So very stubbly.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?
Hmmm...
To do:
Collect and add more images of both the Master System and Game Gear versions.

Early Screenshots

Master System Version

Unknown Builds

A few magazine screenshots that come from unknown time periods.

Sonic1SMSProtoTitleScreen.png

The unused longer copyright notice is present, and the "TM" is missing. The "Button" text is also slightly more to the left. From Supergame (BR) Issues 9 and 12.

From the game's Brazilian boxart, the life counter is more spaced out and shows Sonic having 0 lives. It's possible that it did not function. The map and Zone name are also slightly lower.

The map and Zone name are in their final location. From Supergame (BR) Issue 4.

"RING" Build

A few pictures of the Master System version which show a completely different HUD from the final: no timer is present, and "RING" is used for the ring counter rather than a ring graphic. There are also a few layout differences.

An incorrect ground tile is seen here. From Mean Machines (UK) Issue 13, cover dated October 1991.
