This page details prerelease information and/or media for Among Us.

Starting development in November 2017, Among Us had a relatively short, but interesting development cycle.

Early Screenshots

AmongUs earlytaskpic.jpg

AmongUs earlycockpit.jpg

Very early images of a cockpit area (from The Skeld?) and one of its tasks in a very crude form. There was also once a time limit in place, which was removed later on.

AmongUs EarliestScreenshot.jpg

Another screenshot from the game, in that same primitive state. The crewmates are all slightly wider, and are one whole color each. The differently colored crewmates also have their visors colored, unlike the final game.

AmongUs earlyskeld.jpg

An early screenshot of the Skeld, with a rough sketch as a placeholder. The crewmates now have their finalized/recognizable shapes and silhouettes.

Concept Art

An early whiteboard sketch of the Mira HQ map.

AmongUs OldSkeld.png

An older version of The Skeld, uploaded by the official Among Us Twitter.

AmongUs earlytasks.png

Early concepts for the various tasks found in the game, such as the Divert Power and Hand Scan tasks.

AmongUs earlycrewmate.png

As stated by Marcus Bromander, this was the only concept art made for designing the crewmates, with the upper-right design resembling that of a starfish. According to Marcus, they settled quite quickly on the crewmate's design.

AmongUs earliestpolus.jpg

AmongUs polusconcept.png

Two early sketches of Polus, with the youngest one using white crewmates to signify where vents (or in Polus' case, holes) would go.

AmongUs earliestairship.jpg

AmongUs earlyairship.png

Early concept sketches of the Airship map, from oldest to youngest. The earliest known concept sketch has some text on the left which is cropped out, as well.

AmongUs votemockup.png

A mock-up for the voting screen, using much simpler art.

Early Animations

An early animation for one of the kills, was posted on the official Innersloth Twitter account. As seen here, the Impostor originally put the knife away, instead of leaving implanted in the crewmate's oxygen tank.

Early Gameplay Footage

The games developers have shared a decent amount of early footage from the game's development.

A very early scene of the Impostor killing a crewmate, complete with some rough sketches.

An early (and frankly, very low quality) video of a crewmate doing tasks on an early version of The Skeld.

This is the earliest known version of the team screens found in the game, most notably showing the Impostor role. At this point in development, the text stated "YOU ARE AN IMPOSTOR" instead of simply "IMPOSTOR", as well as lacking a red backdrop. The music cue was also taken from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, used as a placeholder to "set the mood".

This is another early test for the team screens, this one in particular being far further in development. Instead of the sound cue from Twilight Princess, the cue was taken from Civilization V, though still used as just a placeholder.

Imposters Doing Tasks

When the game was originally being developed in November 2017, The Skeld, the game's only map at the time, was planned to constantly be in crisis, with Impostors as well as Crewmates being able to do tasks. According to Willard, one of the playtesters of the game, this was changed due to feeling too stressful, and not leaving much time for actual detective work.

Post-Release Content

Early Keybinding Screen

An early, and much more primitive, version of the keybinding screen used in the PC versions of Among Us can be seen in some early gameplay footage of one of the updates.

Guardian Angel Splash Screen

A splash screen for the Guardian Angel role, seen in the original trailer for the Roles update. In the final version of the update, the first crewmate to die automatically becomes a Guardian Angel, and is not something awarded by chance.
