Concept Art

Hmmm...
To do:
Go over the rest of the images and see if there are any other differences.

Abi Savage, an illustrator for the game, posted on her website concept art for several icons in the game. Some of this art shows content that was changed or removed.

  • In these images, Tier 1 and 2 perks had their graphical colors and background designs swapped.
  • An image shows an early image of Cold Blooded's icon where the snake has its mouth closed.
    • The image also mentions a cut game entity called "K-9 Unit", which presumably was a killstreak that acted similar to the K-9 Unit from Black Ops 4. The image lists that this perk would lower the K-9 Unit's range.
  • One image shows information for a scrapped Tier 1 perk called "Medic". The image details that this perk would allow users to heal faster, revive teammates faster, and grant revived teammates more health.
  • Another image shows icons for two scrapped perks: Espionage, a Tier 1 perk; and Endurance, a Tier 3 perk.

Development Info

Hmmm...
To do:
Try and find out the definitive reason SHG and RVN were split up.
  • As is known quite publicly, 2020's game was originally being developed by Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software. Many different theories as to why Sledgehammer was pulled off the game have been made public, the most credible one being that Raven and Sledgehammer were regularly having disputes over game design decisions, and as such were not actually getting much development done. Sledgehammer was pulled off 2020's project around mid 2019, and instead appointed as a support studio to work on Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare (2019). Treyarch were then pulled off their game at the time (Black Ops 4), and were put on to the COD 2020 project. The rest of the DLC cycle for Black Ops 4 was handled by Activision Shanghai, who made Alpha Omega and Tag der Toten. What Sledgehammers original concept was has not really ever been made public, other than it was supposed to be a Vietnam war game. COD 2020 ended up being shaped in a Black Ops (2010) reboot of sorts, with returning characters such as Woods, Alex Mason, Hudson and Weaver (In zombies). A fun fact is that the project internally is still referred to as S3 in places (S3 = Sledgehammer's 3rd game), although most of these have been replaced with the moniker T9 (Treyarch's 9th game).
