Unused Graphics

NOTE: None of the graphics listed below have proper filenames; the names are given based on the order in which they are present in IMAGE.DAT.

Unused Song Leftovers

Throughout the game's archives are leftovers for several songs not present in the game in any way; these include their characters, which also go unused unless stated otherwise.

LET ME FEEL SO HIGH

This song received a Hyper chart in the arcade release of pop'n music 10, which might have been a reason for its planned inclusion in this port.
No in-game sprites remain in the data.

Nanka hen da!

  • Genre: POWER FOLK
  • Character: Ash [3]
  • Game of origin: pop'n music 3

This song received a Hyper chart in the arcade release of pop'n music 10, which might have been a reason for its planned inclusion in this port.
Despite this, there was a bigger thorn preventing this and another song, "Nervous breakdown ~type zero~", from being included: accusations of plagiarism towards Atsushi Shindo, the composer of these tracks.
Character portrait and in-game sprites don't seem to exist.

Placeholder

There is also a placeholder slot within Files 4 and 44, which contain songwheel genre and artist graphics, respectively. The songwheel genre reuses the banner image of the song Yume to genjitsu, while the artist reads "猛獣" (moujuu), meaning "beast", or, more literally, "fierce animal".

Other Unused Characters

There's also data for a couple more unused characters within the archives.

cup-kun

A hidden character from pop'n music 9 and its home port. Only icons can be found, within File 3.

Pnm10PS2-cupkun1.pngPnm10PS2-cupkun2.png

Dummy

There's also a grayed out variant of the character nanako&soramame, as seen in the song Seishuning, from the home release of pop'n music 5, and a long version of which appears in the console port of pop'n music 9. As evidenced by the "D" label and the comments in the character portrait, it was meant to be used as a placeholder.

Revisional Differences

The Konami the Best rerelease of the game is known to have three differences, all relating to the songs;

  • The genre of the song I REALLY WANT TO HURT YOU was corrected to "POPS ENCORE" in its banner. Prior to this revision, it was misspelled as "POPS ENCHOLE"; this was also seen in the PlayStation 2 release of pop'n music 9.
Original Revision

  • The genre of the song Sweets~instrumental was corrected to "PRECIOUS ENCORE" in its banner. Prior to this revision, it was misspelled as "PRECIOUS ENCHORE".
Original Revision
Pnm10PS2-preciousencore1.png Pnm10PS2-preciousencore2.png
  • The artist of the song BEYOND THE EARTH was corrected to "猫叉Master" (Nekomata Master). Prior to this revision, it was written as "猫Master", though the old pronounciation is the same.
