This page details prerelease information and/or media for Enter the Matrix (PlayStation 2).

Enter the Matrix was in development for over two years, starting on February 8th, 2001. The game was released in stores on May 15, 2003 to tie in with the premiere of The Matrix Reloaded in cinemas.

Hmmm...
To do:
  • The strategy guide has quite a few differences to what is in the final game. Document it.
  • Compare the strategy guide to the final game with screenshots.

Trailer/Intro Demo

This is the first trailer that was used to promote the game, which is present in the final release as the intro demo.

  • Health and Focus have different text.
  • Different variations of the health and focus bars can be seen.
  • The focus bar is bigger.
  • The goal marker was originally a radar.
  • The thrown weapons and wooden stake text are different.
  • Gun name and ammo count text are different.
  • The HUD for the Logos was very different.
  • The Health and Focus bars on the Freeway and Under The City driving levels, as well as in the Training Program, are very different and colored green.
  • The goal marker on the Freeway and Under The City driving levels is a simple dot.
  • There is mph text present for your car's speed on the Freeway and Under The City driving levels.
  • The image, name text, and ammo count for the MP5 are visible on the Freeway level when Ghost fires at a police car.
  • There is a goal marker and distance to goal text present on the Freeway level.
  • There is "Internal" and "Status" text present on top of the screen on the Chateau, Freeway, and Post Office levels plus the Training Program.
  • The office at the end of the Vertigo level in the Skyscraper looks different.
  • There is a Coca-Cola vending machine present in the Vertigo level.
  • The image and name text for the Colt M16 rifle are different.
  • Some levels don't have the goal marker.
  • No health bar or name text for Trinity in the Zen Garden level.
  • The Select Screen looks different, including the character position.
  • The plug in sound effect when selecting either Ghost or Niobe is different.
  • The sniper rifle that Ghost uses on the Power Plant level uses "sniper rifle" as a placeholder name.
  • There is target and zoom text when Ghost is using the sniper rifle in first-person mode.
  • The objective text for Ghost in one of the Power Plant levels is different.

Making-Of Documentary

A special feature that was part of the DVD release of The Matrix Reloaded (and retained on all subsequent disc releases of the film), showing off a huge amount of differences compared to the final game. This is all from an earlier build of the game.

  • Colt M16 image and name text are different.
  • Health and Focus bars are different, with a green coloration.
  • The Chevrolet Coupe's Health and Focus bars are different.
  • Vlad's health bar and name text are different.
  • Niobe's health and focus bars are different.
  • The thrown weapon text is different.
  • The vampires' face model is different.
  • The character select screen is different.
  • The HUD for the Logos Ship is different.
  • The "jack in" sound effect is different.
  • The Wood Stake text is different.
  • The radar is different.
  • The 9000s Pistol text is different and in a different position.
  • The intro cutscene at 14:28 and the battle with Trinity ending cutscene at 14:55 are early takes, as they use Anthony Wong's normal voice.
  • The Street Sweeper Shotgun had its name shortened.
  • There is a fighting move at 17:53 which never appears in the final game.
  • The game's original title, "The Matrix 2", is seen from 19:10-17.
  • Internal text is visible (but also censored) at 22:50.
  • There are different bullet effects when firing your weapon.
  • The Tip Text box and text font at 23:33 are different.
  • The health bar and name text turn red when low on health at 24:58 and 25:19.

Level Trailers

These level trailers came out in early 2003 to hype up the game and show off what it had to offer. Surprisingly, all the trailers have interesting differences when compared to the final game.

This is Level One's. It shows the Post Office, Highrise and Tollbooth levels.

  • Gun sound effects are different.
  • Fighting sound effects are different.
  • Ghost's film cutscenes are early takes as they use Anthony Wong's normal voice.

This is Level Two's. It shows the Sewer, Airport and Airplane levels.

  • Originally, you started off in the sewers and then you went to the airport.
  • Gun sound effects are different.
  • Fighting sound effects are different.

  • The Antillas Remix of "GO" is used for Under The City.

GamesMaster May 2003 Preview Footage

This is from the GamesMaster Issue 133 DVD from May 2003 which was released to the public on April 2003, nearly a month before the game's release. It has most of the same differences as the April 2003 Footage whilst having its own.

  • Debug text can be seen at the start of the video.
  • The music in the Chateau is completely different.
  • The wall kick sound effect is different.
  • You don't gain Focus when you kill a vampire in Focus Mode.
  • Wood stake text is different.
  • Weapon text and ammo count is different.
  • Some vampires can be killed in hand to hand combat.
  • Sound cuts out at times.
  • Health and Focus text are different.
  • The objective text is different.
  • Vlad's health bar is different.
  • There is no name text for Vlad above his health bar.
  • Fighting sound effects are different.

"Tomorrow" Trailer

This trailer has Morpheus talking over some gameplay footage from April 2003 and the Making-Of Documentary. It is a scene from The Matrix Reloaded repurposed even before the film came out. It has some very interesting differences whilst having many of the same differences as the April 2003 video.

  • The Infogrames logo is completely different, reflecting the visual style of the films.
  • The Shiny Entertainment logo is completely different, reflecting the visual style of the films.
  • Some fighting sound effects are different.
