A majority of the Alien Grunt's sounds are different in the prototype. The prototype Alien Grunt sounds noticeably less intimidating than the final's.
Alert Sounds
Attack
Dying Sounds
Hornet Sounds
Idle Sounds
The prototype Alien Grunt has two idle sounds that were cut from the final game.
Pain Sounds
Boid
The Boid's only sound in the prototype does not appear in the final game.
Bullsquid
Death Sound 2
The final game adds a "splat!" sound to the start of the Bullsquid's second death sound.
Explosion Sounds
The prototype's explosion sounds are different and more subdued than the final's.
Human Assault
Alert Sound
The Human Assault has an alert sound that cannot be found in the final game's files. It is taken from "Judgement Day: Part 1", the first episode of Season 4 of The A-Team.
Human Grunt
The Human Grunt does not use the speech system that the final's has.
"Cover me!"
A Human Grunt saying "Cover me!", recorded by Kelly Bailey, the Voice Actor for the rest of the Human Grunt's sounds in both the prototype and the final game.
Squad Form Up Call
The prototype has two sounds that feature the squad form up call. One appears to be recorded by Bailey, while the other, called "makesquad", sounds nothing like them. It's possible that "makesquad" was a placeholder sound that was not removed when the current voice actor recorded the Human Grunt's lines.
Radio Chatter Sounds
Some stock police chatter sounds coming from this track. These sounds are used in an early demonstration video.
"Unit requesting radio check, please identify."
Gun Firing Sounds
The Human Grunt's firing sounds are different in the prototype.
Panthereye
The scrapped Panthereye enemy has sounds that do not appear in the final game's files.
Pistol
Firing Sounds
The pistol has three firing sounds, none of which are used in the final game.
Note that the last sound below is used as the prototype's firing sound, while the rest aren't. The final game reuses the two unused slots as sounds for suppressed Pistols.
There is also a sound called "Glock" that does not appear in the final game at all.
Glock.wav, the sound that was completely removed from the final game.
Player
Used Unused Player Sounds
The prototype uses all of the player sounds not used in the final game.
Quake Leftovers
The prototype's files contain the full set of player sounds from the original Quake.
"Hoot" Sounds
The prototype has random sounds bound to number keys in order to test the game's DSP sound system. These sounds are from the Roland Sampling Showcase CD, which was one of the many audio libraries used by the game.
Talk Sound
The sound that plays when a message is printed is different in the prototype.
Security Guard
Firing Sounds
The second firing sound is the same as the final's, but the first one is different.
Dying Sounds
The Security Guard's dying sounds are completely different in this prototype.
Pain Sound
The prototype's pain sound is also reused for a dying sound that was completely removed from the final game.
Submachine Gun
Firing Sounds
The prototype's SMG uses the typical "pap" suppressors used in Hollywood movies. The final game replaces it with much louder gunfire.
Misc. Sounds
Secret Found Sound
The prototype has Quake's "secret found" sound, but it is unused.
