Hmmm...
To do:
Any revisional differences?
  • Version 8.0 USG and 11.1 CTR found and dumped in 2022, as well as TWL EVA (intended for the original DSi) 2.1 and 3.0.
  • Version 5.1 and 9.0 USG, as well as TWL-EVA 1.0, found and dumped in 2023.

The Aging Card NTR is a debug cartridge for testing the Nintendo DS. The name of the article is based on the cartridge's label; aside from the other official names at right, the software is also known unofficially as "NTRAging" and incorrectly (due to a translation error) as "Actual Inspection Card NTR".

Two versions of the cart are known to exist: 1.0 (intended for the original DS) and 6.0 (designed for the DS Lite). A screenshot of 11.0 (possibly intended for the original 3DS) can be found in the December 2020 Nintendo leaks.

The oldest known version is dated August 18, 2004, a little over three months before the system's launch. A lot of the content in this cart is reused from the AGS Aging Cartridge (or is it the other way around?). As such, some of the unused content here is in that cart as well.

To boot straight into the main test, hold Select at startup or for the menu, hold Start. If you do not hold either of those, you will get an error message. If you wish to see the current result of the self-checker, hold L + R + A + B + X + Y and you should see a debug screen showing the name, version, time elapsed, name of current test, frame, result, and overall result. Pressing B at this screen will send you to the menu, and pressing A will restart the self-checker.

While not unused, an early screenshot of Super Mario 64 DS can be seen in some tests. A comparison can be seen here.

Unused Music

Hmmm...
To do:
Some more can be found here

All of these can be heard in the Sound Test.

SEQ_WARIO

The music track used in the AGS Aging Cartridge, Nintendo's Music Player AGB2000 demo and "Backup LIB sample" from Game Boy Advance SDK, but with more notes and instrument samples in higher quality. The song has some unused notes, which must have happened during porting.

SEQ_CGB

A series of notes, each with a different instrument. This was probably for testing the instruments. A similar series of notes is also used in the other Aging cart. Notice a pattern?

SEQ_AGB2000

A harp glissando taken from Nintendo's Music Player AGB2000 demo.

SE_SUPER_MARIO2

The opening of the Super Mario Bros. theme.

Unaudible Notes

SEQ_WARIO has a few errors in its soundfile, which result in inaudible, unused notes:

  • Individual note volumes of the square instrument are too low.
  • Drums have instrument ID 127 set instead of the correct ID 27, which does not exist in the soundbank.
    • Its notes are also an octave too high
  • Bells (?) are also an octave too high

By editing its SSEQ soundfile it can be easily fixed (it could have been much worse):
