Music Inspirations

Along with the direct music covers found in the files that were changed over time, there is more songs that were covers of other songs that don't have early versions. Note that some tracks may have mish-mashed other tracks together.

Hmmm...
To do:

E1M1 - At Doom's Gate

Original Song Release

The first level theme in the game has the most notoriously debated theme within the game on where it's origins are traced to as other tracks such as D.R.I.'s "Hooked", which has a very similar riff, if not the exact same riff at the start[1]. Bobby Prince claimed he was just "goofing around on the guitar" and eventually created a track that is "like metal" without even needing to listen to a song from the genre.[2] It is also worth noting that it was initially considered a misconception that E1M1 was inspired by Metallica's "Master of Puppets", however as seen in the metadata for the original MIDI file, Master of Puppets was indeed cited as the inspiration for At Doom's Gate, finally putting this debate to rest.

E1M4 - Kitchen Ace (And Taking Names)

Original Song Release

Starting at 0:21, it's clearly obvious that the track was based off of Pantera's "Rise." The main riff is used and percussion is very similar too.

E2M3/Intermission Screen - Intermission from DOOM

Original Songs Release

As seen in the OS/2 MIDI files, Metallica's "Fight Fire with Fire"[3] served as the main inspiration for Intermission from Doom.

E2M9/E3M1 - Untitled

Original Song Release

Once again akin to the other tracks, at 0:24, it becomes very clear that the track takes a direct take of Mouth for War.
