Proto:Final Fantasy VI
This page details one or more prototype versions of Final Fantasy VI.
A prototype of Final Fantasy III on the SNES, which was released by snesmaster. The game has already been fully localized and only has minor differences compared to the retail version, mostly corrections to typos in the script.

General Differences
The black and white splash screen with the title logo and copyright information is not present in this prototype. The game immediately goes to the title sequence, like the Japanese version.

While the same character combinations are used between versions, the values for the ones in the left column were swapped with the ones in the right column and vice-versa for the final version.

The old guy who alludes to Umaro after defending the Esper sobered up for the final version. This is the only script difference that isn't a correction to a typo; evidently, Nintendo of America didn't like the implied alcohol reference. It also wasn't in the original Japanese script, which may have been another motivation behind the change.
The "hic" part of this line (otherwise completely retranslated) was reinstated for Final Fantasy VI Advance, curiously enough.
