Concept Box Art

Elementary, my dear Cactus.
This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically: Apparently, at least one of these is used in-game.

Some nice-looking movie poster-style ideas here, complete with cheesy taglines.

Multiplayer Gameplay Reveal

On June 9th, 2014, DICE presented a six-minute trailer for Battlefield Hardline at E3 that year to coincide with the closed beta that was playable the same day. A vast number of differences can be seen throughout.

  • The Sky 5 screen crawl color was changed from orange to blue.
  • The loot icons are numbered in the final game.
  • The minimap displayed what resembled a satellite view of the area in the trailer. The final more closely resembles a blueprint with less detail regarding terrain and buildings.
  • The armored car is yellow and belonged to Centinel Security Services in the trailer. It would be colored red in the final and changed hands to Mantlet Security in the final.
  • The Uzi's mag capacity was 30+1 rounds in the trailer and first beta. This was corrected to 32+0 in the final.
  • Battle Pickup icons on the minimap were simply a square with a pistol icon inside them. The final game would display specific icons to denote what the pickup is (LMG, rocket launcher, zipline, etc.).
  • The gas grenade doesn't blur the player's vision in the trailer. Despite this, it does work as intended in the first beta and final.
  • The outfits for the Criminals were noticeably more drab in the trailer and first beta.
  • Reload hints were displayed next to the player's health in the trailer as opposed to the center of the screen in the final.
  • The POLICE decal on police cars were colored white instead of black in the final.
  • YOU HAVE THE LOOT would stay on-screen constantly in the trailer. The final game reworded this and the message would fade away after a few seconds.
  • Mechanics had access to anti-tank launchers in the trailer and first beta. These were changed to Battle Pickups in the final due to the weapons being "outside the cops and criminal's fantasy".
    • Similarly, Enforcers were originally able to wield light machine guns. They would be replaced with battle rifles and relegated to Battle Pickups in the final. Interestingly, the weapon license patches for the battle rifles actually retain the LMG icons. This is presumably a developer oversight.
  • Optics for weapons were lifted straight from Battlefield 4 and used as placeholders in the trailer and first beta.
  • The T62 CEW taser was originally an equippable gadget. Successfully landing a shot on an enemy would stun them for five seconds. Holding the trigger button down would result in a kill. The taser would ultimately be repurposed as a sidearm in the final and can kill any enemy with one hit, regardless if the trigger button is held down or not.
    • The T62 CEW would gain a mini reflex sight in the final.
  • The M16A3 could be fitted with 40-round magazines in the trailer and first beta. The final game does include extended mags, but they only add five additional rounds to a magazine.
  • The .38 Snub erroneously carried six shots in the trailer and first beta. This was corrected to five in the final.
  • Having the grappling hook equipped would highlight attachable ledges in cyan in the trailer and first beta. This visual feature was completely removed in the final.
  • The interior of the skyscraper was very different. The walls were marble and missing several light fixtures. The floor pattern was different. The TVs on the second floor were larger and there were different paintings on the walls.
  • There were no doors leading to the helipad in the trailer.
  • Ribbons from previous games were able to be earned. These would be replaced with coins in the final but serve the same function.
  • Non-lethal takedowns originally had a handcuffing animation in the trailer and first beta. All non-lethal takedowns were changed in the final with the player just knocking out the enemy.
  • "Redwood Sluggo" was adorned on the baseball bat in the trailer. This would be replaced with "Knock Block" in the final.
  • The Sawed-off Shotgun was renamed to Double-Barrel Shotgun and is able to be fitted with a stock and extended barrel in the final.
  • The method of dropping off the loot is slightly different: The player carrying the bag must reach the dropoff destination (in the trailer's case, a helipad atop a skyscraper) and walk to the center to drop the loot. In the final, the player has to reach the extraction point, wait for an AI-controlled helicopter to arrive, and place the loot in the highlighted spot underneath it. The dropoff locations are also dynamic in the final game and can change spots if enough time passes without a dropoff or if the helicopter is destroyed.
