Developer: Niantic This game has unused playable characters. |
This game is still under active development. Be aware that any unused content you find may become used or removed in the future. Please only add things to the article that are unlikely to ever be used, or went unused for some time. If they do get used, please remove them from the page and specify in the edit summary! |
Pokémon GO is the franchise's first step into the world of getting players to GO out and have a good time in their towns catching Pokémon while they circle around landmarks in hopes of catching any rare ones.

Unused Graphics
Placeholder Photo
A placeholder photo named ModelViewerSamplePhoto. This image seems to be horizontally stretched in the iOS release and horizontally squished in the Android release. This photo was taken next to the monument Cupid's Span in San Francisco, California where Niantic's headquarters are located.
Unused Items
An icon for the Honey item is present in the game. In mainline games, it can be used to start a battle against a wild Pokémon immediately. Unlike other unused items, the icon is all that's left of the Honey item. Also present are four icons for unused types of berries, two of which resemble the Bluk Berry and Razz Berry from the main series games (with the Razz Berry later being included), while the other two do not.
Unused Items
Choco Nanab Berry
A chocolate covered Nanab Berry. Both the Razz and Pinap Berries received extra effective variants (Golden and Silver, respectively), so it's possible there is/was one planned for the Nanab Berry as well.
Unused Models
Models for both used and unused types of berries. The final game uses a static image of the Razz Berry rather than a model.

*IF CHANGE LAYOUT MAKE SURE GRID FITS TON OF ITEMS*
A note from one of the game’s designers to whomever is in charge of designing the item screen’s layout.
Hatch this egg by feeding it butter. It likes all kinds of butter, every kind. The best kind.
A placeholder description for Eggs that might appear sometimes due to a glitch.
Unobtainable Pokémon
This article is a work in progress. ...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes. |
The models, textures and other 2D assets for every Pokémon up until Necrozma are in the game, with few exceptions. This includes their Shiny variants, any alternate forms and Mega Evolutions.
- Shiny Unown have only been made available during events, with the following forms still unreleased: H, K, M, P, Q, W, X, Z, Exclamation Point and Question Mark.
- Ash-Greninja is completely absent.
- The Shiny variant of Cosmog is absent.
- Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta only have 2D sprites and use those of the Hero of Many Battles forms as a placeholder.
Hisuian Voltorb (Shiny) | Hisuian Electrode (Shiny) |
---|---|
- The Shiny variants of Hisuian Voltorb and Electrode are present, but untextured.
Certain event exclusive Pokémon have Shiny and gender variants which were not made available.
Shiny Xerneas Oddity
In the main series games, when a Shiny Xerneas is received via Mystery Gift, its coloration will differ from those seen in-game. Oddly enough, a sprite of this variant is present in Pokémon GO as well.

Revisional Differences
Pokémon GO Plus
v0.23.3 | v0.31.0 | Latest version (Unused) | Latest version (Used) |
---|---|---|---|
The icon for the Pokémon GO Plus accessory. The first icon was never used. It was changed in v0.31.0 to a different icon that better matches the game's art style, This change was made for the device's release. Again changed later. Finally changed to match the Poké Ball™ Plus design in 0.127.0.
Kanto Medal
The original condition for the Kanto medal was "Register x Pokémon in the Pokédex." In v1.27.2, when most Generation II Pokémon were added to the game, it was changed to "Register x Pokémon first discovered in Kanto Region to the Pokédex."
