1996 KnowledgeLand Preview
In the fall of 1996, Knowledge Adventure released a game called KnowledgeLand which contained previews for several JumpStart games, some of which were then-upcoming. Since JumpStart Adventures 4th Grade: Haunted Island was released on December 2, 1996, its preview predated the game's release by just a few months. The preview depicted a few screenshots of an early stage of development.
Ms. Grunkle
One of the screenshots depicts the witch Ms. Grunkle standing in front of the gate near Madame Pomreeda's cart. Ms. Grunkle never appears in this particular location in the final release. The artwork of Ms. Grunkle used in this image is never seen in-game outside of possibly one pre-rendered cutscene inside her house, where it appears to be used for a portrait on her wall (though it's difficult to make out if it even is the same image due to the cutscene being heavily compressed). One minor design difference it contains is a small pair of pince-nez glasses on the tip of Ms. Grunkle's nose, which are absent from her finalized design.

One of the screenshots depicts different designs for both the character Repsac and the woods location. The prerelease image depicts Repsac as white with yellow eyes, while the final release depicts him as blue with white eyes. Additional changes were made to the shapes of his hands, head, and facial features. The final release also modified the woods background slightly to include another tree, behind which is a cameo of Casey Cat, a character from a different JumpStart game released prior to JumpStart 4th Grade.

The preview also depicted an early version of the yearbook. The prerelease image depicts the name of the kid beneath the picture, which was removed in the final release. The pre-release image also uses black outlines for the kid's image, while the final release has colored outlines.
Other
A short prerelease animation of Repsac was included in a demo reel shared by one of the game's artists, Christopher Blake Williams. It is unknown exactly what point in development this is from. It's worth noting that Repsac's design in this video appears to match the one seen in the KnowledgeLand preview.
