See, this is why game preservation is important.
This game is defunct.
Do note the game no longer works at all without modifications. This is most likely due to the game's servers being shut down. As a result, further official developments with the game are unlikely to happen.
Hmmm...
To do:
So much to document and compare. These videos can be used as reference to show what the game was like during its original run. Where possible, use clean screenshots/videos from the server emulator or the leaked server binaries.

Closed Beta Test 1, or CBT1 for short, is the earliest version of Genshin Impact available, being given to a limited amount of beta testers during the week of June 21, 2019. It found its way back onto the Internet though an AnonFiles upload.

This version has an immeasurable amount of differences compared to the public release. It can be played today in a near-perfect form using the leaked server binaries, and a server emulator is also available that provides partial functionality.

CBT1 also contains substantial unused content, including earlier designs of characters that would be implemented in the future.

Gotta love that Sticky Honey Carrot Meat.

General Differences

  • Mondstadt is the only available region.
  • Completely different opening cutscene. The cutscene was finalized in CBT2.
CBT1 Release
  • The framerate is unlocked. CBT2 was the last version to have it unlocked (by turning VSync on), excluding dev builds and iOS, which have options to cap at 100 and 120 fps, respectively.
    • CBT1 in particular has an issue with higher framerates though, as enemies may suddenly teleport upward into the sky when approached by the player, which can lead to cases of them being unkillable, or dying from fall damage. (This occurs on both the server bins and server emulator). For this reason, it may be more desirable to cap the game's framerate to 60 through external means.

Gameplay Differences

  • The party can only be changed through an Adventurer's Guild NPC named Elfie, or at a Statue of the Seven.
  • Wishing is not implemented yet, with characters mostly being obtained through the in-game mail system instead.
  • Domains cannot be teleported to.
  • Swimming faster works similarly to Breath of the Wild, where you get a burst of speed, rather than constantly swimming faster.
  • When treasure chests are unlocked, the camera will cut over to them. This was removed in later versions probably due to it slowing the game's pace down.

Combat

  • Plunge attacks do not exist yet.
  • When aiming with a bow, the reticle will try to magnetize to the enemy it's pointed at, resulting in some rather aggressive auto-aiming that often fights against your own mouse movements.
    • Later versions instead slow the aiming speed when the reticle is pointed at an enemy.
  • Some elements work a little differently.
    • Burning grass with Pyro will create an updraft you can glide with, similar to Breath of the Wild.
    • Anemo and Geo are able to linger like other elements, rather than only triggering instantaneously.
  • Elemental resonance from having multiple characters of the same element in your party doesn't exist yet, with Leader Talents in its place.

Maps

Teyvat

The map of Teyvat had a simpler and less colorful appearance. Since Liyue doesn't exist yet, a lake is in its place.

Unused Map Images

Some of these areas are also referenced in the scene lists, indicating that they were once accessible.

Image Name Notes
GenshinImpact-CBT1-BigWorld WhiteBoxMap.png BigWorld_WhiteBoxMap An early map of Teyvat that kind of resembles TestLevel_LiYue_CX, though it likely predates it since the TestLevel is much more detailed in the Liyue region. A later revision of this map exists in CB1.2 and CB1.3.
  • Serveral spots are an untextured pink color, hinting more at this predating TestLevel_LiYue_CX. The TestLevel does have a few of these, but they are much more sparse and wouldn't be nearly as prominent from a birds-eye view.
  • The Mondstadt region in general is reminiscent of the design of TestLevel_LiYue_CX, featuring very similar modeling and structure styles.
    • Mondstadt has additional islands to the east, among other rocky land forms. Some of these are on CBT1's map of Teyvat, but were removed in the current version of the map.
    • There are more mountains to the north that currently don't exist in any other version of the map.
    • Stormterror's Lair has a large white mountain going through the middle of it. This doesn't exist in TestLevel_LiYue_CX.
  • Dragonspine closely resembles its appearance in TestLevel_LiYue_CX.
  • Inazuma is depicted as a single island with two landmarks circled, possibly meant to be Inazuma City and the Grand Narukami Shrine (given the high elevation).
GenshinImpact-CBT1-ClimbTest.png ClimbTest Appears to depict the ClimbTest1 scene. Unused because the normal Teyvat map image is utilized when exploring this scene.
GenshinImpact-CBT1-Level.png Level A pretty non-descript plane with circles of water crudely drawn on it.
GenshinImpact-CBT1-lixiaoyi map.png lixiaoyi_map Seems to be a rough draft of Mondstadt, severely lacking in detail.
GenshinImpact-CBT1-MengDe small.png MengDe_small MengDe is the Chinese name of Mondstadt. This map image appears to depict a preliminary version of Mondstadt's layout, and is a further development of lixiaoyi_map.

This is used as the map image in MengdeSmall_LevelStreaming scenes.

Designs

These map images appear to be leftover design documents.

Image Name Notes
GenshinImpact-CBT1-Design Daoqi Plane.png Design_Daoqi_Plane Daoqi is the Chinese name of Inazuma. Inazuma may have originally only consisted of Narukami Island, making it significantly smaller than what we ended up with.
GenshinImpact-CBT1-design mengde plane.png design_mengde_plane This image not only depicts Mondstadt, but also sketches of areas beyond it. There are several arrows drawn that demonstrate routes the player could take.
GenshinImpact-CBT1-MapDesign SpawnPoint.png MapDesign_SpawnPoint Shows the starting point of the player, and the route they would take to reach the first Statue of The Seven. Another route is shown above this.
GenshinImpact-CBT1-MMapDesign Origin.png MMapDesign_Origin A concept map of Teyvat, including the locations of currently-unreleased regions. A translated version of this image can be found here

Audio Differences

CBT1 does not have orchestrated music yet, nor any voiceover languages besides Chinese. Additionally, not all cutscenes are fully voiced at this point, with some opting to simply use grunts when a character speaks.

Revisional Differences

CBT1 was updated a few times throughout its course. The final revision, 141841_138541, has a few fixes over the base release, 138541_138541.

  • Broken textmaps were fixed, allowing English text to be displayed when interacting with a Statue of The Seven.
  • The text for the choice to change your party by speaking to Elfie was corrected to not end abruptly.
  • The "Overcharged" elemental reaction was altered to "Overloaded."
  • "Electro Crystal" was renamed to "Electrified Crystal."
  • Multiplayer was enabled by toggling an OpenState.
