Early Ideas

  • Yoshi was considered for inclusion during development, but Nintendo ultimately decided against incorporating him. As Kenta Motokura noted, the game already contained mechanics similar to Yoshi's abilities, such as the potted Piranha Plants (which can eat enemies), Peach's floating jump, and Plessie.

On PrimaGames' website and their according guide, oddly enough, early screenshots can be found from the game's intro cutscene.

  • The skybox is more of cyan-ish color, instead of purple like in the final game.
  • The lightning is brighter.
  • Pillars appear to be only green colored and there are less of them.
  • Trees have a different, round shape and there are less of them too.
  • The flags on top of Princess Peach's castle are rotated to the left. In the final, they're rotated to the right.
  • For some reason, Peach and Toad don't cast shadows while being shocked. In the middle screenshot, Peach does get a shadow, but then it's removed from Mario and Luigi.
  • Super Bell Hill appears to be less detailed.
