This is a sub-page of Prerelease:Mario Kart Wii.

Some of the videos seen through the game contain footage for an earlier version of the game, with some subtle differences. All of these videos can be found in the /thp directory.

The Miis seem to have flatter shading than in the final game. In addition, the Top 10 graphic has the circle outline in yellow instead of blue (with the background circle also having a bit more detail than the final) and it does not have the "0" from the "10" number.

Headless Miis

MKWii Koopa Cape SinglePlayer Menu Video Headless Miis.png

In the Time Trial section of the video, the Miis behind the circuit's walls are headless. These could also be seen in other videos, such as in the video shown behind the multiplayer buttons in the main menu.

Early Vehicles

In the buttons for 150cc and Mirror Mode in the Grand Prix class selection screen, the early Bullet Bike, as well as the early Wario Bike, can be seen.

Early Funky Stadium Texture

MKWii Funky Stadium CSS Video.png

In the course selection screen videos, the one for Funky Stadium shows a darker texture for the circular dirt paths.

Delfino Pier Gondola

MKWii venice gondola prerelease 1.pngMKWii venice gondola prerelease 2.gif

A gondola-like ship can be seen very briefly at the start of the clip, passing by in the lower right corner of the screen. After that, in the next camera angle (although hard to see), it can be spotted in the distance, in the right part of the screen, with a Pianta waving at the camera.

It's very likely that this ship corresponds to venice_gondola, a scrapped object entity in the game.

Unused Koopa Cape Shell Flags

In the course selection screen videos, the one for Koopa Cape shows three unused flag objects on top of the big green shell.

Missing Crabs Shadows

In the course selection screen videos, the one for GBA Shy Guy Beach shows the crabs missing their shadows.

Different Item Boxes in GCN Waluigi Stadium

MKWii early GCN WS ending1.png MKWii early GCN WS ending2.png

The half pipe ramps located after the first boost jump and the one before one of the final curves originally had 3 item boxes each instead of just 1. In addition, the area with the Piranha Plants originally had sets of 2 item boxes instead of 3, which could also be seen in a prerelease screenshot.

Slightly Different Inside Drifting

Both ending credits videos show that inside drifting bikes used to "slide" forwards a little when starting the drift after hopping. This is very noticeable in one of the clips with Bowser from the true credits version of the video. This could also be seen in a few trailers from GDC 2008.

Something similar happened in the Fall Press Conference 2007 footage, where one can see the Mach Bike "sliding" while drifting (albeit the "sliding" looks much more drastic there than in the credits videos).

In the final game, only outside drifting bikes "slide" forwards a little when starting the drift after hopping. It's likely this was originally the case for inside drifting bikes as well.

Racers Apparition

In Koopa Troopa's segment in DS Yoshi Falls, Yoshi and Rosalina suddenly appear out of nowhere (this is more apparent when comparing frame 2641 and 2642 of the video).

Misplaced Exhaust Pipe Fire

The fire that comes from the exhaust pipes is mispositioned in some vehicles.

Wario Bike

MKWii Misplaced Exhaust Pipes Wario Bike.png

The fire is on a noticeable lower position than in the final. In ending_true.thp, it has the correct placement.

Early Sprinter

MKWii Sprinter ending normal.png

This video and ending_true.thp show the early Sprinter design, with paler shading.

Mushroom Gorge's Disabled Item Boxes

MKWii ending unused item boxes mushroom gorge.png MKWii ending unused item boxes mushroom gorge 2.png

The two sets of disabled item boxes appear here.

2 Marios

MKWii True Ending Credits Two Marios.png

Oddly enough, two Marios can be seen for a few frames at the beginning of Mario's segment in Moonview Highway.

Misplaced Exhaust Pipe Fire

The fire that comes from the exhaust pipes is mispositioned in some vehicles.

Flame Flyer

MKWii Misplaced Exhaust Pipes Flame Flyer 1.png MKWii Misplaced Exhaust Pipes Flame Flyer 2.png

The fire is on a noticeable lower position than in the final.

Dolphin Dasher

MKWii Misplaced Exhaust Pipes Dolphin Dasher.png

The fire is further from the exhaust pipes.

Shooting Star

MKWii Misplaced Exhaust Pipes Shooting Star.png

Although hard to notice in the above picture, the fire here is located in the center of the vehicle on its inside. It is very likely this is due to the developers not setting up the exhaust pipes' properties for this vehicle before making the video, given how by modifying the game to change the fire's position to 0 (the default position) replicates this behaviour.
