Hmmm...
To do:
More images. Also, are the inaccessible Simulation Mode menus accessible?

While most demos of Gran Turismo outside Japan tend to be part of demo disc compilations, one stand-alone demo distributed for American players was made available (SCUS-94257), with in-game files dated no later than March 3, 1998. Judging by the contents of the simulation mode, it appears that the localization process is still in progress, and both European and American versions were localized simultaneously. The Honda NSX Type S, Chevrolet Corvette and a race-modified Subaru Impreza WRX STi Version III are playable in Clubman Stage Route 5. Unlike some other demos, there are no in-race time limit; only a hidden time-bomb that returns you to demo replay if you sit too long exists. In addition, choosing the Impreza won't get you racing car opponents.

As a curiosity, this is the only demo released outside Japan that allows access to simulation mode - all other non-Japanese demos lock out access to Simulation Mode. However, only the dealerships and Car Wash are accessible.

To enable most of other menus in the Simulation Mode, use the following code (WARNING: turn them off before starting a race, otherwise the game will crash):

800532B8 0000
800532CC 0000
800532E0 0000
800532F0 0000
80053708 0000

80053750 0000
800536E0 0000
800536FC 0000
(Codes by: EncounterGTR)

The debug information feature is also still available in this build using this code:

D008B8A8 3A56
30091104 0001
(Codes by: Hacczilla)

It should be noted that Clubman Stage Route 5 is the only course available on the disc; all other courses are completely missing here. The following code loads said track should you want to race in Simulation Mode:

D008B8A8 3A56
300A8E2C 0001

Differences

General

Demo Version Final Version
GT1 US Demo Title.png GT-USTitleScreen.png
  • The title screen has a different credit, and some colors are brighter.
  • Options is disabled, as game settings are changed from the Arcade Mode's menu (see below).
Demo Version Final Version
GT1 US Demo Pause.png GT1 US Final Pause.png
  • The game HUD in races, as well as some text in Simulation Mode, still use the Japanese font. In addition, the option to exit is still called GAME END.
  • The old Chevrolet logo is still used in track billboards and simulation mode's dealership front page, but the new logo is used in Arcade Mode and in their tune shop.
  • Feeder's songs play during the races; they were cut from the US version of the game.

Arcade Mode

Demo Version Final Version
GT1 US Demo Arcade.png GT1 US Final Arcade.png
  • Game options are changed in the arcade menu mode yet again, although that's for the purpose of demo use.
  • On the arcade mode select, the Mitsubishi Mirage Cyborg R is a choice instead of the Mitsubishi FTO GPX '94. Additionally, the Mitsubishi Eclipse is classified as a Class C car instead of Class B.
Demo Version Final Version
GT1 US Demo EG Civic.png GT1 US Final EG Civic.png
  • Power in Arcade Mode car select is still measured by PS, instead of HP. (Note the incomplete Honda localization; see below)

Simulation Mode

  • All car prices still follow the Japanese prices in Line Up screen for new cars, but they are already localized in other screens.
  • Drivetrain is still referred to as Type in Simulation Mode's car menus.
  • Nissan and Aston Martin still uses the European buy/sell car symbol and British spelling "CHANGE COLOUR" in their car menus, as well as "TYRE" in their tuning shops. All dealership front pages except for Dodge and Chevrolet still use European My Car symbol and door for Exit button.
Demo Version Final Version
GT1 US Demo Dodge.png GT1 US Final Dodge.png
  • Dodge has an all new, all different dealership front menu not featured in any other builds.
  • Car Wash plays the Go Race music for some reason, and vice versa (including any menus that use the Go Race music, in this case License and Machine Test). It is possible Go Race was supposed to be viewable in the demo, but Car Wash was (likely mistakenly) viewable instead.
  • The car descriptions of Mazda RX-7 FC GT-X and Mazda RX-7 FC III are in German and all text pertaining to suspension type in the spec sheet are still in Japanese, despite the demo being an US demo.
  • In another proof of localization process, the license test selection screen has an offset cursor position, appearing to use Japanese version's menu coordinates.
  • The license tests' (which cannot be completed, as Clubman Stage Route 5 is the only track in this demo) briefing text is still in Japanese. The flashing red "FAILED" message for failing a license test has been removed, however.
  • Car dimensions in the specification sheet are measured in metric like it appears in the Japanese version, but with imperial units. Additionally, front/rear suspension type is still listed in Japanese.

Pre-Race and Settings Menu

Demo Version Final Version
GT1 Pre-Race Menu US Demo.png GT1 Pre-Race Menu US.png
  • The font size for each respective menu banner in general is smaller in this build.
  • The Car Settings and Test Run options are still placed like it is in the Japanese version; additionally, the arrows indicating menu navigation are still there on the bottom of the screen.
  • The Entry List option has a stray "c" in it.
Demo Version Final Version
GT1 Change Parts US Demo.png GT1 Change Parts US.png
Demo Version Final Version
GT1 Parts Settings US Demo.png GT1 Parts Settings US.png
  • The prompt to switch between Change Parts/Parts Settings using shoulder buttons are still here, albeit in a different font compared to that in the Japanese version. Although this prompt was removed in the international retail versions, the functionality is still there.
  • When changing parts that affect horsepower, the power is still measured in PS, another sign of this demo being taken from a localization build.
  • The Muffler option under Aspiration of Change Parts has quotes in the item name.

Cars

Demo Version Final Version
GT1 US Demo NSX-R LM GT2 Inrace.png GT1 US Final NSX-R LM GT2 Inrace.png
  • Localization of Honda cars seems to barely been started, as Acura is only mentioned in the Special Model header, and the car logos and descriptions are from the other versions of the game. As such, all racing variants of NSX and Integra still has the Honda logos in them. Honda also still uses British spelling for tires in tuning shop.
    • This is noticeable with the NSX-R LM GT2, as you can go to the Special Model screen to see the car, all with Honda logos, as it appears in the European version. If the car is raced and is viewed in starting line up of post-race screen, the car is still referred by its Japanese counterpart: NSX-R GT1 Turbo.
Demo Version Final Version
GT1 US Demo NB Roadster.png GT-unusedcar2.png
  • The Mazda Roadster RS '98 (NB generation) does not fully exist in this demo. Its place is taken by a silver Mazda Eunos Roadster (NA generation) with leather (V-Special TypeII) top, although the car name is already there; it also uses the NB Roadster rims. For this reason, the Mazda Lantis 4door Coupe Type-R 2000 is still used as one of Mazda's Arcade Mode car choices.
  • Although the Chevrolet Corvette 427 Coupe '67 is already in this game, the duplicate version of the car (named c-67n) uses the body of Chevrolet Corvette '96, with the rims from the 427 Coupe.
  • The TVR Griffith 500 and TVR Griffith 4.0 (still referred to as Blackpool B340 in menus and Starting Line-Up/race results) retains their Japanese racing modification in this demo. Attempting to use the latter in races causes the game to crash.
  • The new dealership Honda NSX models, except for Type S Zero, lack color names.

Unlocalized Elements

This demo still has the Japanese opening (with "Moon over the Castle" and Polys Entertainment logo in the beginning) and ending background FMV (with "Second Chance" as the ending theme), both unused as the intro is replaced by a replay demo and the ending credits are inaccessible.

Additionally, as mentioned above, license test briefing text and suspension type text in the specification sheet are still in Japanese, and the game still uses the Japanese version's font in the Simulation Mode.
