General Differences
Prototype | Final |
---|---|
- Almost the entire level's color palette takes on a teal-like color while the final uses something akin to a fleshy red.
- Most of the foreground (e.g. body cells, windows, and neon signs) is blank.
- Hitting any of the pinball bumpers causes a white square to briefly flash.
- Some of the Jim pinball bumpers turn into the yellow "12" bumpers when hit.
- Aside from a handful of objects, this level lacks collision.
- Sally "swims" by holding the Y button instead of the jump button.
- Sally can't shoot with his gun yet, even though his sprite has one.
- Sally's sprites are all test animation frames.
- Sally can move left and right while on a platform. In the final, the player can only move Sally when he's in the air.
- Sally can still move around when hurt. In the final, Sally gets stunned for a second when he touches an enemy or any part of the villi covered walls.
- The "Exploding Aquatic Sheep" found in the final are instead the immobile amoeba-like monsters from the first game.
- Mealworms are present at this stage of development. The player can collect them but can't use them for anything yet.
Background Differences
Prototype | Final |
---|---|
- The prototype has only one background layer which is the vignette, but it doesn't shine on Jim. The white area is actually transparent, however the prototype blends it with the black background making the vignette invisible. The final moves the vignette to the second background layer and expands the gradient.
- The final has a subtle red background. This can be seen during the Game Show.
Level Differences
Prototype | Final |
---|---|
- The layout prior to the Game Show is similar to the final with the exception of object placement. The first "easy"/"hard" routes is incomplete.
Prototype | Final |
---|---|
- The area where the light dims is incomplete and blocked off with a wall.
Prototype | Final |
---|---|
- The stage's foreground tileset (e.g. floor and velvet ropes) has various graphical glitches. The non-glitched villi reacts when Sally the Salamander gets near as in the final.
Prototype | Final (Genesis) | Final (SNES) |
---|---|---|
- The area of the map that contains the Game Show exists but nothing happens when the player is anywhere near the area itself. The Game Show's set resembles that of the final Genesis version. The podium is longer and lacks Jim's name.
Prototype | Final |
---|---|
- Sally drops from a differently positioned tunnel.
Prototype | Final (SNES) | Final (Genesis) |
---|---|---|
- The Simon Sez minigame doesn't seem to be anywhere on the map. Instead, Sally travels through a winding path until he reaches a dead end and presumably the level's exit. This ending path is blank in the final SNES version while there are pinball bumpers in the Genesis version.
- This stage cannot be completed.
Sally Bonus A
Prototype (Normal) | Prototype (Patched) |
---|---|
- In the final version, the Simon Sez minigame is located on the same map as the main Villi People stage but comes after the Game Show. In the prototype, it seems that they originally wanted to have the stage be part of its own map.
- The screen is locked in place. One of the bumpers goes past the screen.
- It seems that the minigame is functional, however once the minigame starts and Sally begins to move, the level ends after a few seconds and sends the player back to "Tangerines".
Sally Bonus B
Prototype (Normal) | Prototype (Patched) |
---|---|
- An unused second minigame that appears to be similar to the previous Simon Sez minigame. However, it appears that it doesn't work yet. The arrangement of the bumpers is different in comparison to the previous map, so it's unclear if this is just another (harder/easier?) version of Simon Sez or if it was meant to be another kind of minigame entirely.
- Due to severe graphical glitching, this stage consists of two background layers with one layer being the semi-transparent vignette that shines on Jim in the final.
- This level has an empty room on the bottom. Reaching there causes more graphical glitches to appear.
- This stage cannot be completed.
