Persona 5/Unused Text/Battle-Related Dialogue

From The Cutting Room Floor

This is a sub-page of Persona 5/Unused Text.

Unseen Enemy Names

The unique versions of Moloch and Belphegor used for the Shadow Hashisato and Shadow Nejima respectively have name entries in the Persona name table that cannot be seen normally as they are unable to be recruited by the player. What stands out about this is that the corresponding Persona table entries for the other bosses are either taken by Personas that are only obtainable through fusions, DLC or are character-specific, or otherwise unused RESERVE entries.

Ex-Moloch
Ex-Belphegor

The following enemy names correspond to used Persona. However, these Personas cannot be encountered as enemies in-game, leaving these unique names unused.

Hex ID Enemy Name Persona Notes
001 Shadow of God Metatron
002 Fly of the Dead Beelzebub
003 Brave Spear-bearer Cu Chulainn The version of this enemy the player fights in-game

is named Spear-wielding General and has a separate hex ID.

00A Hero-Gathering Tyrant Odin
02F Mysterious Little Girl Alice
03A Prison Master Sandalphon
040 Bloody Goddess Cybele
04A Evil Snowman Black Frost The version of this enemy the player fights in-game

is named Shadow Sakoda and has a separate hex ID.

057 Grudging Warrior Arisen Yoshitsune
059 Captivating Dancer Ame-no-Uzume Unused enemy formations imply she was meant to be encountered in Madarame's Palace.
07D Killer Teddy Bear Bugs The version of this enemy the player fights in-game

is named Shadow Mogami and has a separate hex ID.

Unseen Skill Names

While these skills aren't unused, the names of the skills used for when a teammate performs a follow-up attack cannot be seen during normal gameplay. While they mostly refer to their weapons, Morgana's skill is named "Follow Claw", implying at some point he was meant to use claw weapons, similar to Teddie from Persona 4, instead of scimitars.

Follow Crush
Follow Claw
Follow Whip
Follow Sword
Follow Knuckle
Follow Axe
Follow Saber

Likewise, whenever an item is used, it will call a unique skill to activate its effect. These skills have names and descriptions that cannot be seen normally.

The description for the skill Recamdra, used by the Corporobo enemies in Okumura's Palace.

Unused Shadow Negotiation Dialogue

Akechi's Palace

The negotiation dialogues for the shadows have lines referring to "Master Akechi" and "Lord Akechi". These lines are labelled TalkMsg_CONTACT_17 and D07, putting them between the shadow negotiation lines for Sae Niijima and Shido, and seem to imply that Goro Akechi was meant to have a palace at some point in development. Indeed, the palace assets skip a number between Niijima and Shido, going from 57 to 59, instead of 57 to 58. One of the battle scripts in the game adds further credence to this, as it lists Akechi alongside the main Palace bosses. Aside from a single ENV file, any other assets relating to this palace appear to have been deleted or overwritten by those used for Shido's Palace.

The inconsistency with Akechi's title appear to be the result of a mistranslation.

Master Akechi.

TalkMsg_ED_bye_D07_01
Hmph. Don't matter how strong you

be a match for Master Akechi.

TalkMsg_ED_bye_D07_02
Heh, you think that power's gonna
hold up against Master Akechi?

TalkMsg_ED_bye_D07_03
I'll tell you now, Master
Akechi's way stronger
than you shits.

TalkMsg_CONTACT_17_1

Do you understand the

No one can rival Master Akechi.

TalkMsg_ED_bye_D07_01
In the very end, you're simply
no match for Master Akechi.

TalkMsg_ED_bye_D07_02
If you have that kind of power,
perhaps you are a real threat
to Master Akechi...

TalkMsg_ED_bye_D07_03
I hope you're aware that
Master Akechi's power
dwarfs my own...

That's BEFORE you shoot!

TalkMsg_CONTACT_17_2

I will do anything...

TalkMsg_CONTACT_17
Look, sonny...
Master Akechi is a much

you'd actually stand a chance against Master Akechi?

TalkMsg_ED_bye_D07_03

not the kinda guy you wanna
mess with.

TalkMsg_CONTACT_17_1
...I give up! I give up!
Gimme a break already...

TalkMsg_CONTACT_17_2

TalkMsg_ED_bye_D07_01

actually defeat Master Akechi.

TalkMsg_ED_bye_D07_02
If that's the best you can do,
then you should forget about
taking on Master Akechi.

TalkMsg_ED_bye_D07_03
Just thought I'd let you know that Master Akechi...
Well, he's pretty incredible.

TalkMsg_CONTACT_17_1
All right. I wasn't going
to ask you this, but just
what do you plan to do?

TalkMsg_CONTACT_17_2
...Look, I'm asking you for
your help. Please, I won't

have to kill me, do you?

TalkMsg_CONTACT_17

TalkMsg_ED_bye_D07_01
You would do well to tread
carefully. Lord Akechi is a
man possessed of immense desire.

TalkMsg_ED_bye_D07_02

power would even pose a
threat to Lord Akechi...

TalkMsg_ED_bye_D07_03
It's fair that I tell you that
you're mistaken if you think
you can oppose Lord Akechi.

TalkMsg_CONTACT_17_1

doing here, sneaking
around in here!?

TalkMsg_CONTACT_17_2

a thing to Lord Akechi!

to defy Lord Akechi?
What are you, stupid?

TalkMsg_ED_bye_D07_01

But don't forget, this
is Lord Akechi's castle.

TalkMsg_ED_bye_D07_02
Oh yeah, I should tell you...
You'll never beat Lord Akechi.

TalkMsg_ED_bye_D07_03
Oh, hey. You should know that you still haven't seen Lord Akechi's true strength.

TalkMsg_CONTACT_17_1
...W-Wait! I don't
want to die yet!

TalkMsg_ED_bye_D07_03

This dialogue is tied to an unused enemy formation intended to have been encountered in the dungeon area of Kamoshida's Palace, and may have some relation to another unused event intended for the dungeon area. Ann uses her regular outfit portrait for this cutscene, and the enemy formation that uses this cutscene is located before the enemy formation for Ann's awakening battle, implying that she would have followed Joker, Ryuji and Morgana in the Metaverse before awakening her Persona instead of being captured as is the case in the final.

Ryuji's suggestion gives rise

The earlier text implies that Bullet Hail would have a random chance of toppling enemies, an ability which the final's Bullet Hail lacks.

Early Final
By successfully ambushing an enemy, you will be able to perform a preemptive gun attack, called Bullet Hail. Mashing or holding the X button, during this may topple enemies regardless of their elemental affinities. If you execute a surprise attack on an enemy, you may begin battle with your guns drawn. This is called Bullet Hail. If such a situation arises, hold or rapidly press the X button to perform a one-sided preemptive attack. This will not consume ammunition.
