This page details pre-release information and/or media for The Mummy Returns (PlayStation 2).

The Mummy Returns was announced August 5th 2000 as a tie in with the movie of the same name that would be released in Summer 2001. It was released in October 2001.

Early Trailer

This trailer has many differences from the final game. This is probably from an early build of the game.

  • The mummies emerging from the stone at 0:09 never appear in the final game. It's taken directly from the first film so it was probably removed due to redundancy.
  • Imhotep's guards use a different roar sound effect.
  • The visual effect for the Resurrection spell is different. Its sound effect was different too.
  • The Soul Suck spell looked different when performed. The screen also warps which doesn't happen in the final game. This can be seen at various points in the video.
  • Debug text can be seen throughout the video.
  • Imhotep uses the Anubis Roar ability even though he doesn't get it until the forest level.
  • The sword sound effects are different.
  • The British Museum guards have a different colour uniform.
  • The glass smash sound effect was different.
  • The gun sound effects were different.

  • The red turban's dialogue is completely different.
  • The inventory screen was very basic.
  • The Meketra Sword uses a placeholder name which is "Sword 2."
