This page details prerelease information and/or media for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (GameCube, Xbox).

Development of this version of Chamber of Secrets was concurrent with every other version, being released in most territories on November 5th, 2002.

Even if this trailer presents the Xbox version, it and the GameCube versions are identical.

Many differences between this and the final versions can be spotted:

HUD
  • The Xbox button graphics are different, the letters were darker and the buttons less "bright".
  • The Flipendo, Lumos and Diffindo symbols are the same ones used in the PS2 version.
Visual
  • At 0:14, the four columns were slightly higher (there are 6 blocks from top to bottom in the final version against 7 in the trailer), the crenels are also higher.
  • Harry seemed to be able to assign Flipendo to each button, which is impossible in the final version. The icon may otherwise be a temporary graphic for Incendio, Avifors and Alohomora.
  • The unused purple wizard can be seen in Diagon Alley but in a different color.
  • At 0:17, The Lumos particle is invisible
  • At 0:19, The first intro cinematic is animated way differently
  • At 0:23, the particle of the wand is invisible
  • At 0:23, The eye of the Whillow has a different texture and the outline is modeled differently
  • the quality of the video makes it impossible to be sure, but in 0:32, many prefect head are load in one like by default.
  • At 0:37, the camera does a movement that the final camera does not do. the camera position change instantly in the final version.
  • The flipendo trail was slower, textured and coded different ..
  • Harry and some interactable object had a different lightning
  • At 0:45, the owl treat was modeled differently
  • at 0:54, the green light showing bosses weak spot is missing
  • At 0:58, Scrapped paintings can be seen in right wall and the ghost are not transparent yet.
  • At 1:00, Unused Wizards and Dedalus Diggle can seen surreptitiously. There is also and extra green wizard in the leaky cauldron counter.
  • At 1:04, The diffindo tapestry use a completely different texture that was reused in that sorcerer's stone game

Nintendo GameCube Preview Disc Volume 4 (September 2002) Trailer

This trailer originates from a preview disc two months before release. It starts with the pre-rendered cutscene used in other promotional material, before showing 20 seconds of in-game footage from an earlier version before retail.

Notable differences:

  • The buttons in the HUD are different, with shading making them appear rounder.
  • The Gryffindor Common Room has the lamp lights turned off, giving it a much darker mood.
  • The health HUD is a bit different, the enemy HUD here is placed at the top instead of at the bottom.
  • The gnome icon is different.
  • During the duel between Harry and Draco, there is no barrier to separate the two.
  • The particle effect of Expelliarmus is red instead of orange.
  • The particle effect of Quidditch hoops is darker.

E3 2002 Footage

This is footage of the game from E3 2002. There are many extremely noticeable differences.

  • The Function Button HUD is very different.
  • The Flipendo spell icon is very different.
  • The Wizard Card Symbol was in a different position.
  • There is no Folio Magi screen after Harry picks up the card.
  • "You collected a Wizard Card" text is present.
  • The subtitle text is different.
  • The throw function text is different.

E3 2002 Footage 2

This is footage of every version of the game from E3 2002.
the GameCube version starts at 1:19

  • the health icon was originally a big scar very different from the PS2 version
  • The particle effect of flipendo is different
