See, this is why game preservation is important.
This game is defunct.
Do note the game no longer works at all without modifications. This is most likely due to the game's servers being shut down. As a result, further official developments with the game are unlikely to happen.
So very stubbly.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

OVERKILL's The Walking Dead is essentially PAYDAY 2 but with zombies, and you're stuck in stealth mode for the entire game. While not necessarily the worst game out there, its abject failure nearly bankrupted the developer company and was thus bestowed the dubious honor of being one of the few games to get canceled after release.

Hmmm...
To do:
There's just so much that needs to be done:
  • Need some way to extract these things properly. As it is, it seems to be still missing files.
  • It seems developer Lion Game Lion (of RAID: World War II infamy) provided assets for the game, more importantly, is the folder L10N, which hosts a revolver of some kind.
  • Somehow get images of any of this from an always-online game.
  • Test assets, Maps, Maps, and so many maps, plus other stuff.
  • For some reason there's an alternate version of the Tutorial Level.
  • Files for PS4, Xbox One, PS Vita, and god damned Mobile Phone controller support is in the game.
  • VR Support is in the game.
  • "Cheats"/Debug stuff is in the game.
  • Finish uploading stuff from the Temp folders.
  • There's a ton of loading screens in there, many of which I don't ever recall seeing use.
  • Maya in one of the videos mention "Junkers", which don't appear in the final product. Well, there's an absolute TON of files related to them still stashed in the files.
  • A dev build has been leaked on 4Chan, contains a bunch of stuff that was never released to the game.

Early Loading Screen

An early loading screen, not like anything the final uses. The house somewhat resembles the one in Hell or High Water.

Early Cutscenes

The First Shot

Present in OTWD/Content/Movies are these two early Cutscenes, seemingly for the maps The First Shot and Hell or Highwater. Cinematic 02forExport.mp4 and LoadingScreenLaundromat02.mp4. The former of which is seemingly uncompressed coming in at ~60MBs vs the latter's ~10.

Hell or Highwater

These cutscenes are very unfinished, only containing a few stills and narrations from the character Maya.

There's one more cutscene left in the game files,'Cinematic_S07-2_Interlude', using 3D models instead of art, was clearly supposed to play after the level 'Last Stop' and you reach the Eckington Camp.

Console Leftovers

Movie Files

OTWD/Content/Movies/XBO seems to contain a few in-progress movie files for the unreleased console port: BlackScreen.mp4 (435kb vs 59.2kb), IntroSplash.mp4 (42.1MB vs 16MB), IntroTrailer.mp4 (325MB vs 128MB), LoadingScreenGeneric.mp4, and UESplash.mp4 (3.80MB vs 3.25MB). For some reason, most of these files are much larger than their used counterparts, IntroSplash is missing its audio, and UESplash.mp4 is two seconds shorter than the used version.

Controllers

In various places of pakchunk0-WindowsNoEditor_files.pak are multiple files for PS4 and Xbone controller support. Most interesting is under \OTWD\Content\UI\Menus\ControllerScreens resides a folder for a Vita layout, called VITA_UI. This was most likely related to the PS4's remote play feature rather than a Vita port in and of itself.

Unused Textures

OKTWDPrototype T Target.png
Present in the Temp folders is this texture of a Target. Its presence there indicates it was either used in a test or one of the unfinished Season 2 levels.

VR Remnants

The file pakchunk0-WindowsNoEditor.pak contains the vast majority of the game's assets. Extracting the files and going to \Engine\Content shows a folder called VREditor, and various "VR" prefixed file names scattered around in various subfolders.
