going from line 90 to 110.
Use your ingenuity to tweak these next Tag Sensors to solve the puzzles!
Physics Tweaker
On the slideshow Microchip used for introducing the Physics Tweaker's weight tweaks is a Magic Mouth (labelled "vic3") containing a shorter version of the dialogue that plays after the slideshow ends.
These next puzzles will require you to make objects either heavier or lighter. Use what you've learned to complete the challenges!
Emitters
In the Microchip for the slideshow that introduces the Emitter's Linear Velocity tweak is a Magic Mouth (labelled "PopitProfessor") that talks about the Parent Velocity tweak, something that is never mentioned in the level itself. As is commonplace with these extraneous Magic Mouths, no corresponding audio exists.
Parent Velocity is used when an Emitter is moving. The Emitter is known as the Parent to its emitted objects, and if the Emitter is moving, it will pass any speed along to the objects it emits.
In the next slideshow chip are two Magic Mouths (labelled "Prof_02") that talk about the Emitter's timing tweaks. One is a shortened version of the Lifetime tweak explanation, while the other talks about the Sync tweak, something that, again, is never brought up elsewhere in the level.
Lifetime is how long an emitted object will stay in the level before disappearing. Sync is used to offset the timing of different Emitters. If you want an Emitter to emit its object a second earlier than another Emitter, set its Sync to 1.0 seconds.
In the next slideshow chip, an alternate version of the line explaining the Max Emitted at Once tweak can be found in a Magic Mouth labelled "Prof_03".
Max Emitted at Once does exactly what its name suggests. When the maximum is reached, the Emitter will destroy the first object to make room for the new one.
Velociporters & Teleporters
The first slideshow chip has a Magic Mouth labelled V1, which contains an alternate version of the prompt to close the Popit.
When you're all set, close the Popit Menu with Back Button and jump on in!
The next slideshow chip contains two Magic Mouths labelled "V2", both of which contain the exact same message, being an early version of the prompt to tweak the Velociporter.
Once the Velociporter is placed, you can then use the Popit Cursor to tweak it to your liking. Good luck!
The slideshow chip for wiring a button to a Teleporter contains two Magic Mouths labelled "V4", which contains part of an early script for this section of the level.
Press the Action Button to connect the wire to the Teleporter. And that's all there is to it! Use the Back Button to close the Popit Menu, and then pull that Switch!
Sackbots
The second slideshow chip contains two Magic Mouths (labelled "vicStart") that appear to follow an early version of the script that explains the Sackbot's Follow and Flee tweaks.
If you set his behaviour to Follow, he will follow around the nearest player. If you set him to Flee, he'll instead run away like a little scaredy cat! For these next puzzles, you'll have to choose when to use Follow, Flee, or Idle to continue. Remember you can always rewind if you make an oopsie.
In the Microchip for the slideshow about the Follow Waypoint tweak is a Magic Mouth (labelled vicWay) that contains an early version of the line that explains how to set up the Follow Waypoint tweak.
First set the Sackbot's behaviour to Follow Waypoint, and then choose the appropriate colour to solve the puzzle. It's as easy as that.
The Journey Home
Spring Time in the Gardens
In the room where you first obtain the Springinator powerup, the tall Microchip housing the cutscene logic contains the following notes.
Eventually this quest will be used for detecting whether you've already beaten the level All this dialogue timing is messed up, THANKS LAMS (and obama)
To the left of the windmill is a circular contraption which controls the Springinator-activated gears. Inside its Microchip is some documentation on how to operate it.
multiple of 0.9 = no of spins output to device you want to move
Gallery Kits
Tiki Paradise Level Kit
Behind the surfer puppet just before the rising sand room is an invisible piece of cardboard, on which the following note can be found.
Do not delete or move, Jad!
Challenges
Great Shock!
Above a cardboard platform out of bounds is a note attached to an arrow pointing to an exploding square of Sticker Panel. The note in question contains the following text.
Dont forget confetti!! You may need to re-emit
Pinball Calls
A note just to the right of the Entrance contains a note pointing out debug movement in the pinball.
NB the ball has temp debug movement to aid qa testing! Do not report it or this note. Cheers :)
Inaccessible Quest Text
Text related to quests that can't be seen through normal means.
Adventure
Quest Title | Quest Description | Quest Objectives | Filename | Additional Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|
Boat Race | Help Marina build the fastest boat and win the race. | Build a brilliant boat. | ziggurat_blueprint.qst | A leftover quest from a scrapped Contraption Challenge where you would've built a boat in order to win a race. The level this quest was associated with was removed from the PS3 version, though remnants of it - including icons and .plan files - can still be found in the game's data. |
Light 'em up! | Light up every single block and surive! | Light up all blocks and survive! | 2d3d_tile_quest.qst | A quest associated with a level internally referred to as "2d3d", where you would've had to light up all of the platforms in the level and reach the end without dying. This quest is grouped with Bunkum Lagoon's quests, so the level was likely intended to appear there. Unlike other quests, the name, description and objective are written in plain English rather than simply pointing to a language key. The quest's description contains a typo in "surive".
While the level associated with this quest was completely removed from the PS3 version, it still exists in the PS4 version, albeit unused. |
bridge_quest | Add a quest description here... | I need this | pp01_bridge.qst | A quest used by the Popit Cursor level in Popit Academy: Term 1. While the quest itself is used, it's normally hidden and none of the Popit Puzzles have the Organisertron enabled, so its associated text goes unused. |
Cancelled Disney Costume Packs
Added in Game Update 1.26, gamedata/languages/english.trans contains various text strings referencing both a "Mickey Mouse and Friends Costume Pack" and a "Winnie the Pooh Costume Pack", suggesting that costumes based on the two properties were planned as DLC. The costumes themselves do not exist, so it's unknown which of the game's five characters would have received what costumes. Since all of the Disney themed DLC was pulled from the PlayStation Store on December 21st, 2017, it's unlikely that either of these packs will ever see the light of day.

Developer Notes
Leftover in the game's code are various developer notes from the second game and a few new ones as well.
TheFuckingZOffset JustUseTheFuckingZOffset FIOS: scheduler::closeFile received invalid FH 0x%08llX - possible double-close. This can (and will) cause problems because filehandles are recycled. You should fix your code.
